"i was there! this was my first wrestling show i've been to live after being a fan for some years now. i had a great time, i think the pacing of the ppv was somewhat weird (mostly jericho's match being the semi-main) but i was really honored to be able to see bryan danielson wrestle his last full-time match. you could hear a pin drop in the tacoma dome when the match ended. a kid coming up the stairs afterward blurted out "BRYAN'S DEAD! " the takeshita-ricochet-ospreay match was especially exciting to see live, as was seeing jay white take on hangman adam page. 9/10."
[8.0] "WrestleDream 2024 gives AEW fans another unforgettable night of professional wrestling. Nine matches and none of them are really bad, although the Young Bucks vs Private Party match was a bit deflating(the Dynamite rematch soon after this is much better). But like any good PPV, you gotta focus on the highs. There's a really good opener here with Hangman in the heel role following his destruction of Swerve last month at All Out, with the sneaky Jay White getting a win here before they run it back again at Full Gear. Mariah May has a great match with my girl Willow. Willow is one of AEW's great babyfaces, its impossible not to root for her, and Mariah gives an absolute heel champ superstar performance tonight. Match of the night once again goes to an Ospreay match, an excellent three way involving him, Ricochet, and Takeshita. So many fun sequences, feats of strength and athleticism. Takeshita bringing the table out early and the match constantly building suspense over when its gonna get used was brilliant. The big finish is cheap, but it leads to an absolutely great feud with Fletcher and gets the belt on my favorite wrestler rn Takeshita, so I'll take it. The audience was a bit dead after that for Hologram vs the Beast Mortos, which was too bad cuz it was a very fun Lucha battle. Darby vs Brody King was a classic big guy vs little guy match, although Darby hitting two moves at the end to win seems a bit much. And finally, we got the main event. Danielson vs Moxley. These guys have had a few bouts in AEW, but never with stakes this big, and I think this is their best work together. Right from the start with Mox attacking Danielson before he even finished his intro it was heated, with a lot of tense back and forth as "The Final Countdown" added to the tension. Danielson, the GOAT underdog babyface, perfectly works this match, taking control, feeding off the crowd, nailing his comeback spots. Moxley, I dont think he's been this good since his All Out match against Orange Cassidy. He's in excellent form here as the anti-pop dirty brawler, kicking out of three Busaiku Knees and slowly dismantling Danielson. Marina getting kicked out around the 3/4th mark was an excellent idea, gives you hope that maybe Bryan can win this. Danielson has made a career out of miracle comebacks; hell he wasn't even supposed to wrestle again before he came to AEW. He's been on burrowed time, and unfortunately it runs up tonight. His final dying grasps for the ropes, the audience cheering him on, before finally succumbing to Mox's submission - you can feel the air in the arena die. Its a tough, unforgettable ending, especially the brutal post match beatdown, as Danielson's own WrestleDream comes to an end."
[8.0] "(8.1/10) I'm kind of surprised how high the score ended up being. This comes with an asterisk though: the final tally is done without the addition of the Jericho/Briscoe matchup. It was the only one (out of nine) that I did not get to see."
[5.0] "The main event and the post match angle are some of my favourite things AEW have ever done, which is great but unfortunately the only thing worth watching on this PPV. The Darby/Brody match was great, but you've seen it before, and Jay/Hangman was pretty good too, but everything else ranged from fine to genuinely awful. Ospreay's worst match to date I think, the Bucks having yet another bad night, Jericho being Jericho, it's full of the worst stuff AEW has to offer in 2024."
[9.0] "Jay vs page. ****1/4. May vs willow. ***1/2. Perry vs shibata. **1/4. Takeshita vs ricochet vs Ospreay. ****3/4. Hologram vs mortos. ****1/2. Darby vs king. ***1/4. Fucks vs private party. ***1/2. Jericho vs brisco. **. Moxley vs Danielson. ****1/4"
[9.0] "Probably AEW's most consistent PPV this year with every match being anywhere between okay to amazing. It had the retirement of the greatest wrestler of all time, it had very good singles matches, my only issues were the TNT title match and the ROH title match because they weren't all that great. The rest of the show however, was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed it a lot and I definitely recommend it to people who enjoy in-ring wrestling. This show is one of the reasons why pro-wrestling is an amazing thing that everyone should enjoy."
