They tell the story of Cena being rusty and unsure of himself after returning from injury, and Jericho doing everything he can to attack the injury. Cena hangs with the offense and fights his way back to victory in his hometown. All very effective stuff. But it's so slow. Submission moves go on forever. There are so many pauses for Cena to sell the injury and for the ref to check on him. Almost half of this match is just plagued with downtime. It is honestly difficult to stay focused on the whole thing because it just never moves. It is not a match I can recommend to anyone but the most diehard Cena fan. It desperately needed some tempo changes. |

Both times he hit the FU, his facial expressions were great and you could see the struggle that he had both times he hit it ***1/4. |

Cena is clearly the focus from the start of the show, as there is so much hype that it can only end with Cena winning the title. Unfortunately, this overshadows the fact that it is Jericho who carries this match. Cena shows his familiar weaknesses in psychology and selling, and so this encounter becomes a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you could criticize Cena, but on the other hand, you can't praise Jericho enough for making his opponent look good and turning the match into something respectable with his class. To those who say, 'Cena was rusty after his injury break, so it doesn't count', let me say this: then you don't put him in the main event of a PPV. |

Jericho overindulges in holds that stall the momentum, but it is far from his most performance in that aspect. Here he really is at the top of his game in terms of aggression. I would have liked to not listen to him repeatedly utter the same words over and over again, but it is a minor nitpick. John Cena is stellar when it comes to psychology in this one. He is has always been at his best when the odds are against him, and here the neck serves as a debilitating factor both in terms of physicality and confidence; as well as giving Jericho a clear target that makes his heat segment much less meandering than usual. Cena never gets over the top while trying to convey the story and when he finally hits the leg drop from the top it feels like a major win the whole bout has been building up to. From there the match overextends it's welcome just a little, but I genuinely think it is the best possible outcome for an encounter between the two. |

The action wasn't super snappy or fast-paced (and there were a few not so smooth transitions between moves), but the story was really good and both these guys still worked hard. Also Jericho busted out the Lion Tamer. Love to see it. Nothing special, but just pretty good. |

Er spielt den Heel wie immer grandios, aber umso stinkender ist dann das Finish, wo Herr Cena jediglich seine 1-2 Moves benötigt um das Ding nach Hause zu fahren. Jericho dominiert nämlich oft die Partie und macht das ganze auch ansehlich, aber dennoch fehlt da bei mir einfach die Spannung, da ich zu keinem Zeitpunkt das Gefühl hatte das Jericho hier verteidigt - und das gibt dann halt auch Punktabzug. Dennoch dank Y2J lasse ich hier eine knappe 7 stehen. |

Cena kommt zurück, Jericho gewann den Titel zuvor von Batista und der Event war in Bosten: Ich glaube niemand auf der Welt hatte Jericho zu diesem Match auf der Kappe und das spiegelt sich auch die Leistung wider. Wirkte für mich eher wie ein Cena-Jericho Sparingskampf um ersteren wieder ins PPV Main Event feeling zu bringen. Summerslam 2005 oder auch Armageddon 2008 angucken, Survivor Series 2008 ist nur was für Hardcorefans von John Cena |

Man hätte den Titel ja auch bei "Armageddon" wechseln lassen können. Denn die meisten Aktionen kommen hier von Jericho, während Cena zu 75% nur einsteckt. Aber man wollte den Hometown-Hero wohl nicht erneut in seiner Heimat verlieren lassen (wie beim "Summerslam 2006"), weshalb es nach dem Sieg auch Gruppenkuscheln mit Familie und Freunden gibt. |

Ich würde prinzipiell gerade noch zwischen 5 und 6 schwanken, aber dadurch, dass Cena nach seiner Verletzungspause sofort wieder den Titel bekommt und Jericho ihn wieder nur so verdammt kurz halten durfte (obwohl er sich für die WWE 2008 echt den Allerwertesten aufgerissen hat und mit HBK nicht nur das MOTY, sondern auch die beste Fehde des Jahres rausgehauen hat [mal ganz davon was er sich im ladder Match anscheinend rausgehauen hat]), was mich damals wirklich angekotzt hat, gibt es nur 5. Und damit ist dieses Match hier MOTN! Was über die 08er Series so einiges aussagt. |
