An amazing wrestler who not only has spectacular mic skills that puts stone cold and the rock to shame, but is an amazing seller, extremely agile and quick, Rey got nothing on this guy. His match with taker at WrestleMania 9? The greatest Wrestlemania ever? Taker vs Shawn at mania 25 and 26 wishes it was as good as it was. Gotta add that his in ring presence and aura is greater than what Gunther and Roman reigns could ever dream of having. His in ring attire? Give those guys a raise. Not only is it genius but it might be better than any attires Mysterio or Michaels ever worn."

EDIT: Look, I'm willing to correct myself when i am wrong. There's this weird lil moment in his WCW career as "El Gigante" that is ... uhm. Fine? He's out there doing some actual things. He's doing them almost ok. Its crazy how immediately he devolved though! One single point for that brief moment of something that almost resembled potential.... sorta. relatively."

He sucks as a wrestler, his character was trash, although he was the tallest ever, he lacked promos, and he couldn't even back it up in the ring, stressball has to be trolling."

His technical prowess, promo skills, and ring presence, all of which are unmatched by any other big men before or after him. He can hang with the best of the best in the world, while also looking strong. I especially appreciate his awesome bomb finisher and his spear. Truly a delight to have witnessed this great competitor in ring before he retired. Long live Gonzalez!"

[7.0] "As El Gigante in WCW, he was never a technical wrestler, but he was actually very agile for his size and condition and he did have a move set that was not just strikes, chokes and chokeslams (including suplexes, running slams, body slams, etc.). I think he had good matches with Cactus Jack & Rick Flair, did well with jobbers and entertaining tag team matches with Sting, PN News, etc. though he was very green and didn't have much charisma. He did develop character, charisma and presence as Giant Gonzalez in the WWF and El Gigante in NJPW, but unfortunately, his health started taking a toll at that point and was not able to retain his original agility and improve his skills and the ringwork and charisma never overlapped. Objectively a 3 or 4 but doubling the points for the potential, for his inspirational (and sad) story and for being unfairly maligned/over-hated by the wrestling circlejerk for "tarnishing the Undertaker's legacy" or some other bullshit."

Immobile and unimpressive in the ring. I'm unsure if he spoke English or not, I don't recall him ever cutting a promo so I can't speak for that. All he had in his favour as a wrestler was his size. But any credibility he could have hoped for from his look was undone by his most famous attire. Unfortunately Gonzalez is 0 stars out of 5."

A prime case of booking a spectacle over competent in ring work."

So in a way, he succeeded in what he was brought in for; being a jaw-dropping spectacle. However, aside from that, Gonzalez pretty much embodied every "bad tall wrestler" stereotype. He was slow and boring in the ring, and could barely walk. Still though, RIP big man."

[2.0] "I feel really bad for Jorge because he was a giant without much atheticism; since the very start it feels like every part of his life was him being picked out for his size then getting injured shortly after before being dropped. He was simply too tall and lanky to really be effective at anything without something coming off the hinges. Oh, and he ALSO had terrible diabetes to boot alongside all of that which made him even more inconsistent. He was more or less purely there as a attraction more than anything else, but once the allure of that wore off his wrestling just wasn't anything good at all. The guy clearly at least was trying but his body never seemed to follow whatever he was trying to do from the very limited moveset that he had. Watching him at the very end of his career where he couldn't even do anything bar lean off the ropes and have someone hit him is probably top 5 in the saddest things I've seen in a wrestling ring. Apparently he was a pretty nice guy (to his detriment in places) and the fact that he was committed enough to go to Japan to improve his wrestling skills is proof enough that he was definitely passionate about the business. He just sucked at it."

[2.0] "A notoriously bad giant in wrestling history, though I honestly don't think he's quite as bad as his reputation. He's definitely not good, mind you, but I think the profile of his matches has amplified his reputation. In general, he was just an incredibly tall dude and that was about it. Towering but fragile, due to his frame, he had an alright look as a monster but was undercut by how lanky he is, and that awful monkey muscle suit the WWF put him in, and his sheer size gave him a decent crowd reaction despite not really projecting a ton of charisma or menace. His real weakness, though, was his in-ring work - a weak, clumsy, and uninspiring athlete much like the later Great Khali, but with less of the overt menace. It's understandable why both WWF and WCW tried to make him work, he was such a freak attraction, but he just didn't have anything other than the attraction-level size."

Hot take but I actually think he had a good look and it must have been quite a site to see a person that tall come to the ring I also found his body suit he wore in the Fed kinda funny. I think his greatest accomplishment was chasing around Todd Pettengill on a segment of WWF Mania which makes me laugh every time. Sadly even with all of that so bad it's good stuff can't let me give him even a single point I originally gave him a 2/10 but if I can't give Mr Gonzalez a 0 can I really give anyone a 0? He also had the worst Undertaker streak match in an era of really bad Undertaker matches. I feel really bad for the guy as I've heard he was quite a nice guy but being a nice guy doesn't make me give you a good rating no more than being a piece of shit means you're going to get a bad rating. Ultimately I'm going to rate you on your career."

Yes he was a poor worker and couldn't barely move, but his bizarre look and presence was enough to give amazing crowds reactions in many arenas. It was always fascinating for me to watch him face-to-face with the Undertaker in the ring. He also was a decent guy outside the ring and had a lot of health issues, he doesn't deserve all the hate he gets."

Then couple the diabetes with the fact that he had no proper wrestling training, he didn't work how to work, he didn't know when to register what was happening to him in the ring, or how to sell whatever moves he took properly for a guy his size. All he really had going for him positively was that he was legitimately THE largest athlete in the world at the time, an attraction that people would flock to see, and even though he was stiff...you could still get the giant casting out of him in feuds because he was really was one. He was also one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet in your life too from what i've heard about him/saw of him."

He was supposed to be an intimidating giant, but he became one only after a few years in WWF. After becoming Giant Gonzalez, Jorge transformed a little and became more impressive and frightening, especially against the background of his manager, who was 50 centimeters shorter. He still didn't sell well and didn't look good in his matches, but he wasn't so faceless anymore. 3 points for his WWF & USWA run."

It's clear that WCW was trying to create their own Andre with this guy, but they failed miserably. Jorge was very hard to watch perform. His size (although fascinating) severely limited his abilities and his selling looked stupidly goofy. He may have looked intimidating, but he probably would've been better off as another Giant Silva from the Oddities. I give him a point because of his size and the fact that he actually provided one or two funny moments when he was with WWF, but they would have been better off not signing him in the first place. Horrendous on all sides."

Remember those were still the days when promoters were desperately looking back at the 70's for inspiration and everybody remembered how much money André the Giant had drawn, so a guy 5-6" taller than André was bound to be huge. Too bad El Gigante lacked everything André had, namely charisma, a keen mind for the business and athleticism, at least until his body was holding up. I don't blame El Gigante himself: by all accounts he was a very nice young man looking for a way to help his family in Argentina and it seems most wrestlers genuinely liked him. But those who decided to put him in the ring in front of the cameras... that's another matter completely."

Unfortunately, it became quickly apparent that that height was about all he had to offer in the ring, as he lacked the skill and coordination to put on anything resembling a decent match, and there was little even ring generals like the Undertaker and Randy Savage could do with him. Although not his fault, his case wasn't helped in that, for whatever reason, companies had a tendency to dress him in laughable ring attire (the muscle-and-fur bodysuit in WWF; the foil hat in WCW)."
