[4.0] "The PPV itself was rather dull and by-the-numbers, with a lot of outdated gimmicks like The Blackjacks and Hillbillies. But it was very historic, with the Montreal Screwjob that everyone tried to emulate for years, but no one could. To me, this gave birth to the Vince McMahon evil character and began the Attitude Era."

"Watching this show as it's the "start" of the attitude era as I was born after all was said and done time to see what I missed out on, very mid show 5/10 overall show then only made memorable due to the screw job"

[7.0] "I honestly think it's a pretty good show. first match is kinda bad but it could be worse. I honestly just skipped the second one, I couldn't be bothered. Team Canada vs Team America is a fun for what it is. I thought Kane vs Mankind was great aside from the lighting. Foley steals the show a lot of the time on shows from this era. The last survivor series match is still good enough despite LoD and Ahmed not being the best (Ahmed no selling D-lo bugged me a lot.) I really enjoyed Stone Cold vs Owen despite the four minute runtime. The infamous screwjob is an insane stain on the main event but I think the match Bret and Shawn put on before it was pretty solid even if it doesn't get the proper ending. Overall not an amazing show by any means but I still enjoyed it."

[7.0] "Surprisingly I really enjoyed this show. Survivor Series 1997 is infamous for the "Montreal Screwjob" and even though the Bret vs HBK match was really good, the finish far overshadows everything that happened in that match. For better or worse this was a historically important moment that changed wrestling as we know it forever. Elsewhere I thought Kane's in ring debut was really strong in the match against Mankind. Austin vs Owen was exactly what it needed to be under the circumstances. The third and fourth Survivor Series matches was decent because of the strong storytelling in my opinion where in the US vs Canada match, the disjointed US team left Vader carrying the load for his team, which lead to a really strong performance. The Shamrock vs Nation match ended with a fun Shamrock vs Rock singles match and even more importantly Faarooq's early elimination left The Rock leading the Nation for most of the match. Unfortunately things got off to a really bad start with the first two Survivor Series matches being rubbish! This was far from a perfect show, but it's a memorable one to say the least!"

The first 2 matches are pretty bad but everything after that is totally watchable if you have any level of nostalgia for this period in wrestling history."

[5.0] "It started out slowly and didn't give me much hope for the rest of the night, but it picked up the speed midway through and ended on a "nice" note. The opener wasn't bad with The Outlaws getting huge heat from the fans. Then DoA made sure that once I again I couldn't enjoy every match on the card, but fortunately the next bout got the things back on track with Team Canada and Bulldog finally waking up the crowd. Kane and Mankind had a nice little match that achieved what it wanted, which is presenting Jacobs as an absolute monster. Then Nation of Domination carried the Elimination Match with their incredible charisma and chemistry between each other with Rocky and D-Lo impressing me the most. Austin vs Owen was alright for what it was, but obviously I would have preferred an actual rematch here instead of a squash. And then the main event was an infamous Montreal Screwjob, but it should also be remembered for a fantastic brawl beforehand. In terms of the in ring work it was also great and Shawn working the crowd was just a thing of beauty. Another decent canadian show."

[5.0] "Mixed bag show, but slightly better than I expected. Opening match was an skippable bout with the Outlaws charisma being the only real highlight (4/10) Truth Comission vs DOA is the weakest bout on the card, Hate the Harris twins and everyone else is not great in the ring either, Don Callis on commentary is the best part (3/10) Team Canada vs Team USA is sloppy in places but had some storytelling going and it pretty fun moments from Can-Am, Bulldog and Vader (6/10) Kane vs Mankind was a good showcase for the big red machine with Foley taking some nasty bumps for him, not a showstealer but soliid (6/10) The Nation elimination tag, was mostly average wrestling but I really loved any time Shamrock got in the ring he was really intense (6/10) Austin/Owen was a short brawl that was a fine breather before the main and a strong comeback for Austin (5/10) The Main Event apart from the historical significance of the Montreal Screwjob I though was shaping up to be quite a good match on its own, heated brawl from beginning up until the screwy ending and good wrestling as always from Bret and HBK, I can understand some people rating it lower for the backstage politics aspect but I though it was damn good (8/10)"

It's definitely got the Attitude Era vibe going on tonight and it creates an ominous feeling knowing what is going to happen in the last act. Most of the show was bad, with mediocrity scattered in. Good for historical purposes but as a PPV, it isn't anything great."