[8.0] "A show that was pretty consistently good throughout, with a few forays into "great" territory, as well as a few slightly-questionable booking decisions - notably the three-way between Takeshita, Ospreay and the debuting Ricochet and the main event between Danielson and Moxley; I don't know that Mox would've been my first choice to end Danielson's full-time career, and I don't really know that he needed another title reign at this juncture, but the angle behind the match played out well. There's also a nice opener between White and Page (though, again, I wouldn't have had Page lose his first big PPV match after the big win over Swerve at All Out). The lucha match between Hologram and Mortos was also lots of fun, May-Nightingale and Allin-King were also good, and the rest was all solid. A strong show with a few notable highlights as well as a few booking nitpicks."
[9.0] "Great show, no bad matches and a couple of bangers. It wasn't as good as All In but stuff as the Triple Threat needs to be seen. Main-event was excellent but the ending felt underwhelming. Overall an awesome bag, perhaps an Hardcore match would have given more variety. ****1/2"
[6.0] "I felt like this was one of the weaker AEW Pay Per Views. Total one match show with the triple threat absolutely stealing the show as expected. All of the in ring work is solid to great as to be expected with AEW, but some of these decisions made booking wise just has me in a total funk watching AEW lately. The Main Event especially, The Young Bucks and Jack Perry's stranglehold on titles, Chris Jericho in general, a lot of people that make me say please just go away taking up valuable TV time that could be used to build someone else up."
[6.0] "The only great match was the triple threat, and I really liked the women's match and the main event too, even though the endind wasn't great. The Young Bucks desperately need to lose those championships, I think all their matches have been pretty awful, especially this one, a boring confusing spotfest with way too many kick outs. Leaving that aside, the show was tolerable, but some questionable booking decisions and meaningless matches stopped this from being truly good. I don't understand why the hologram v beast mortos watch was in this, and why it was a 2 out of 3 falls. And why did hologram win? It's impossible to take him serious especially seeing him win against the monster that is the beast mortos. It's a disgrace that there was only 1 women's match in this card. I wasn't disappointed by this show, because this was kind of what i expected when I saw the card."
[9.0] "Fantastic PLE imo, no weak matches (even with Jack Perry on the card! ), phenomenal promo segments, a wonderful progression from incredibly fun highs (Jay White return and W, the existence of Willow Nightengale, Hologram-Mortos 3 fall) to emotional lows (Fletcher turn, Briscoe's win, the end of Bryan Danielson), and, above all, it left the audience with so much to think about. Phenomenal work here."
[9.0] "A great show keeping the AEW PPV streak alive. The weakest matches were still really good PPV quality matches and the best matches were amazing to watch. The three-way was the match of the night and that closing shot will be remembered for a long time. Thank you, Bryan. 9/10."
[9.0] "Another excellent PPV and a great year for AEW after a rough 2nd half of 2023. Great opener and main event, with several other matches throughout the show being really good including Darby/Brody, Hologram/Mortos and May/Willow. Even the weaker matches were good on the night. The three way probably stole the show though, as many expected. There's still plenty of things they can tighten up with their weekly TV, especially making Collision more essential, but they rarely miss when it comes to their big shows. If they can maintain this level for the final two of the year, then it may end up being their best year of PPVs so far."
[6.0] "This show highlighted several issues for me. Why arent the BCC investigated, interrogated, etc. for attempted murder, twice, on the same man? Why doesnt Tony suspend, fire, or strip them of the belt? Why is 90% of the roster seemingly heels at this point? BCC, Elite, Learning Tree, HoB, Don Callis Family all heels. MJF, Hangman heels. Top babyfaces are OC and Darby. Ospreays busy with Ricochet and Takeshita. It just doesnt scream logic. I shouldnt have to find the logic for Tony. It also shouldnt do god damn subtle that its practically non existent. We have two factions trying to take over AEW in the Elite and BCC. WHY? ! ? ! Why was the final matchs ending so bad? Why are there so few womens matches?"
