I'll clarify that I am not familiar with any criminal record or accusations against him. I know that he won the court case regarding the allegations. I evaluate him as a wrestler just like Velvetine Dream or Matt Riddle. Joey Ryan has an excellent, well-developed gimmick. A memorable character. Incredible charisma. A flamboyant but charismatic lover of beautiful women. He wasn't ashamed to lose matches to female wrestlers; he showcased the women wrestlers in the best light (in every sense). He didn't humiliate women in his matches. Moreover, the women willingly agreed to work with him. His show with Candice LeRae reveals him as a kind and good-natured, funny old guy. Many of your favorite wrestlers shared the ring with him and enjoyed working with him. And let's not forget, he had a segment with the icon Hulk Hogan. Joey Ryan is a true innovator in-ring comedy. There's something of Joey Ryan in Joe Hendry. And yes, I want to say a huge thank you to Joey Ryan for pouring a water bottle on Scarlett Bordeaux's breasts and beautiful tummy in an intergender match. Note that Joey Ryan played the character of a lecherous, disgusting guy who mocks a fragile, defenseless girl. But Scarlett won that match. So, we were literally shown that good triumphs over evil, just like in many of Joey's matches. I also want to thank him for showing us a close-up of Christina Von Eerie displaying her aesthetic abs. I note that a beautiful stomach/abs are very important for a female wrestler. The "Joey and Candice" show was very helpful; it showed the sweet behind-the-scenes life of indie wrestlers. It's strange to even say that Joey Ryan conducts perverted, women-oppressing matches against the backdrop of praise for Ospreay, who sold his "coolness" by beating his own girl with his disgusting flips. Or the ovations for Sami Callihan, who did the same with Tessa Blanchard. Joey Ryan is a model man and alpha male. He radiates charisma and testosterone. And about his penis move--it's just funny, I don't see the tragedy in it."

Hence you add 2 creepy ideas, and some backstage power (however undeserved) together and you get this fool JOEY RYAN EVERYBODY. The worst gimmick ever, the worst idea ever, easily top 5 pedo and creep ever (and boy does that say alot considering Wrestling seems to be the pedos goto careers). Fucking awful in every way , nothing good to say. Oh and suprise suprise I havent even mentioned we then found out our boy Joey has a tendancy of sending nude pics to minors and forcing himself upon the rest of the girls. (Im sure it is not 18+ exlusive as a pedo does what a pedo does, yet i havent seen a confirmed allegation of any minors when it comes to physical sexual assault). I KNOW ! While I remain that this rating is only based on his character work, and I try not to insult the wrestlers I rate and try my best to separate the art from the person, I can't because he literally lived the gimmick. [0.0] "Before all of the allegations and accusations came out about how horrible of a person that Joey Ryan was/is, I didn't understand why he was so popular and loved. His gimmick was whatever, and his matches were never anything I enjoyed. It was a type of comedy wrestling that didn't sit right with me. I always thought it was weird that anybody would accept being in the ring against him. The only good match he has ever had was himself and Candice LeRae vs The Young Bucks in PWG, and that was all because of the other 3 people in the match pulling him along to something good. Hopefully he never appears anywhere in the wrestling world again."

Anyway, let's go on the bright side first, and let me say I loved the Chase Walker gimmick, of a man that simply opened his heart about being homosexual after feeling opressed and used it to fuel his impulse inside the business to be a great wrestler, having support of the crowd and from his fellows. This could have been a real deal instead of some momentaneum thing inside of a single company. I know explicit genders should not be a gimmick, but with all the Goldusts, Orlando Jordans and Lenny and Lodis being rubbed in our faces, Chase Walker was the first shot at showing that gay/lesbian wrestlers can wrestle seriously inside a ring without all the forced sensuality that the promoters try to promote, considering there is also Fred Rosser and Kanyon on the same case. Sadly, Joey could not stop riding on the momentum of his dick gimmick and kept doing it until the allegations against him...which makes me wonder if having other people (man and women) grabbing his dick was his own idea for character booking purposes...or for his own gratification. To make matters worse, he tried to use pathetic excuses to defend himself, and when it didn't worked and he couldn't even find a job because his stupid ass was already known for his dick gimmick and the allegations, he tried to sue the victims for 10 million for "ruining his career". Once again, the three points are for the Chase Walker gimmick SOLELY!"

[0.0] "Out of all the creeps and nonce's exposed in the Metoo movement, Joey Ryan may hold the candle for the absolute worst of the worst. Not that it makes up for the other people exposed but at least some of them had interesting gimmicks, or were actually good at wrestling, this guy used his penis for offense and nobody thought to do a background check on him? Maybe during the Attitude-Era where anything goes, but this day and age with everyone being hyper sensitive it seems off-putting. As a comedy character it just falls flat, his in ring work is mediocre at best, and as a human he's a total scumbag without many redeemable qualities. The old argument about separating the art from the artist doesn't apply here, as we aren't talking about a Dynamite Kid level of talent. Thus a flat 2.0/10 seems like a befitting rating."

The shtick was funny like 5 times, and 4 of those were times where he did something different with it than the base "suplex with my dick" spot. Joey being outed for sexual misconduct should've probably happened earlier than it did, but it's a net positive for wrestling as a whole. The only shame is that this dude managed to get booked in some great companies because of the buzz around him that was mostly built by more talented wrestlers (Candice LeRae and Danshoku Dino for the most part). Good riddance."

He also seemed to have a good mind for the business end of the wrestling world, being one of the six founders of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and later founding his own boutique promotion, Bar Wrestling. He knew how to effectively market himself through the internet and social media's meme culture, turning what may have been intended as a one-off comedy spot into promotional gold. And while that comedy spot - which I admittedly found amusing initially - may have become far overplayed, if it was still getting good-paying bookings it's hard to fault his continued reliance on it. However, his career was largely derailed by the multitude of allegations made against him in the #SpeakingOut movement and the way in which he responded to them, and it seems unlikely that any reputable promotion will take the PR risk of utilizing him again anytime soon."

[7.0] "Guys, chill out! I have a feeling, that most of the comments below my review are the actual victims of Joey's sexual assaults. I think, he was a great wrestler, because he did his job well. He was going inside the ring to entertain people and that's what he did for the last 20 years. He created his own crazy and ridiculous gimmick, but that's what made him very unique. I laughed a lot at his matches and I recall his work from PWG, Lucha Underground and independent circuit with all the positive feelings. I hope my final score will at least help his rating a little. As a wrestler he put in work and committed well, could have done better if he wasn't just skipping from one "viral" attempt to the next, but this is a remarkable example of a gimmick aging poorly very fast. I have not seen those matches, and it's not like that matters that much considering he's still active now, and his current work is garbage.