[4.0] "The first 2 matches aren't any good and are by far the worst on the show but after this, we get a pretty solid show overall. LOD, Ahmed Johnson, and Ken Shamrock vs NOD set up a Rock/Shamrock feud which was cool. We obviously have the famous main event which is what this show is mainly known for. Matches from best to worst: Michaels/Hart ***3/4, Mankind/Kane ***1/4, NOD vs LOD Ahmed Johnson & Ken Shamrock ***, Team Canada vs USA **3/4, Austin/Hart **1/4, Opener 1/2*, Truth Commission vs Disciples DUD"

[4.0] "The temptation to give this show full marks just for the main event is strong, but I'll resist. This is of course the famous show where Bret screwed Bret (if we believe it was a shoot), which overshadowed what should have been an even bigger deal, the in-ring debut of Kane. But apart from those two matches, it was very poor, none of the elimination matches were much good, the first two being awful."

[6.0] "Pretty good Survivor Series, just hampered by a few low points. Most notably the screwjob finish to what I think is a good main event but not as good as it could've been, but also that terrible Truth Commission vs DOA match and a forgettable opener. On the other hand, Team Canada vs USA is a very good mix of in ring styles and entertainment with some clunky wrestling here and there (***), NOD vs LOD and others was entertaining too and helped to further get Shamrock over as a legit badass (***), Austin vs Owen is overall just a little mini brawl with some good spots and a great story in Austin coming back and winning the title he never lost (*1/2), and my personal MOTN in Kane vs Mankind, Kane looked like a monster, Mankind makes a great sympathetic babyface which is a perfect opponent for Kane, and there are awesome spots like the chokeslam from the ring to the announce table, the steel steps onto Mankind and the Cactus elbow on the outside. Very good fast paced match and a brilliant debut for Kane (***1/2). Overall, a mixed bag but what I think is more hit than miss."

[6.0] "Show with pretty bad undercard and good and rememberable main event. First two matches are bad. Team Canada (which has only one canadian in it) vs Team USA is okay but still not really good. Kane vs Mankind is enjoyable. Great debut for the Big Red Monster. I didn't liked last tag team match very much. It was too long and had some weird booking decisions. Austin vs Hart is very short. It was first Austin's match after return from an injury but it is still very disappointing. Main event for me is a great match. It is not as good as Michaels vs Hart at Mania XII but it was very different match. You can really feel the hate and aggression fro those two. It is awesome for last Shawn vs Bret match. Overall a mediocre show that is well known only because of Montreal Screwjob."

[7.0] "Not all that bad. I hate DOA but the gang warfare stuff was intriguing enough, Kane/Mankind was good fun and Owen/Austin was decent for what it was. Main event will always get discussed for the obvious reasons but it was shaping up to be a really good match before the obvious incident."
tylerismisfit wrote on 31.12.2017:
[5.0] "The first 2 matches sucked but Team Canada vs Team USA is acceptable, followed up by a decent match between Mankind and Kane, still so far in the card nothing special. Nation of Domination vs L. O. D. w/ Ahmed and Shamrock was much better than the earlier SS tag match. Austin vs Owen is a good match that lasted about 4 minutes which is kinda disappointing :( but of course you cannot watch this PPV without watching the highly controversial Montreal Screwjob match which is actually a really good match. all in all its a pretty average show but not THAT bad."
jackleone wrote on 01.08.2016:
[4.0] "Disappointing event, the only good matches are Kane vs Mankind and Owen Hart vs Steve Austin, both delivered some fine Wrestling. Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart was a mess from the beginning, if it wasn't for the screwjob it wouldn't be remembered, just a brawl between wrestlers who don't like each others. The Survivor Series matches weren't good. Not really an event to remember except for the ending."
DanTalksRasslin wrote on 17.03.2016:
[4.0] "The infamous and still hotly-debated "Montreal Screwjob" made this certainly one of the most historically-significant events of the late 1990s, and thus the main event is required viewing for that reason alone. The rest of the card was very hit-and-miss: Kane and Mankind had a good match that helped establish Kane's character in its early going, and the "Team Canada vs. Team USA" and NOD vs. Shamrock, Ahmed & LOD elimination matches were rather entertaining. Austin-Owen was kept very short as Austin was still coming off his major injury, and the rest was simply filler. A very significant and controversial show, but when it comes down to it not necessarily a very good one."

[8.0] "The whole Montreal Screwjob casts a different light on this PPV whereas anyone who watches it looks for clues throughout the show for tip-offs to prove whether it was a work or not. If pro wrestling wasn’t looked at in such a trashy light by the main stream media I guarantee there would be History Channel conspiracy shows about this PPV. Conspiracy theories aside, the ACTUAL wrestling portion of the show is quite good with a lot of characters allowed to morph themselves into whatever character they are most comfortable with as the characters and storylines would propel pushes into the oncoming Attitude Era."

[6.0] "Bret/HBK and Mankind/Kane are worth the show but everything else is pretty dud worthy. The Survivor Series Elimination matches suck except for the Team Canada/Team USA match but that served mostly as a Goldust heel turn completion. Austin/Owen was short due to Austin just returning from a broken freakin' neck!"