[10.0] "i was in attendance so it gets a 10. Plus just everything on this show ruled, well mostly everything. Jay White VS Hangman, Jericho VS Briscoe, Triple Threat, and Moxley VS Danielson were all one hell of a good time for me."
[9.0] "Another really great PPV from AEW, who seem to have been consistently producing really good PPVs every time, mixed in with a great segment with Swerve, MVP, Prince Nana and Shelton although I was a bit bummed that wasn't the Lashley debut, as well as the return of Adam Cole. Hanger/Jay - ****1/4, Mariah/Willow - ***3/4, Perry/Shibata - ***, Takeshita/Ospreay/Ricochet - ****3/4, Hologram/Beast Mortos - ****, Darby/Brody - ****1/4, Bucks/Private Party - ***1/2, Mark/Jericho - ***, Mox/Bryan - ****1/2."
[9.0] "AEW WrestleDream was an awesome show from top to bottom with several standout matches that was capped with one of the emotionally driven endings to a PPV I ever seen. Jay White vs. Hangman Page was such a brilliant opener with a beautifully told story where everything mattered. From the leg work by White to his subtle way of staying away from the middle of the ring for the Buckshot Lariat, this was a wonderfully put together bout that paid off on everything at the end (****1/2). Mariah May vs. Willow Nightingale was a great match that overdelivered and exceeded my expectations. Willow had another terrific babyface performance, while Mariah had her best match of her title reign (****). Jack Perry vs. Katsuyori Shibata showcased Shibata's strong style past and had him beat the hell out of Perry before The Scapegoat using her resourcefulness to get a win. This was a fine match that was overshadowed by the post match returns of MJF and Adam Cole (***). Konosuke Takeshita vs. Will Ospreay vs. Ricochet was absolutely phenomenal. One of the greatest three-way matches of all time with nonstop action, brilliant storytelling and an impactful finish w/Kyle Fletcher turning heel on Ospreay. All three men were spotlighted with Ospreay & Ricochet's hybrid strong style and high flying blending well with Takeshita's physicality and agility. This was a masterpiece in every way possible (*****). Hologram vs. The Beast Mortos was a blast to watch. They used the 2 out of 3 falls stipulation was an ideal match type that both men were used to and excelled in (***3/4). Darby Allin vs. Brody King was an excellent David vs Goliath battle. Hard hitting, intense and told a damn good underdog babyface performance. All Darby needed was one mistake to take advantage of and was able to pull out the win (****1/4). Young Bucks vs. Private Party was thrilling and got better as it went on. Isiah Kassidy had the best performance of his career as the babyface in peril, while Matthew & Nicholas Jackson have once again found their stride during this reign. Best Private Party AEW match so far (****). Mark Briscoe vs. Chris Jericho was so much better than it had any right being. Briscoe is undeniably entertaining and knows how to showcase his ability against any opponent. Jericho was also very good in his own right here (***1/2). Jon Moxley vs. Bryan Danielson was a fantastic main event that had superb storytelling throughout. Moxley felt like a bully heel and worked this match extremely well, while Bryan is the consummate underdog babyface who knows how to pace his matches especially in this setting. With the crowd on his side, Danielson brings the fire at the right time and meshed well with Moxley's style to near perfection (****3/4)."
