"[8/10] A prime example of a guy whom truly benefitted from his involvement with AEW. His early WWE work was truly physically impressive, and Vince was wrong to stick him with the stupid face mask gimmick when he had a veritable hit on his hands. It's great to still see Moxley rocking the hardcore style these days. His promo talents really took a plane trip to Myanmar during the dregs of the Death Riders' mediocre heel run last year, but he seems to be picking back up on mic a little."

[10.0] "I have a very special connection with Jon Moxley. In fact, without him, I would never have started watching wrestling again. I started watching wrestling in 2009 and continued until 2011, then I stopped. In 2015, I stumbled upon a WWE show by chance, so I started watching the weekly shows every week and ended up becoming a fan of Dean Ambrose at the time. So I only watched WWE, but in 2018 I discovered other federations that I started to enjoy more than WWE, and in 2019 Ambrose left WWE to do a few matches with NJPW, then signed with AEW, and I love him even more because every week I see a Moxley who is even more interesting than before because he is no longer restricted by WWE guidelines. Moxley is good on the mic, he's charismatic, he's good in the ring because of his versatility, and above all, he loves what he does, so he doesn't mind putting other people over, and that's wonderful. Moxley is one of my top five favorite wrestlers of all time."

[10.0] "I appreciate Jon Moxley more & more every time I see him perform. He is an incredible talent in recent history. One of the greatest resumes of all time. From his color commentary, to his absolutely tremendous & iconic post-show Continental Classic promos, & the story of him driving 13 hours during the freezing winter in Omaha, Nebraska to defend his World Title against Adam Copeland on Dynamite, I love Jon Moxley equally as a performer & a person. He is easily one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. I get subtly emotional watching Jon perform at his absolute best every week, because as he is getting older, we never know when he will begin to slow down. In wrestling as a whole, Jon is the glue that is holding everything together. Years from now I know for sure that I will recognize Jon Moxley as a wrestling legend & a good-hearted human being that truly cares about elevating wrestling companies, other performers, & the credibility & entertainment of pro-wrestling."

The amount of physical punishment he have gone through over the years putting out banger matches and great storytelling he did deserves respect. He have reached that legend status whether you like it or not"

[10.0] "There isn't a more underrated wrestler out there than Jon Moxley. You'll hear people criticize him for his hardcore style or his love of violence and blood, but there's layers to this man. Mox is one of the most unique workers out there. He's got a combination of technical wrestling with a brawling style, everything he does is meant to hurt, to stretch a limb and weaken an opponent. He is effective as both a heel and a babyface and can captivate you with his direct, unfiltered promo style. When Mox speaks, it sounds like he's talking only to you and he has that quiet intensity like Jake Roberts before him. His recent character work has been outstanding and he has shown that when you need someone to step up, you can call on Mox. Not everyone will get it, but for those of us who like our wrestling more chaotic, more unpredictable and violent, Mox is our guy."
Rassle Fan wrote on 28.12.2025:
[4.0] "He's a good con artist, that's for sure. While he's capable of working decent matches, he's only at his best when he's getting stabbed with a fork. He's also sold AEW a bill of goods about how great he is. His booking is unparalleled. The miniscule amount of time he's lost in singles matches and even tag matches is ridiculous. I hear a lot about how he doesn't wield any political power backstage but I think that's bullshit. I did enjoy his work in AEW during the first year but everything after 2020 has been one self indulgent ego stroking match after another."

[7.0] "This rating for me is mainly based on his current work (with a bit of appreciation for the Ambrose stuff). He's got a lot of fans and I like the idea of the character he played but how he portrays that character just doesn't do it for me. The frequency with which he bleeds, the meandering rambly, indirect promos, the stuff with the fork. A lot of it just doesn't do it for me. The ridiculous body language is a hit or miss but put simply, the idea of this current Mox character is better than what I see on tv. The thing that I really don't get right now though, is the way they've done this redemption arc. The KOR stuff was pretty good, and him getting to the semis by the skin of his teeth was fine (could've even been potentially great), but it would've made more sense for him to lose after giving it his all in the C2 semis or final, which would have stretched out the redemption arc much further or created justification for the DR's to turn on him (more on that later). A redemption that's more drawn out was needed to make up for everything he's done since wrestledream 2024, but instead he just went into the C2 and played underdog (using KOR as a launch pad), cut some rambling rah rah promos, beat out guys that needed this more (and could've setup some interesting stuff) and literally went babyface while still leading a group of straight up heels. Deeply unsatisfying character arc to follow so far and it almost comes off like all this was done to undo the unintentional damage of the early DR stuff, making for a truly insincere redemption arc. At least that's how I've processed it. Why'd they even tease them jumping him. And even if they do eventually, they could've arrived there without hindering Fletcher/Takeshitas C2 outcomes smh."

