Sure, some great wrestlers had this belt but it wasn't a world title. It was the equivalent of what the NXT title is. That's not bad but this isn't the same title that was held by Terry Funk or Shane Douglas. It was a trainee award. CM Punk did nothing for this belt because he wasn't over with the WWE fans yet."

From the moment it went to Big Show, the entire championship was over. Yes, it managed to get held by a few incredibly popular and talented guys, but this was a bastardization of something really special. It's a sin that it even exists."

[4.0] "The problem with this belt is just the amount of false promises and problems with the revived ECW that surrounded this title as a whole. As someone else has previously mentioned, if this wasn't tied to ECW, this belt would certainly be viewed in higher regards than it is. It started off fine enough, with RVD winning the belt at the emotional end of a great PPV. But due to weed, that reign that frankly should have been a long one was cut short, something that I still think was the incorrect thing to do in the grand scheme of things. Especially more so when Van Dam lost the belt to The Big Show, during a period that some would consider his worst. It only got worse due to how Big Show lost it, with one of the most poor choices of booking in WWE history. Granted, Bobby Lashley wasn't the worst choice but it was frankly just absurd not to have either RVD or Punk to win it. Then it got worse with Vince McMahon winning it. At that point, I think the damage done to the belt was almost irreversible, even with the few good reigns from people like Punk or Christian. This isn't even mentioning the reality of ECW on Sci-Fi, where the whole brand was pretty much dead from the get-go. I think the moment the belt redesign, which really my only other criticism of it being a bit bland, just made it no longer feel like a big deal, hell I'd say even less so than the US title. Yes, it had good reigns, and the run wasn't as bad as it could have been, it's a belt that exemplifies the failure of the revived ECW, plain and simple."

There were certainly missteps, like Bobby Lashley defending it on other brands, negating the point of having to watch ECW to see the champion. But there were fun title reigns as well. The belts had a unique look to them as well. I think the biggest issue was nobody saw this title on the level of the other title WWE World Title, and honestly they shouldn't have."

Dreamer and possibly Van Dam despite being the first champ would most likely be the only two on the list to not win this title if it wasnt the ECW brand. Overall I remember several of these reigns as a jump pad for many careers and even the revitalization of others."

The title was basically given to those who were never really big stars or stars they were trying to build, most of the time it wasn't bad, though the matches for the belt lacked in quality and Vince McMahon kind of killed this belt after he won it."

[8.0] "(This review is generally more about the brand itself than the championship) WWECW wasn't as bad as people try to make it out to be. Granted, the first year or so--what with Sandman caning zombies, McMahon trying to make it about himself and his pet project Lashley, etc. --was not very good. But after all that nonsense, coincidentally right around the Benoit incident, the show really picked up. ECW was the prototype for the Full Sail version of NXT. It was a mix of up-and-coming talent being given a chance to shine, mingling with existing talent that needed either a refresher or new direction. It offered a springboard for guys like Tyson Kidd, Evan Bourne, Sheamus, Jack Swagger and CM Punk, They rubbed elbows with wrestlers who experienced career resurgences like Christian, Matt Hardy, Mark Henry, Chavo Guerrero, and John Morrison. Each week offered simple yet concise, logical storylines and solid wrestling. I will maintain until the day I day that if this brand had gone by any other name, it would be looked back on fondly."

Rob Van Dam was stripped of the title after an embarassing scandal and soon Heyman was kicked out of ECW, when he opposed Vince's plans for ECW. ECW has its own image but Vince used it to establish his own superstars who didn't really define ECW. Soon Vince polluted it and it just became another stupid title and eventually lost its prestige."

[3.0] "Definetely far from a World Championship. In comparison, as ECW as a third brand was seen as an equal of Smackdown and Raw, NXT has, nowadays, much more conditions to claim that status. Despite that, some of the matches the brand had (for the belt) were interesting, as well as some of the titleholders, but it's difficult to look back at it as world championship material."
DanTalksRasslin wrote on 10.12.2019:
[6.0] "While it bore little resemblance to the original ECW World Title, the WWE iteration was - after some notably lame storylines like Vince McMahon as champion - eventually utilized relatively well as a belt to experiment with newer faces to the roster (such as Punk, Swagger, Lashley and Morrison) in a championship role, and to give established midcarders like Christian, Matt Hardy and Mark Henry something to work with in refreshing their careers or attempting to move up the card (Tommy Dreamer also got a nice "thank-you" run with the belt, which was actually far longer than his run with the real ECW Title). In certain respects this could be seen as something of a forerunner to the NXT Championship. While further distancing it from its hardcore roots, the final platinum design of the title was also a particularly attractive belt in its own right."

[7.0] "As much as many of the reigns were the opposite of what ECW (original) fans would want to see, thinking specifically of The Big Show, Kane, Mark Henry, Chavo, Vince McMahon and Ezekiel Jackson, it worked fairly well as a third brand World Championship. Tommy Dreamer and Rob Van Dam's reigns were unremarkable but their victories were emotional and memorable. Beyond that, CM Punk, Jack Swagger, Christian and JoMo all made the most of the title. One big criticism is that William Regal should clearly have won this title at one point during his feud with Christian. Additionally, I think it was a mistake skipping Evan Bourne and Shelton Benjamin for title reigns."