[8.0] "Wrestledream this year was a great show, though it feels weird how little tie in it had to Inoki this year on the main card after starting as a tribute show. Anyways, there were some fantastic matches on the card here and nothing fell below enjoyable for me. The downer ending went a long ways in making this show truly memorable as it was a great and very unexpected moment. [MOTN: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay]"
[7.0] "Wrestle Dream 2024 is a frustrating lesson for Tony Khan and AEW that he really should understand by now, with AEW over five years old. This was a potential 9/10 or even 10/10 PPV, but the match order was so poorly arranged that halfway through the show the audience was left exhausted and quiet. Four out of nine matches struggled to regain the audience, because the first half of the show was so high quality that the back half was incredibly overshadowed. In what universe do you put matches like Hangman vs. Jay White, Mariah May vs. Willow Nightingale, Jack Perry vs. Katsuyori Shibata with returns from Garcia, MJF, and Adam Cole, and fucking Ospreay vs. Takeshita vs. Ricochet in the first half of your PPV? A child could have said this was a bad idea. If the overall quality of the matches in this PPV were any worse, this could have been a complete disaster, but luckily the matches really were overall very good. As such, what could have been a 9 or 10 out of 10 PPV dropped to just a 7/10 for me. When I think of that 3-way with Takeshita winning it makes me want to bump it up to an 8/10, but then I also remember fucking Jericho got a 15-minute PPV match right b before the main event and 7/10 will just have to do."
[9.0] "Another tremendous PPV from AEW in a year where they've produced many. As questionably hit and miss as their TV is, you know you're going to be getting your moneys worth from their PPVs, as only DoN and Forbidden Door have been less than a 9 for me so far in 2024. Great action up and down the card, with two phenomenal outings and an emotional send-off for one of the all-time greats (for the time being), my only real negative here is that A LOT happened on this show. Hangman vs. Switchblade was an excellent opener. This was in a weird predicament as neither should really have lost this, but they went with the right decision as Jay challenging for the belt in the very near future sounds like a good shout: ****+. Mariah vs. Willow was very good indeed. This programme was totally cobbled together, but they had a very fun outing. Willow should really be the star babyface of the division, but May shouldn't be beaten yet either: ***1/2. Perry vs. Shibata was probably the weakest match on the card, mainly because of the dumb finish (I remember Kensuke Sasaki winning the IWGP Title off Kazuyuki Fujita in the exact same fashion, and it was even more lame then), but it was a good little outing whilst it lasted: ***1/4. The post match had the returns of Garcia, MJF and Adam Cole, so the roster is certainly getting a restacking. The International Title 3-Way was fantastic stuff. Unmatched flippy shenanigans and hard-hitting suplexery made for a tremendous outing, and I was very pleased to see Takeshita get the W here. And add this to Ospreay's already overflowing MOTYC list: ****3/4+. The post match Kyle Fletcher heel turn was well done too. After the 3-Way and hometown hero Swerve's angle with The Hurt Business, the Hologram vs. Mortos match had a tough time following. The crowd were quiet early, but they ultimately won them round and had a great little lucha match: ****. Darby vs. Brody was a match I loved. It was better than anticipated and told a great story. I've always had a soft spot for matches in which the little guy bumps around like crazy for the big monster, and Allin took some punishment here before finally prevailing. Excellent: ****1/4. Young Bucks vs. Private Party wasn't a match I was particularly hyped for, given PP's status as no-hope jobbers, but they brought their A-games here and had a great little match. There were times I believed PP might pulloff the upset, but it wasn't to be: ***3/4. The ROH World Title Match was another match I didn't have much enthusiasm for on paper, but ended up being great too, far exceeding expectations. For as stale as Jericho is in 2024, he was in there with Mark Briscoe, who's a lovable babyface, and helped make this better than it had any right to be. An extra quarter star for the right guy winning too: ****. And Danielson vs. Moxley was a fantastic, hard-hitting war of a main event. Even though I suspected this was Dragon's fulltime swan song, I was totally invested in him keeping the reign going, and the drama helped to create not only another fab match for Danielson in 2024, but one of the better Mox matches you'll ever see. I liked the finish, it was a fittingly believable end for someone who took a ton of punishment in the last year, and as borderline overkill as the postmatch beatdown was, it was a great way of writing Danielson off, and establishing the new BCC as a heel force to be reckoned with: ****3/4."