[10.0] "One of the unsung heroes of wrestling, imo. Mox is always the guy that does the dirty work. I was admittedly very cold on him when the DR started but what he's done for AEW since around April is INCREDIBLE. The way he got built up, only to put over Hangman, Joe, KOR, Roddy and countless others cannot be talked about enough. Not to mention how much he's done for Claudio, Marina, etc. And that's just this year. Factor in all the great stuff he did with The Shield and his previous years in AEW and he's one of the very best of the last decade."

With a timeless style and a work ethic that is second to none, Moxley has become a World Champion in WWE, AEW and even New Japan Pro Wrestling. Time after time, Mox has been trusted to step up to the plate and hit a home run - and he rarely fails to do just that. Add in fantastic storytelling both verbally and physically, and it's no secret why he's been on top for so long. It's not uncommon for Moxley to end up having one of the best matches on the show, week after week, PPV after PPV."

[9.0] "The flexibility and utility of Jon Moxely as a wrestler is somehow grossly understated. People struggle to predict him and worse than that assume he has only one gear and then decide its "bad psychology" when he changes things up or experiments in matches. Mox can go anywhere, do just about any kind of style and always pull off a believable and easy to invest match with zero context before hand. I try to be at least a little impartial and I would not call him an all time favorite so that's the only real reason he's not a 10 out of 10 but when you need someone to make a big match or ppv important, Mox is always right there to suddenly make it all feel even better than it did."

[10.0] "Regardless of opinion, Jon Moxley has established himself as one of the most important American wrestling main eventers of the century. His reputation remains divisive: to mainstream audiences, he is either a WWE burnout or a key contributor to the evolving landscape of American wrestling; among more discerning fans, reactions range from "one of the greatest ever" to "cheap Onita cosplay." This piece aims to outline his strengths and weaknesses, offering a macro perspective on his career that may persuade sceptics. This overview relies on memory and prior documentation rather than exhaustive research. I revisited several WWE matches, but the focus is on six years of close real-time coverage, supplemented by earlier fandom from the 2010s indie scene. Transparency about gaps or blind spots will be maintained throughout. Moxley debuted on June 20, 2004, marking 21 years as an active competitor, 14 of them in nationally televised promotions. His career divides into two distinct peaks. The first, roughly 2009-2014, began with his CZW/indie breakout and ended with The Shield's dissolution. His WWE post-Shield work, though occasionally strong, was limited by the company's creative priorities. The second peak began after leaving WWE in 2019. Moxley's AEW and New Japan runs, highlighted by his New Japan debut against Juice Robinson and his 2022 Wrestler of the Year campaign, demonstrate a sustained level of excellence. Even in 2023-2024, amid divisive Death Riders storylines, performances like his Texas Death Match against Hangman Page reaffirm his ongoing peak. Conservatively, this represents at least a decade of top-level work. Moxley's in-ring persona is aggressive, scrappy, and dirty, described aptly as "poor kid street fighting." His striking has improved over time, particularly after leaving WWE, and is often backed by genuine intent and character-driven heat. While he may not match the technical heights of contemporaries like Danielson, his full skill set; charisma, storytelling, and psychological presence, more than compensates. Moxley's charisma is a defining asset, conveying danger and chaos while sustaining audience investment. His performances, from indie bloodfests to AEW main events, consistently demonstrate star power and refined selling, from his 2016 WWE World Title loss to AJ Styles to the climactic finish of All In Texas. Moxley has consistently adapted to diverse roles: indie brawler, Shield team player, AEW ace, and Death Riders heel. His ability to shift between babyface, situational heel, and outright villain, even within the same feud, showcases unmatched versatility. He excels in gimmick matches, hardcore spots, comedy, and tag settings, while thoughtfully employing blood as a narrative tool rather than a crutch. This adaptability stems from his willingness to experiment and challenge conventional wrestling forms. Moxley's work is highly dependent on his interest and the quality of material. Poor creative contexts, such as ill-conceived WWE comedy angles, diminish his output. He struggles with unideal opponents or overly formulaic booking, as seen in mismatched title reigns or the 2024 Tokyo Dome three-way. Nevertheless, these are minor blemishes against a career defined by innovation, charisma, and peak-level performance. Moxley has long been a premier talker. Early indie promos like "Sick Guy" established the street-fighter persona that would define him. In WWE, he anchored The Shield's personality as its primary voice. Post-WWE, AEW promos against Eddie Kingston, CM Punk, and Hangman Page have been visceral, versatile, and authentic, consistently conveying menace, vulnerability, and intensity. Moxley is not in contention for the absolute top tier of the Greatest Wrestler Ever list; he lacks the miraculous polish of Danielson, Funk's longevity, Flair's repertoire, or Aja Kong's transcendence. However, his decade-plus of excellence, peak-level consistency, and career accessibility (virtually all matches are available on tape) make a compelling case. He surpasses contemporaries like Rollins, Reigns, and arguably Eddie Kingston in peak quality, while comparing favourably to historical figures such as Shawn Michaels, Foley, Volk Han, and others in versatility and longevity. Jon Moxley is indisputably one of the greatest pro wrestlers of all time. His versatile style, charisma, in-ring storytelling, and ongoing top-tier work mark him as the foremost American main eventer of the last decade. From indie bloodfests to AEW main events, he remains a defining force in modern wrestling. His career continues to unfold, but the evidence suggests we are witnessing an all-timer carve out his legacy in real time."

