[7.0] "The IWGP Tag Team Championship has done well to showcase New Japan's best heavyweight tag teams and has been used to highlight the best teams rather than being used as a development tool. Many of the titleholders have been the best either in the organization (such as TMDK or Bullet Club's various reigns) or in all of wrestling (such as post-Bullet Club Young Bucks and FTR.)"

[6.0] "There are usually good matches for this titles but really few of them get to be memorable, and is always disputed between the same 4 tag teams (they may change but its always 4 and nothing more)."
Shadow Explosion wrote on 25.05.2022:
[2.0] "These belts don't matter whatsoever, meaning the heavyweight tag division doesn't matter. I can't tell you a single memorable match with these belts and right now they're held by two inadequate goobers by the names of Chase Owens & Bad Luck Fale. What a shameful division that nobody should care about."

I think over the past year or two the title has gotten the love it deserves, and that really helps. The Tekkers feuds with Golden Ace, GoD, Goto-HASHI and Naito/SANADA really picked this title up and put it where it belongs."

The big problem is differently from AJPW and even BJW, NJPW never really produced real tag teams. They have had folks who worked well together (say, Kojima and Tenzan) but never a real successful homegrown tag team. This has been the case since the 80's: Gedo and Jado are merely continuing the tradition of mediocrity. With the NJPW roster so depleted and AEW and WWE locked in a bidding war over talent it's likely this championship will sink even further into irrelevance even after things will return to a semblance of sanity."

A good example of this is FinJuice winning the belts on WK, just to lose on a rematch to GOD... who lost to Tanahashi & Ibushi. You see? Two pointless reigns with zero defenses and not a single purpose. Gedo doesn't know how to book a Tag Team Division and mantain it consistent."

D are a strong and credible team but rarely puts memorable matches. EVIL and SANADA are a good team but are mostly thrown together in this division in the really big shows where they struggle to get singles matches. I don't understand why they don't put Zack Sabre Jr. and Minoru Suzuki/Taichi in this division more often, it's an example of a team that could easily elevate the prestige of these titles."

I do not know how classic new japan treated this but they need to merge the jr and these heavyweight tag team divison to at least create some intrest in the titles."