[10.0] "One of my favorite PPVs of the year, and had essentially no bad matches for a card with 9 matches. There were two stunning matches with the triple threat and main event, and then some absolute barn burners with the Darby vs King match, the Lucha 2 out of 3 falls match, and the opener."
[7.0] "Leaning towards 7 points for the show. My issue was that 2 hours in, I lost interest. Hologram/Mortos, Allin/King, Bucks/PP, Briscoe/Jericho, none of that interests me. Just a long wait for the main event. It doesn't mean it was bad, they just didn't built these matches enough for me to be relevant. Match quality throughout was very good and consistent. Booking was good and consequential, especially the main event booking was great. Maybe they could turn down the overloading of PPVs, did we need MJF and Cole back on PPV, can't they wait for Dynamite? Did we need Fletcher and Yuta to turn both on the PPV, can't we place these things a bit stretched out? It's good what they're doing, each segment on its own, but the overall result could've been better by doing less."
[9.0] "Bryan Danielson thank you for all that you have given to the wrestling world, you will forever be one of the greatest of all time. Wrestledream was about you this year, and I wish nothing but the best in surgery. This show ruled, again I watched in 2 halves and again I was fully invested throughout (Apart from 2 matches but on to them later.) Kicked off very well with Page against White, would have liked this more if it was heel Jay White but they're still both amazing wrestlers. Mariah May against Willow Nightingale was next and was really good! Willow has been on an amazing run of matches recently and this is no different, Jack Perry vs Shibata was meh, Shibata hasn't impressed me much in AEW, Perry barely gets the time that some of those above him do on shows but I think he deserves more. the returns of MJF and Adam Cole after the match were great to see, I hope Daniel Garcia is the one to win the TNT Title eventually. Takeshita vs Ospreay vs Ricochet was amazing, but I have to mark it down a notch due to the fact that whenever Ospreay and Ricochet have a match, they ALWAYS do this stupid superman landing spot, like ALWAYS, I implore you to show me a match between the 2 where they have NOT done it, and it looks awful every single time. Very glad for Takeshita winning the belt here, hope he holds it for a long time as he deserves it. Hologram vs Mortos was next and was a really fun matchup, more-so in the 3rd fall than the first 2 but that's how most 2/3 falls matches go. I hope this faction with Rush and Mortos goes somewhere. Darby Allin against Brody King was not something that interested me going into the show but they managed to make me care, it was another really good match, I think Allin is a dodgy person but it seems they're headed the way of him being the one to dethrone the new AEW Champion, I can understand it since he reminds me of a modern day Jeff Hardy. The Young Bucks against Private Party was okay, not much else to say on that, I want GYV as Tag Champions so however we get there I want it. Mark Briscoe vs Jericho was bad, but that's no fault of Briscoe, I thought AEW had finally stopped booking Jericho on PPV's after All Out, but I was wrong, I hope he retires sooner rather than later, scum of the earth. Moxley vs Bryan Danielson was good, not an all time classic but very good, and a sad end to the full time career of Danielson, but that is what it is, sad. Brutal scenes post match again, but I didn't like the Yuta heel turn, fans were finally starting to have a reason to care about Yuta and now he's just a mindless crony for the BCC again. Hook and O.C being out there post match likely means one of those 2 are getting a title match soon, I personally see Allin dethroning Moxley before Christian cashes in and then we have Cage against Allin where Sting can help Allin win the world title. Great show as per usual by AEW, they never miss (when you split it in 2 watches)"
[8.0] "Jay White/Hangman: **** Mariah May/Willow: *** 1/2 Perry/Shibata: *** Ospreay/Ricochet/Takeshita: **** 1/2 Hologram/The Beast Mortos: **** Darby/Brody King: *** 1/2 Young Bucks/Private Party: *** Briscoe/Jericho: *** Moxley/Danielson: **** Strong action from start-to-finish. Nothing below *** means a good night of wrestling. The ending of the show felt flat on the first viewing, but I appreciated the "Empire Strikes Back" ending on a rewatch and anticipate what is being set up. No big sendoff for Danielson, but we know he will eventually be back for revenge against this iteration of BCC."