He makes every match worth watching by his very force of nature, often scarring himself physically and mentally to benefit AEW as a whole. It also helps his matches are often very engrossing. The past year or so has not been his best work to say the least, but the way he started his reign and ended it were both fantastic, so it all evens itself out in the end."

He's the leading heel in AEW, but in a lot of ways "Jonathon Good" has been the glue that has really been holding AEW together. After MVP made comments about not wanting Hurt Syndicate drop the belts to Jet Speed Mox got in a feud with Jet Speed to help them start getting over real well with the crown. Daniel Garcia has seemed lost for such a long time, Mox has recently started working with him, getting him into the Deathriders. Jonathon Good cares about wrestling, he cares about AEW, He cares about the crop of wrestlers coming up."

Since "returning to wrestling" (as Punk put it), he's been putting on a bunch of deathmatch shite. Why is he bleeding in a good portion of his matches? Are you trying to spread hep c? His gimmick is an Onita rip-off. His promos in WWE were whacky and *could be* funny. Before that, he was a solid promo too. Since going to AEW, he's gone downhill quickly here too. Boring promos that would make his 2019 run look like a Ric Flair territory stint. This is all well and good if he's an undercard act, but no, he's been the face of the second biggest promotion in America. What the fuck? ! Why is he a top champion in 2025? ! For those wanting a short explanation for why I rated him so low; he's the shits."

[9.0] "Jon Moxley is, in my head, the ace of AEW. The guy can be slotted almost anywhere and make it work. Whilst the mid point of the Death Riders storyline really struggled under the weight of some average to bad title defenses, Mox vs Swerve and Mox vs Copeland coming to mind, it really started gaining steam again after Double or Nothing 2025. When you look at the full span of his career, Mox is 100% the best member of the Shield, and is a pretty complete wrestler. His mix of deathmatch shenanigans and occasional technical grappling is a good base, but what actually makes me love Moxley's matches is his how purely he embodies his character. You really do fully believe that he's trying to murder someone when he walks out, and that sheer believability carries over to his promos, where he makes rambling riddle-speak compelling in the way that only he, and perhaps Bray Wyatt, truly can. A nine out of ten in all regards."

