Thanks to the double-header, the scenario for the fourth edition of Wrestlemania takes shape, Hogan loses his belt in the most questionable way to André, who gives it away to DiBiase. And then we soon have the tournament. The time management at the end of the TV broadcast is of course catastrophic and denies us a highly interesting match in its entirety in favor of a complaining Hogan interview backstage. Shouldn't happen and drags the show down. |

Insgesamt kam die Show nicht von ringerischer Fertigkeit, sondern über den Charme der Zeit. Mit rund einer Stunde ist das gut dosiert in Anbetracht einer solchen Free-TV-Ausstrahlung, gleich wenn man Strike Force vs. The Hart Foundation dadurch keiner Beachtung schenkte. Dank dem WWE Network bekam man immerhin retrospektiv einen kurzen Einblick in das Finish, das wrestlerisch mit dem Opener zu konkurrieren schien. Honky Ton Man und Randy Savage hatten das Publikum in ihrer Hand, rein von jenen Reaktionen ausgehend ist lediglich die Attitude Ära diesen rivalisierend. Honky Tonk ist ein wunderbarer Heel, der einfach widerspenstig ist und den Face hundert Mal größer wirken lässt. The Giant hingegen ist einfach groß und genau das reicht, ob als Face oder Heel. Der Main Event von The Main Event ein super Match meiner Meinung nach, tosender Rückhalt für Hogan und faszinierender Schlusspunkt bzw. sogar Startpunkt Richtung WrestleMania. Für 45 Minuten Network-Zusammenschnitt kann man da nur wenig falsch machen, je **3/4 um den Dreh. |

Wollte eigentlich chronologisch vorgehen, was sich damit aber erledigt hat. Da der Royal Rumble hier aber gar nicht erwähnt wurde, sollte es für die Storys nicht so schlimm sein. Die Ausgabe ging mit einer Dreiviertelstunde gut weg. Zu Beginn gibt es ein paar kurze Interviews, bevor dann nach gut 10 Minuten das erste Match losgeht. Das IC Title Match fand ich auch echt in Ordnung, der Macho Man ist super over und Honky Tonk hier ein guter Heel. Gute Stimmung und Macho wird weiter als Face aufgebaut, indem er Mrs. Elizabeth in den Ring holt und auf die Schultern nimmt. Fand ich sehr gelungen. Danach kam das große Rematch, nicht im Main Event, was interessant war. Andre ist hier körperlich ziemlich am Ende und bewegt sich extrem langsam. Hogan versucht immer wieder anzurennen und die Fans fressen alles was sie sehen. Großartige Stimmung, wobei das Match wrestlerisch echt nicht so dolle ist. Die Stimmung und die Tatsache, dass Hogan seinen Titel nach fast 4 Jahren verliert, machen das Match aber besonders. Natürlich verliert Hogan nicht clean, sondern durch das Debut von Earl Hebner. Kann man machen und für die damalige Zeit wohl in Ordnung. Vom Main Event sehen wir dann fast gar nichts, sondern nur ca. 1-2 Minuten, da man auch noch Hogan für eine schreckliche Promo zeigt aber sogar der Pinfall ist in der letzten Sekunde der Aufzeichnung noch zu sehen. Hier ging der WWF wohl die Zeit aus, daher schwer zu bewerten. |

The first match was honky vs savge in a match that had like 3 spota and took 12 years. Not a fan(3/10) The post match was nice. Hogan vs andre was not the worst match those 2 could have but godam that finish. That finish and hogan's 10000 hours of bitchig about it just killed the show (1/10) And then in case you did not allrady dislike this show it turns out that we have gone long so we cant see the tag match. What a disater show 2 outa 10 and its only not a one cos im a sucker for macho man x liz stuff. Mvp's ware the 2 tag teams cos they did not have the time to make me wana cry. |

Really dug the story of Hogan being wary of trying to slam Andre again, as he was almost pinned the last time he did it, and instead going for a lot of running strikes to take him down, but turns out it's really hard to knock down a mountain that away. The evil twin referee switch is pretty goofy, but still it was a huge shock to see Hogan lose the belt at all and the whole scene with DiBiase is crazy. |