[9.0] "Jay White vs Adam Page: Good match to start the PPV, the legwork from White to Page was good to see, White getting the win was good to see, some cool exchanges and moments [***3/4]. Mariah May vs Willow Nightingale: Considering this match did not have that much build to it, it was quite enjoyable, Willow hitting a cartwheel was surprising to see but May winning was not surprising [***]. Jack Perry vs Katsuyori Shibata: An okay match, a bit underwhelming at times, should have had more time [*3/4]. Konosuke Takeshita vs Ricochet vs Will Ospreay: Really good three way match, the crowd was into it, all three gave a really solid showing, Kyle Fletcher turning on Ospreay was shocking, Takeshita winning was not the right decision [****1/2]. Hologram vs The Beast Mortos: Nice lucha libre showcase in AEW, with some great lucha exchanges, Hologram wins another match to remain undefeated in AEW which is good to see, Mortos put on a good showing as well [****]. Darby Allin vs Brody King: Allin took a beating in this one, King actually had a decent showing, they put on a decent match [***3/4]. Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson vs Isaiah Kassidy & Marq Quen: A great tag team title defense for The Young Bucks, the dive off the tunnel before the match started was cool to watch, the actual match was enjoyable which is surprising for a YB match, PP should have won the titles [***1/4]. Mark Briscoe vs Chris Jericho: Jericho needs to take time off as shown here as he proved his best days are behind him, when he mimicked the late Jay Briscoe was sickening to watch, Mark Briscoe proved that he is worthy of being the ROH world champion, Big Bill and Bryan Keith getting involved was not needed, also 15 minutes was a bit too long in my opinion, maybe should have been 9/10 minutes [***]. Jon Moxley vs Bryan Danielson: The opening moments when the Final Countdown was still playing was cool to watch, what a match to end the full time career of Danielson, he tried to keep the reign going but Moxley proved to be able to topple him, it's sad that Danielson is no longer a full time wrestler, the match in itself was physical as expected [****3/4]"
[7.0] "WrestleDream was certainly a bit nightmarish at times, and a snoozefest at others, but I think this was a nice, solid night of wrestling. Highlights from the night in the ring include the three-way match for the International Championship as my match of the night, as well as the two-out-of-three falls match between Hologram and The Beast Mortos: two matches that showcased their talent at their best and in their element. Lowlights for me included a profoundly boring ROH title match between Mark Briscoe and Chris Jericho, as well as the tag title match which felt more like a TV angle than an actual match. The main event was very interesting. A fine match as a whole, with plenty of twists and turns throughout, but it was the post-match that provided us with the intrigue. Danielson leaving AEW on his shield (or his stretcher), the locker room emptying out to defend him from Moxley and company, and a rather abrupt end that felt a bit too long-winded at the same time. I think tonight leaves AEW in a make-or-break position -- if they can turn these lasting moments into an all-encompassing storyline, I think it will work wonders for them, but they have to perform quite the balancing act by my estimation. As a whole, a fairly pleasant wrestling dream that could wake up the pro wrestling world with the right follow-through."
[9.0] "Will be a very memorable show in the future and feels like a bit of a darker reset for the company just with the champions coming out of the show. I think tonally it was an interesting decision to try and upset the crowd; however, it was done with intention and thought, and ultimately will likely lead to some future catharsis since it felt evident we were seeing an entire plan in motion with a lot of future matches set up and a lot of new stories that are being told. There was nothing shocking on the show, and I think outside of the triple threat, there weren't any 10/10 matches, but Jay White and Adam Page had a great opening match, Willow gave Mariah the best match of her reign, and Hologram/Mortos, The Tag Team title match, and Darby and Brody were all super solid PPV matches, even if they weren't five star classics. I do think Isaiah Cassidy took a major step tonight and showed out, so kudos to him. The main event had a big fight feel and people were pretty much on their feet for the entirety of the match, and there was such a palpable deflation in the crowd. And that was a good thing this show."