His gritty style and raw intensity made him a standout in WWE, but his run in AEW truly cemented his legacy as one of the top stars of his generation. As champion he carried the company during critical moments and proved himself as a reliable draw. His authenticity and willingness to push boundaries have made him one of the most respected wrestlers in the world"

[9.0] "Jon Moxley has quickly become one of my favorite active wrestlers and now ranks in my top ten of all time. While he's not an exceptional athlete like Will Ospreay or a technical wizard like Bret Hart, Moxley brings something different--and just as important--to the ring: storytelling. His in-ring work isn't about flashy sequences or perfect precision; it's about emotion, character, and creating a sense of realism. Moxley uses every tool at his disposal to craft compelling narratives, often tapping into themes of pain, defiance, and survival. When he's on, he draws you into the fight--making every punch, pause, or stumble feel meaningful. That said, his storytelling hasn't always been as consistent lately. Still, when he's motivated and has the right opponent, few can touch the gritty, raw emotion he brings to a match. Moxley doesn't just wrestle; he makes you feel the fight."

He has had a legendary career in general within professional wrestling when it comes to the indies, WWE or AEW. He manages to make a mark anywhere he goes. I would give him a 9 or a 10 based on his career but I wanna look at his current run. Current-day Moxley is decent but not who he once was. He was getting a bit tiring for me since 2023-24 around his IWGP Title run and when he lost it, he left it for a bit before returning with this mysterious character and then him turning BCC into the Deathriders rejuiced the life of Moxley and the faction in general. It had potential to be one of the biggest storylines coming into 2025 but instead it fizzled out and Moxley in general has had some subpar performances. I've been liking him again these last few months but it's gonna take time to mend my liking for him."

You had to wait for a wrestler who was truly up to the task, not just throw in the first name that came to mind and hope for the best. Hangman, especially since the feud with Swerve, has probably become one of the top wrestlers in the world, and he proved it in the match with Mox. But again, credit to Mox as well it takes two to make a match like that. Now I'd like to see his character evolve, because I believe the All In match was the closing chapter for the Mox we've known until now. I'd love to see him do something different maybe form a new stable, or better yet, go solo. What he really needs is a break and a refresh. But let's not forget, we're talking about one of the best wrestlers on the scene."

It's lead to me questioning my love of Moxley but I know that when he slams it on, he's one of the best in the world, it's just that this death riders run is ruining a legacy of greatness for Jon Moxley by making him something he shouldn't be, it's made me notice his flaws a lot more than when he was a face and see him as a much more flawed wrestler."

"When the ancient Roman poet Virgil spoke of the river Tiber foaming with much blood, he was foreshadowing the hemophiliac that is Jon Moxley, better known as Dean Ambrose. When your matches have more blood than the average Tarantino flick, then you've stopped caring about rasslin' or entertainment."

Improved slightly in 2019, but only due to the surprise factors and "hardcore" wrestling which is garbage wrestling in my opinion. As of 2025, he has proven to be an immature man child PR disaster, pointing middle fingers everywhere and spewing the F-word everywhere. Garbage wrestling with nonsense blade jobs. He is an insult to this profession and the legends he emulate such as Terry Funk. He's political and holds young talent down in the name of the "greater good". The sooner he retires the better, if he ever comes back to WWE - a feud with Roman or Seth carrying this chump could save his rating to about 3 or 4."

I liked him as Dean Ambrose with the Shield, but since they disbanded I cannot stand the guy. Guy is an edge lord, he cut himself more than AEW cuts boring promos. He needs to be edgy and bloody and take a stupid spiked bat to the back to be relevant. He gives himself championships lol. I don't like him as a wrestler, but as an addict myself I know it's hard to make it through the end, I just hope his end as a wrestler is soon, because he sucks."

