[6.0] "A fairly fast-paced show, written around the two big rivalries of the moment, with the promotion's main titles at stake. The in-ring action isn't technically top-notch, but the impact of well-told stories is palpable. This is the case in the Savage/HTM match, but especially after the match between André and Hogan. The match itself isn't that great, but the segment following that messed-up fall must have been incredible at the time. In-ring quality: 2.75/5. Non-match angles and segments: 1/3. Bonus/Malus: none. Total: 5.75/10. Show seen on WWE Network."

Not only noteworthy for Andre winning the title and then surrendering it to Ted DiBiase literally 2 minutes later, but also for the double Dave Hebner moment definitely made this an all-timer."

[8.0] "I honestly think this is a really good show, and a great start for these specials titled The Main Event. This is a very historical show for having a Hogan/Andre match and the massive ratings that brought to the brand at the time. A decent IC title match with a lot of shenanigans also takes place on this show; Randy gets some decent stuff out of HTM. The tag match at the end is also quite good, but is annoyingly cut off. This one is very important and significant to how Mania 4 shapes up."

[2.0] "This show was infort of the bigest tv audince in wwf history. could the fed bring them a good show to watch. The first match was honky vs savge in a match that had like 3 spota and took 12 years. Not a fan(3/10) The post match was nice. Hogan vs andre was not the worst match those 2 could have but godam that finish. That finish and hogan's 10000 hours of bitchig about it just killed the show (1/10) And then in case you did not allrady dislike this show it turns out that we have gone long so we cant see the tag match. What a disater show 2 outa 10 and its only not a one cos im a sucker for macho man x liz stuff. Mvp's ware the 2 tag teams cos they did not have the time to make me wana cry."

[8.0] "Great show, I honestly enjoyed it a lot. Sure, the wrestling is not the best in any way, shape or form, but every match has tremendous heat and the crowd is into each and every wrestler involved in this event. I wasn't a fan of Hogan's bitching after the loss, which went on FOREVER, but I loved everything about it apart from that."

Really dug the story of Hogan being wary of trying to slam Andre again, as he was almost pinned the last time he did it, and instead going for a lot of running strikes to take him down, but turns out it's really hard to knock down a mountain that away. The evil twin referee switch is pretty goofy, but still it was a huge shock to see Hogan lose the belt at all and the whole scene with DiBiase is crazy."

[6.0] "An important event. In-ring it's pretty ordinary, but The Main Event is a vibrant 40-minute slice of 80s WWF at its peak. Best remembered for the crazy title change with all its smoke and mirrors. This was different from the Saturday Night Main Event shows as it was situated right in network prime time. The rating and viewership for this show set records for American televised wrestling, but it wasn't significantly higher than their Saturday specials in the late-night time slot. Actually Meltzer predicted it would be much higher. When it wasn't, Meltzer suggested there was a definite 'cap' on the potential audience for the WWF as a result. He was right, they never hit this milestone again."

[7.0] "Important edition with three matches for the titles. Randy Savage vs Honky Tonk Man is a nice opener, they knew how to tell a story. Hulk Hogan vs André rematch isn't a good match but it's relevant with the title change after many years. I don't like the decision to have Hogan lose it in that way and without a new champion. The main event is short. To see for the World title change."
