[8.0] "Should have been a bigger deal but unfortunately spent most of his career in WCW, where upward mobility was basically impossible. Had the look, the size, the skill; by all accounts was a good dude that was easy to work with. Even Eric Bischoff admits that he fumbled Alex Wright, and Eric Bischoff rarely admits he's wrong about anything."

[8.0] "Alex had all of the right stuff, no pun intended, going for him in terms of what you'd look for in a star. He had the looks, he had the physique, he had the abnormally long limbs, he could speak English, and he could work versatile to whoever the opponent was. I remember him doing all of the high flying, acrobatic moves, but also being able to wrestle technically/mechanically sound in the same vein. He also was different at a time both as berlyn and das wunderkind in a time where being different was cool. The thing with him though, no fault of his own was that he was signed to a personal services contract with Ted Turner with the idea that pushing him would help WCW expand in to Germany where he had connections yet he was never really pushed and when they did go to Germany he never wrestled anyone of note. However he was constantly featured on both nitro and thunder, as well as the syndicated shows so it wasn't all bad."

[8.0] "6'5", and technically sound. Could club it out with guys like Fit Finley, was super over with his dancing gimmick in WCW. The issue, was that no one really gave him a shot, and he wasn't the best talker in the world. He had a bit of a lisp sometimes, and if people are willing to hold that type of thing against Kurt Angle, Das Wunderkind had NO chance. I've been watching a lot of old WCW lately, and Alex never did horribly in the ring, no matter the dance partner. Truly an underrated and underappreciated talent that would kill on today's indy scene."

He was great in 1995 as the high flying lightweight but then the luchadores came in and they were outdoing him on the high flying stuff so he kinda got lost in the shuffle. He got a TV title and CW title run out of his tenure so it wasn't so bad. Obviously you couldn't expect to go far in WCW when the nWo was the centerpiece day to day."

[8.0] "If you asked 20 year old me to rate Alex Wright, I'd cringe in horror at the Euro clubber thrusting his genitals at me - no matter how sexy he was, I know that type and they all have herpes! I kid I kid, but only a little bit. If you ask current geezer status me, I'd say "he's still a terrible dancer, but those matches are pretty good! " For having a ridiculous frame (extra long legs, extra long arms) he was somehow rather graceful and able to mesh well with most foes. Found his niche as the heavyweight cruiserweight and 97 was a good year for the guy. The tag team with Disco Inferno was the best thing to ever happen to 'Inferno, I dig that duo. The Berlyn character wasn't my thing and I can't hardly watch anything WCW at that point so, points docked there. (ok so, he reteamed with Disco during the Russo era as "The Boogie Knights" and I like that name but I admit - I never saw those matches/that era of the team). Otherwise - damn he was solid!"

[7.0] "Was a alright wrestler for his time and surprisingly agile and technically skilled on the mat for his rather tall frame, capable of holding his own with some of the top cruiserweights around. Wright wasn't really much of a talker through due to the language barrier and his rather infamous gimmick didn't do him any favours. I think the main issue was that he was basically always showcased as a rookie and never got that big breakaway match that showed he could go with the heavyweights, always being shown as being incapable of doing so unless he was a heel who had outside interference. He'll always be a "What If? " because he seemingly had a ton of potential and the youth to keep improving but we'll never know where he could have went, especially considering he retired very young, arguably before his wrestling prime (usually mid 30's). He's done well for himself as a trainer and promoter through, so fair play to him."

Around 1995-96 he was one of the standouts of the technically brilliant branch of the Nitro roster. Among people like Eddie Guerrero, Steven Regal, Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit, and Jushin Thunder Liger, this was quite an accomplishment. He frequently put on matches on par or even succeeding his peers. He had absolutely no ceiling and would be brought up in some lofty debates today were he booked better."

He suffered early on with a gimmick that killed his credibility with most of the fans, and when he finally got a gimmick that would have made him a star, WCW decided to go with his bigger but far less talented bodyguard as the guy they'd give the mega push to."

[5.0] "Pretty overrated in his rankings here. Wright was solid in the ring and his Dancing Fools/Boogie Knights gimmick with Disco Inferno was entertaining but he never really stood out. When the Berlyn gimmick was first introduced it seemed like it might have potential ?  certainly it had a look and feel like nothing else ?  but it ended up going nowhere fast."
Devitciiu wrote on 17.04.2017:
[6.0] "Alex Wright wasn't great. He could work a match, and was an annoying heel, but his gimmick was pretty easy to draw heat and never had any significant moments. Disco did a much better job of getting over. Berlyn on the other hand was awesome. He seemed like a great heel that was going to really get under people's skins, but WCW seemed to put a lot of effort building it up and then gave up on it almost immediately. It didn't help that guest commentator's like Larry Z. kept pointing out that Berlyn was just Alex Wright. Still, the look the entrance, the interpreter and the bodyguard, Berlyn could have been a solid midcard heel."

[6.0] "He was in good shape and a good worker but almost seemed lanky, not a good trait to have and he really did seem plain. WCW at some point seemed really big on him but it became apparent after a while that the guy belonged in the midcard. Him and Disco as the Dancing Fools was one of my favorite comedy teams of all time. The dance was somewhat over for a small amount of time too Once he got to that Berlin nonsense, it really seemed like he fell off. That being said, he was filled his role as a decent midcarder who could wrestler and do decent gimmick work."

" Solid midcard talent for WCW with a very smooth in-ring style, who helped establish the company's "global" image. Had success and title runs in several divisions (cruiserweight, TV, tag), but remains an underrated talent as his booking after his initial push - including the ill-advised shift to the Berlyn gimmick - left much to be desired."

His reinvention as Berlyn was surprising and awesome, even though it failed (but not through any fault of Alex Wright's. )"

He was athletic and had the perfect look also (and not to mention dance move). Looking back my big regret is that he never got the big push that he deserved but was still very successful holding titles in wcw such as the cruiserweight, tag team, and tv titles. Alex Wright is a second generation wrestler, being trained in Germany by his father Steve Wright."
