Never cut a particularly interesting promo and I can't really think of a match he ever had that was compelling. There are other people that have sort of the same safe style but are more interesting in some form to the point where it's not a problem. It always just felt like he was being put in weird storylines too."

Sadly, he may have even had a better career had he not had to compete with the giant shadow of Mr. Perfect looming over him at all times. Never really had a chance to truly carve out his own identity, but he was a strong hand in the ring and wasn't done any favors by creative, having theme music that was similar to his dad only furthered the comparisons which didn't help, but regardless if he didn't work out, his dad would have been proud of him for walking in his footsteps."

But man, the only thing Axel took from his father is his surname. Aside from that, whatever genes his grandfather and father had for wrestling didn't get passed onto him, because he is just absolutely generic and utterly boring in-ring. You can look past the NXT stuff, because that show sucked and the only people to get over were Barrett and Danielson, the others either failed and were released or had to really work for a spot on the main roster. Putting him with Heyman seemed like a great idea, but there's a big problem... Axel just isn't good in-ring. Not saying he isn't safe or anything, but just his overall style was so vanilla. Never impressed, was given an opportunity to do something more but just couldn't reach the level that was asked of him. I did kind of enjoy the shtick he did with Bo Dallas, but that didn't last too long and got stale pretty quick. Overall, Axel isn't a great wrestler, has no charisma, is just the son and grandson of two famous, great wrestlers."

His pairing with David Otunga as the New Nexus was bad, his pairing with Ryback was bad. The only time he was involved in something entertaining was with the B-Team and that was mostly Miz' and Bo's work."

The table was set against him when they kept trying to get him over by mentioning Mr Perfect Curt Hennig so he never was able to get out of the shadow. Still a lot more talent than David Sammartino and Eric Watts."

Curtis was particularly good at comedic alliances with Ryback, Damien Sandow and Bo Dallas, but was quite boring as a solo performer. He has a good base, he is a decent wrestler of a technical style who did his job well, although he never claimed higher roles in the company."

Later it was only worse - being the weaker element of the tag team division: RybAxel, Meta Powers, Social Outcasts, Miztourage, B-Team. Even winning the tag team championship did not allow him to stay on top, which is a pity. Axel is a decent competitor with skills. Gimnick of someone who wants to come out of his father's shadow was also good and he had potential."

He's boring in the ring despite being a good safe worker, but I can't really say much beyond that. He's been in a few mediocre tag teams and seems to be going nowhere."

I know he won some people over with the Hogan rip off gimmick a few years ago, but I've seen the Hogan rip off gimmick before & I had no desire to see Axel's turn with it. He failed with Heyman & failed with McGillicutty. He was one of the least memorable members of the Nexus & he's drowning Bo (who at least has a little bit of charisma) in the B-Team. The Intercontinental Championship was very sad when Axel actually was champion."

Some of it's not his fault and some of it is. If I say much more this comment will go on forever so I'll just end with this. Highlight of his career: Winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship at Payback 2013. Lowlight of his career: His god-awful 'Genesis of McGillicutty' NXT promo, which many would say was the catalyst of his downfall. The B-Team tag team he's currently in with Bo Dallas gave him some ok moments, but at this point, the damage has already been done as far as his career is concerned."

Debuting in 2010 under the somewhat unfortunate moniker "Michael McGillicutty" in the second season of its original game show format, Axel has a reign each with the IC and Tag Title under his belt, but through various name changes, partnerships and stable memberships, he still hasn't risen above the level of second-string tag wrestler, stable warm body or flunky to other upper-midcarders, and doesn't show much sign of moving out of his current position in WWE."

His run with paul heyman wasn't interesting at all. Now he is almost a jobber who is an enforcer for the miz. Wow, at least he can get more tv time. And even surprising, he used to be an ic champ. Not totally bad at all."

[4.0] "This is going to sound incredibly harsh, and I don't mean it that way. But I'd rather watch a match from almost any other WWE wrestler than Curtis Axel. That's not because he's a bad wrestler -- in fact, he's firmly above average, with good strength and especially impressive mat skills. His problem, though, is that he's utterly lacking in the "it factor" which allows wrestlers to connect with their audience. He has very little charisma, his personality alternately comes off as forced and bland, and even when he was pushed it was difficult to take him seriously. Axel simply doesn't know how to perform -- and that's a death sentence in the modern WWE. He has fairly decent comedic timing, and AxelMania was the best gimmick he ever had, but doesn't that say something on its own? Midcard comedy seems to be this man's ceiling, something which stings even more considering the legendary status of his family."

But for all the athletic skills he inherited from his father and grandfather, he's missing the critical ability to connect that work with the audience. Part of that is the fact that he doesn't have a character that he can sink his teeth into (Except for the Hogan spoof but that sadly had to end). It's really a shame, because he has all the tools."

They're both reasonably-proficient technical hands, but neither of them can convincingly carry a gimmick and neither of them are particularly good promos. There's just nothing interesting about Axel; it's not that he's awful, but he utterly fails to do what his father did best -- command attention. Honestly, he's shown the most life in a comedy role, and there may be something to that idea. He certainly hasn't wowed the audience as a serious competitor."

His mic skills are not as gifted as the likes of The Rock or Shawn Michaels, in fact there is a shyness to him. But like a number of wrestlers who are/were known for their skill or intimidation, more so than their mic work, he needed a mouth-piece, and found it, fortunately, in the form of his manager, Paul Heyman. Athletically, Hennig is very impressive. Capable of performing perfect dropkicks quickly. He borrows a bit from his Father's arsenal of moves. But he is far from a carbon copy. If his mic skills and character improve, then everybody wins. Until then, his refined wrestling skill gives him an 8 from me."

Every time I watch his work in the ring, his skills are so superb and so perfect (no pun intended)! I think he could really really captivate the audience with his in-ring performance if WWE utilized him more and gave him a push and they gave him some good chances to shine out there in that squared circle! I know people give McGillicutty a lot of crap about his promo skills, but I think people who give him crap about his promos are easily the ones that have never watched his FCW promos before he got on NXT season 2 as well a few of his promos he cut on Tyson Kidd last year through his own YouTube channel and realized that those promos are far more better than any promo material WWE gives him to do!"
