It's a shame his heel character has been a um, coward for so long, as he could sell some tough-guy antics just as well, no problem. He doesn't work as a face for me, but I'm glad he did for some folks and that he did find some love in TNA. Whether he ends up in MLP full-time, or AEW, or anywhere else, I don't care, I think he probably knows what works best and we'll be in for a hell of a run wherever he commits himself to. Will be looking forwsrd to upping the score then, hopefully."

In Impact/TNA, he found their style and gimmick as a former marine who tried the most to grow and become world champion, First, he was a pretty annoying heel who captured the world title and had bloody and savage matches, then he was a face during the return of TNA and won the new International Championship, he really did that people put attention on the title. However, he need better storylines and more development as a character, not only been a man without a grin."

[8.0] "Maclin has done an impressive job reinventing himself. As Steve Cutler in WWE, he was mostly overlooked, but once he landed in Impact Wrestling, he found his voice and his edge. His presentation as a gritty, intense brawler with a military-influenced persona felt authentic and gave him a clear identity. Maclin's in-ring style is aggressive, physical, and grounded in realism. He's not flashy, but he brings a sense of urgency and purpose to his matches. His rise in Impact, including a run as their World Champion in 2023, showed that he could hang at the top of the card and carry himself like a legitimate threat. He still feels like he's on the upswing of his career, with room to grow on the mic and continue building his legacy. What he lacks in name value compared to some bigger stars, he makes up for in intensity, believability, and hard work"

[8.0] "Maclin never connected in WWE or NXT & the Forgotten Sons was a failure. But I have really enjoyed his reinvention under the TNA banner. I think he's found a character that really works for him. Considering how many flippy guys TNA has, Maclin works really well as an opposition for them. He's been so successful that he's someone I think could be very interesting on a bigger stage now."

[6.0] "He's improved a lot since he arrived in TNA, but he still doesn't click with me. I'm happy he went from being a jobber in WWE to a world champion in Impact... but it clearly wasn't the right time to give him the title; he still has room for improvement. One of Maclin's problems is that he doesn't yet have a persona, something that makes you notice him and differentiates him from other wrestlers on the independent scene. (For example, we all remember Mr. Kennedy for his entrance... Steve has nothing that makes me remember him when the match is over.) In short, Steve has all the potential in the world to be a main eventer, but he needs to find himself, and TNA doesn't need to rush the process."

[9.0] "From a member of a group that most people probably forgot about (which is ironic considering their names was literally The Forgotten Sons) to arguably the best and most interesting character and wrestler in an entire promotion, the evolution of Steve Maclin needs to be studied. Dude is AMAZING in TNA and should seriously be the face of the company. His feud with Josh Alexander and his TNA Title run were both incredible at building him up to be the massive star that he is now."

[9.0] "Steve maclin is one of my favourite wrestlers and perhaps the best brawler of the modern era. He is a no nonsense badass wrestler with a pretty solid and intense moveset. His intense persona suits his wrestling style and he thrives in no holds barred/no dq matches. His world title run was not very long and he deserves a better reign in my opinion. His matches en route to world championships victory were all bangers and till this day he continues to put up solid matches with everybody."

[5.0] "He has had a lot of strong booking in NXT and Impact but has not done enough with it. There are usually other workers on the roster who could do more with the opportunities. Too generic to make a mark. More creativity in his character would help. Being angry for no reason is wearing out as a gimmick"

[5.0] "The definition of average. Not a lot stands out with this guy. I don't buy him as a world champion, or any champion for that matter. His best role is putting others over, and he's alright at that. It also rubbed me the wrong way when he and Deonna went to a party unmasked in the middle of a pandemic, potentially risking people's health and safety."
Raditz Flair wrote on 07.06.2024:
[5.0] "While I think he's better since he was in WWE, he's still a bit of a charisma vacuum. He also has a comically square head and when he's on the mic doling out threatening remarks they just don't land for me. He's a solid worker and will give you his best but there's more wrestlers wherever he works that are better than him and have more charisma. Finally, because I watched Parks and Recreation, all I can think of is Steve Maclin, FBI!"

[9.0] "One of my favorite big boy wrestlers out there today. I could not have cared for him while he was in WWE, but in Impact he really found his ground and became a staple of the promotion. Ring work is a bit on the average - above average side but his character work elevates all that to give his matches a big match feel. Truly a testament to how finding the right look and character can elevate a career to the next level. As he's just picked up his first world title, sky's the limit for Maclin."

He has a very fast-paced and intense style that always results in really entertaining matches. His feud with Miguel over the X-Division title was some of the best stuff I've seen with the title in a while."

[7.0] "Steve Maclin is one of the more surprise packages in wrestling of recent times. A forgettable WWE run where it was hard to assess his ability because he was mainly performing on NXT house house shows and was then part of a boring stable led by the vile Jaxson Ryker/Gunner. But since Impact took a chance on him he's been on a roll and improves in the ring each time I see him. There's times he reminds me of Rhino in his prime, but with even better athleticism. Has held his own against the likes of Sabin, Shelley, Ishii and Jay White. Also been part of some fun X-Division matches, showing speed and good conditioning. Has a convincing badass aura, but still feels a bit wooden as a character, so still needs more work on mic skills. I can see him getting booking offers from NJPW Strong and the like which will only raise his stock."

How is the Marty Jannetty of the Forgotten Sons this good' Maclin has been on one hell of a good run since those first two matches at Beyond against Teddy Goodz and Tony Deppen, and has made himself a proper good singles act. He looks great, and has a super cool and intense style in the ring. I'm so down to see what the next couple years have in store for him."

Mic work is OK but hard to see any aspect where he stands out or can grab the attention of the audience. Seen three or four different gimmicks but nothing sticks. Recently formed a tag team with Blake that might help him develop ."

Developed only very slowly at house shows even though given a lot of time. Small range of moves not always delivered well."