[7.0] "Historically speaking, Jon Moxley (or Dean Ambrose, or both as I should put it) has been one of the greatest brawler wrestlers in the history of the business, and he has been for the most part quite entertaining too. Much like Jericho however, he has been regressing and it's been happening at a young age for Mox and fairly quickly; I have to still be objective and take in his entire career even if his current stuff is absolute dogshit. Jon Moxley came about from the indies like most of the big time wrestlers today have and didn't gain much notoriety until he joined Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns as Dean Ambrose in a career-defining stable known as The Shield. Most of the work The Shield did was great and then Seth turned on Roman ending the alliance between the three. Dean would enjoy quite a bit of a good run as a singles star and got to show his character work even more so than when he did during The Shield's tenure. However, a lot of his time in WWE was plagued by backstage issues (which I am not too up-to-speed on, nor will I pretend to be such) and injuries which ultimately ended his run in the company in 2019. It wouldn't be long before we saw the incredible debut in AEW of Jon Moxley at the same year's Double Or Nothing. That was the beginning of what was a hell of a run by Jon Moxley; winning championships, having interesting segments, and even though his hardcore stuff might be cringe-inducing at times, he's sacrificing a lot for our entertainment so kudos to him. A lot has changed however in the past year, Jon Moxley has been having terrible matches (for historical Jon Moxley standards), has had some strange character in a poorly-presented stable known as The Death Riders, and his World Championship *reign* is one of the absolute WORST in the company's history, but he isn't the worst *all-time* champion in the company due to his previous 3 title reigns not being bad at all, that dubious "honor" belongs to someone else (you probably know who I may be referring to *wink wink*). The last two PPVs have been main-evented by Mox and he has managed to stink up the entire perception of both PPVs with his rather poor in-ring work and absymal endings to those said PPVs. Understandably, Moxley is getting older, but he is 15 years younger than Jericho, who is someone who also has been falling off as of recently but because of age, Jericho's in-ring downfall is to be expected. Of course, Moxley over the last year has been rough, but he *actually is* fixable, probably should rethink his character and focus on getting better again in the ring. I really do like Moxley outside of his more recent stuff, and I'm rooting for him to get better, as I'm sure most wrestling fans who are dissatisfied with his work are."

I never EVER thought I'd reach a point where Id rather have JON MOXLEY of all wrestlers completely off of my tv screen before I "let it play out". he has had 4 horrific ppv main events in a row. His promo style is just nonsensical riddles and empty platitudes. There is nothing enjoyable about moxleys run right now. Jon Moxley's current AEW World Championship run has been marred by controversial booking decisions, fan dissatisfaction, and critiques of his in-ring performances. That's literally all the discourse that's going, and it is deserved! While Moxley has been a pivotal figure in AEW's history, the recent direction of his character and matches has left me and many others yearning for more compelling storytelling and not this surface level nonsense."

[0.0] "What happened to Jon Moxley... it really seemed like this dude had a knack for this pro wrestling stuff. But ever since the Punk feud, he's gone downhill so awfully bad. Guy hasn't had a good, or even decent match in almost two years. The Danielson match was good, but it led to this bullshit ass title reign so it might as well be a 0. If you honestly asked me before this title reign what I thought about Mox, I would literally say he's been holding the company together and been a reliable and believable champ when shit got rocky. But now he is the Kraken trying to sink the AEW ship. I'll change my rating back to an 8/9 after he finishes his first post-title reign program, and see if he's actually washed or not. Since the Punk feud, he's just been this cringe, "Death-Jitsu"/ AJPW Wannabe/Bloodsport Cosplayer, and it's honestly horrific stuff. 2019-early 2023 Moxley, was Elite, no pun intended. What we've had since is literally just post-pandemic Chris Jericho, shit rivalries with shittier matches, and only gets pops when he loses. Tony Khan free us now you bum."

I don't know exactly what restrictions he had on Brock Lesnar back in the day, but I think it must have been something really weird, so Brock turned it down and it ended up being a normal match. Now he's in AEW and he's doing some really weird blood jobs and some really weird scripts. I remember very clearly Triple H saying he would lose that million dollar sponsorship, although he had a weird restriction before. I think he needs someone to protect him.I think he needs to have a separate writing team like in wwe to be able to show his abilities. He's just too much right now."

"My least favorite wrestler to ever be featured in a top spot for an extended time. Completely inadequate in every aspect of being a professional wrestler. For the longest time it struck me that he didn't even want to be a wrestler. Wants to be taken seriously and hated being a comedic wrestler in WWE, but everything about his presentation is comical. From his Popeye expressions to things like "Death Jitsu". It's like what a 10 year old thinks is cool and edgy. Top all that off with the cringiest hardcore matches with no rhyme or reason. Just blood for the sake of blood because it's "kewl". In a business where so many are accused of big egos or being too self important, Mox comes off like a 9 year old who believes his own kayfabe. Completely unenjoyable to watch, to listen to, and to feature a promotion around."