[6.0] "In parts this show felt like a collection of biggish Dynamite matches rather than a PPV-level event, and that felt especially true the longer the card went. This show might have actually peaked with the opener for me. I thought that was probably the best-worked match of the night. Even looking at this card on paper, there are at least four matches I just don't really care about, which is almost half of the matches on the show. It was all still pretty watchable and I never found myself getting bored, but there's not a whole lot about this show which I thought was truly remarkable or memorable. One of the biggest disappointments for me is that we still don't know what Moxley's motivations are. If there's not another layer added to this angle soon, it's going to go down the same way as the Elite takeover."
[8.0] "Wasnt a single bad thing on this PPV. That being said, Ive got to be honest. I really dont care for Private Party. The match with the bucks was basically fine, but they have no business having this match on PPV. It felt like a TV match and I suspect that PP have already peaked and this isnt getting any better. Time to accept that they are where they are and push some different teams. The main event and the angle afterwards was wonderfully done. Hope we see Bryan soon, but what a career. This PPV managed to over deliver in every match and somehow felt like a reset as well. Tony should be congratulated for this."
[10.0] "Bar the Jack Perry bout, every single match on this card was at least an 8/10 in my books with Hangman vs White, Danielson vs Moxley, and ESPECIALLY the International title triple threat being match of the year contenders. Thank you Bryan"
[10.0] "Incredible PPV from AEW once again continuing their hot streak of all bangers in 2024. Hangman and Jay was the perfect way to open the show, and the Bladerunner counter to end the match was superb. Next up, the womens title which again was an excellent showing from both Willow and Mariah these 2 are both really great at there roles. Mariahs best match since Wembley. The TNT championship was the low point in the show for me, but the match was still good. More importantly was the aftermath with the returns of MJF and Adam Cole BAY BAY which was awesome. Words cannot explain how fantastic the three way was my expectations were incredibly high going in and it still somehow blew it out the water. All three men are insanely talented and I am happy Takeshita has the chance to prove he can be a major factor in AEW moving forward. Swerve is a STAR and is presented as such did this need to be on the PPV, no but it was great nonetheless. The 2 out of 3 Falls match started slow due to the crowd being a bit burnt out from the previous few segments but the last fall was great and the crowd eventually got into the match. Darby and Brody were great too as expected. Darby looks destined for the championship but Brody should also be featured as the singles guy in HOB. Bucks vs Private Party was great too, call backs to previous matches, great looking offense and people were ready for Private Party to be champions. I can understand some of the negativity towards the Bucks but most of it seems forced. Jericho and Briscoes also had an enjoyable match. Then the main event what more to say Bryan is simply the greatest. Such an incredible brutal match. The ending was shocking and sets up Mox as the big bad in AEW moving forward. The show flew by with outstanding wrestling throughout not a single bad match on the show with one MOTY contented (triple threat) and 2 outstanding matches (opener and main event) 10/10"
[8.0] "Great PPV 8.5/10 - Highlights include the triple threat, MJF and others segment, Lucha match and the opener. I don't understand why Bryan Danielson's career ended at a sad and low point and the title reign was too short. Chris Jericho as always being a stinker on the card but overall great PPV."
[8.0] "I really enjoyed this show. I thought basically every match was at least fine, which is pretty impressive for these long AEW cards, and many of them were good to great. I have my nitpicks and the things I would have done differently. And I also felt that the card was missing a truly amazing match to push things into the stratosphere -- while I really liked the international triple threat and Hangman vs Jay White, I don't think either are going to be a match of the year contender for me. Altogether a high floor, but low (by AEW PPV standards) ceiling."
