[7.0] "For Giant Haystacks, in-ring ability was always secondary to aura and charisma, both of which he possessed in spades. However, much like André the Giant, while never a ring general the younger and more svelte Haystacks was remarkably nimble for a man of his considerable size, although he slowed significantly with age and increased weight. Very good psychology and character work compensated for his physical shortcomings and made him wholly convincing as a monster heel. Unfortunately much of the footage available today is of the older and more broken down Haystacks which does not show him in his best light, particularly his brief but disastrous run in WCW. A far better worker than many today give him credit for being."

[6.0] "A truly iconic heel of the British scene in the 70s and 80s, like the British answer to Andre the Giant. While not the greatest in ring and hardly mobile but was undoubtedly a big draw alongside Big Daddy. His WCW run definitely ruined any American perception of him as a monster and instead as some immobile fat giant who couldn't cut a promo"

I wouldn't classify him as pro wrestler during that run, as he mainly stood and took shots - he couldn't catch Scotty Riggs and also struggled with the basic elbow drop... It was not safe and he should have never been there. You could find any random big man on the street and he'd do better. By the looks of other ratings he had a better showing earlier on in his career."

But despite all this is one of the big 3 in icons of British wrestling golden days for me. 3.5 stars."

[7.0] "Giant Haystacks was not a particularly outstanding performer, especially in the twilight of his career, when he had a number of really bad matches, but he was an outstanding representative of his time, who played a significant role in the development of British wrestling, making a really serious contribution to the history of sport, so I don't think his current rating is close to correct, given his status as an icon in United Kingdom."

[2.0] "Very popular in the UK back in the day, but by the time WCW brought him over to face Hogan, he was already too sick to go through with it and after some horrendous matches against jobbers and almost killing poor Scotty Riggs in the ring on a botch, they quickly jobbed him out to the Giant and he went home and unfortunately died from cancer 2 years later. The little bit I have seen of him, he wasn't very good at all. But his size made him popular across the pond."

[5.0] "Horrific wrestler but I'll be damned if he couldn't sell tickets like few others. I think only Big Daddy and maybe, just maybe, Kendo Nagasaki were bigger draws than Giant Haystacks on the British circuit. I often find myself wondering how the British scene could produce incredible talents like Adrian Street, Dynamite Kid and Steven Regal when guys like Giant Haystacks were those selling out venues. That amounts to more than something."