Denkwürdig war das halt auf jeden Fall, den der Hebner-Zwillings-Angle führt schlußendlich Randy Savage zum World Heavyweight Titel. Aber von vorne: Hogan Trainings Video und was legt das WWE Network für eine Musik drunter? Die 90'er Entreance Musik von Jake Roberts! ? Passt halt so gar nicht und ist furchtbar random. Honky Tonk Man ist für mich der schlechteste Wrestler der 80'er in der WWE und ja, schlimmer als Hilbilly Jim, JYD und Uncle Elmer. Grausames Brawling, eine Clotheline zum totlachen und sonst nur rumgehampel. Warum geht das Publik trotzdem so ab? Wegen seines Themes, wegen Jimmy Hart, wegen des Gegners und wegen Miss Elizabeth. JEDER andere hätte mit diesem Setting gegen Savage antreten können, Honky wäre komplett ersetzbar gewesen. Elizabeth muss gesamt drei Mal von ihrem Mann gerettet werden und nach einem billigen Count Out gibt es eine der Szenen, die mich auch 2020 noch treffen: Savage mit Elizabeth auf der Schulter. Es geht halt einfach nicht besser. Hogan vs. Andre war gar nicht übel fand ich. Hogan mit dem Angriff auf DiBiase & Virgil die durch die Gegend fliegen, dann versucht Hogan Andre von den Füßen zu bekommen aber es gelingt nicht. Sogar aufs oberste Seil klettert der Hulkster und wird von Andre runtergeslammt. Dann ist Andre dran: schlagen, viel würgen und ein Bodyslam. Hogan ohne Superman-Comeback aber die Hütte brennt. Hogan auf dem 2. Seil mit einer Flying Clotheline und ich hab einfach alles gesehen. Virgil greift ein, der Ref verpasst den Legdrop und das Cover. Andre mit dem Headbutt an den Hinterkopf, Double Underhook Slam von Andre und das Cover. Hogan hat die Schulter bei zwei schon oben und rollt auf seine rechte Seite und der Zwillings-Ref zählt trotzdem durch. Szenario danach großartiger Skandal. Und Hogan in der Promo danach spricht von "plastic surgery" - ja klar, weil es keine Zwillinge gibt auf dieser Welt. |

Savage hat noch einmal die Chance sich das Gold vom HTM zu holen. Doch man hat ja anderes mit ihm vor. Es folgt das berüchtigte Match zw. Hogan und dem Giant. Vor allem die Doppelten Hebners und der Verkauf des Titels von Andre an DiBiase bleiben in Erinnerung. Nur leider sieht man dann den ME nicht mehr. War eine interessante Ansetzung. Nur kann man im Abspann sehen das Hart gepinnt wird und wenn der Timer stimmte dauerte das Match keine 2 Minuten. Eine Katastrophe. |

Best remembered for the crazy title change with all its smoke and mirrors. This was different from the Saturday Night Main Event shows as it was situated right in network prime time. The rating and viewership for this show set records for American televised wrestling, but it wasn't significantly higher than their Saturday specials in the late-night time slot. Actually Meltzer predicted it would be much higher. When it wasn't, Meltzer suggested there was a definite 'cap' on the potential audience for the WWF as a result. He was right, they never hit this milestone again. |

Nur das Count Out Finish hat mich gestört (7/10). Das Match zwischen Andre The Giant und Hulk Hogan hat mir überraschenderweise sehr gefallen. Das was Andre hier trotz seines damals sehr schwachen Gesundheitszustand zeigte war wirklich großartig. Großartig war ebenfalls das was nach dem Match passierte , als Andre The Giant seinen Gürtel an Ted Dibiase verkaufte , eine Aktion die bis heute unvergesslich ist (8/10). Das darauffolgende Teg Team kann ich nicht bewerten , weil nur der Anfang gezeigt wurde. |

Super Promo vom Honky Tonk Man, Match geht auch in Ordnung, Horny Honky stellt Elizabeth nach obwohl seine Freundin dabei ist und echte Männer können ihre Frau auf einer Schulterseite tragen. Warum trägt Hogan bei seiner Promo einen anderen Gürtel, der aussieht wie der Intercontinental Belt, oder bin ich blind? Match geht auch okay wenn man die damals bereits starken Limitierungen von Andre bedenkt und nach 1. 474 Tagen Hulkamania running wild natürlich auch ein großer historischer Moment und die nette Story mit den Hebner Zwillingen, obwohl Earl schon anders ausschaut und leichter als Dave ist. Vom Tag Match gibt es nur wenige Sekunden zu sehen bevor die Show off the air geht. Kein tolles Wrestling aber 45 Minuten gute Unterhaltung mit schönem Nostalgie-Faktor. |