[8.0] "A pretty great show. The wrestling wasn't as consistently good as it has been on previous AEW shows but there were still a lot of very good matches here. The opener between Hangman and Jay was great as was the Women's title match, the 3 way did have a few problems but was still pretty good overall, the match between Darby and Brody was sick too and of course the main event and all the chaos that took place after it was excellent and resulted in one of the best endings to a PPV all year. This show does have it's problems though. For one, I thought the card was structured really weirdly. Like why was the Jericho match saved until second to last? Why was the 2/3 falls match placed right after the 3 way when they're both pretty similar in style. Two pretty weird decisions that definitely effected my enjoyment of the show overall. Also why was that Swerve segment on the show? Could've just happened on Dynamite, was a complete waste of time in my view. Overall, this was a great show, featuring a few great matches, and excellent main event and one of the best show closing angles of the year. MOTN - Bryan Danielson v Jon Moxley"
[9.0] "Few small changes away from a perfect show, but still, probably show of the year. Every match was good to fantastic, the Swerve/Hurt Syndicate segment was well done, really shaped up to be a 10/10 show. But, there were a couple of things that held it back for me, the end of Shibata/Perry felt flat, even if it was picked up by the parade of returns. Private Party could've won here, especially after being shit on in a pre-match promo, and it would've elevated the show even higher, but if the end goal is giving them the belts at Full Gear then fine. People will try to tell you the ending was bad, for some stupid reason. The storybook ending was at All In, and the tragic ending was here. Moxley is the biggest heel AEW's had in a while and the BCC angle, especially with Yuta now, is very intriguing. Whoever does beat Moxley will be elevated huge, and based on the closing shot it looks like its gonna be Darby. All in all, a great show that slowed down a few times but was fantastic overall and made me want to watch the next show."
[8.0] "Engaging and exciting show top to bottom, with plenty of talking points moving forward following Wrestle Dream, capped off by such an emotionally charged ending for better or worse. Match #1: Hangman Page v. Jay White (***3/4) Glad to see White return with such a clean win over a major player in Page, who himself is going in an interesting direction. Also, what an amazing ending sequence! Match #2: Mariah May v. Willow Nightingale (***1/2) Mariah continues to exceed expectations for such a young performer, both in ring and character wise. Willow also still is an amazing face, but really should be getting a big win soon. Match #3: Jack Perry v. Katsuyori Shibata (**3/4) Some decent strikes let down by a finish that felt a little hollow, but overall the match accomplished its goal of giving Perry a win over a credible contender, even if the finish was rarely in doubt. Post match, Daniel Garcia confronts Perry, setting up a future clash and I believe a potential title change. But then the music of MJF hits and all hell breaks loose, with MJF then being confronted by a returning Adam Cole (BayBay). Great segment worthy of a big show like this. Match #4: Konosuke Takeshita v. Ricochet v. Will Ospreay (****1/2) Beautifully executed match with three of the most amazing performers on the planet. Ending was fantastic, with Fletcher officially turning his back on Ospreay and Takeshita becoming the new champion. Prince Nana welcomes the returning Swerve Strickland, both of whom are quickly interrupted by MVP & Shelton Benjamin. From the initial tension between Swerve and Nana to Swerve refusing to join MVPs management services, to Shelton Benjamin getting his flowers, this segment made everyone look like a million bucks and important investments to AEW, while still teasing a debut by Bobby Lashley. Exceptional segment. Match #5: The Beast Mortos v. Hologram (****) A spectacle into the super human athletics of lucha libre performed by two of AEWs top Hispanic stars. While Hologram was the featured attraction that is being built up, Mortos continues to dazzle and make me want to see him more. Match #6: Brody King v. Darby Allin (***1/2) A match used to get Darby on his home state show, but these two have such a good dynamic that the lack of recent build shouldnt matter and you will never hear me complain watching Brody King. Interesting ending segment with King shaking Darbys hand. Match #7: Private Party v. The Young Bucks (***1/4) This was a mechanically great match as these two teams always have, but the ending does unfortunately bring it down. While I understand the need to maybe build Private Party up a bit more, the crowd was ready to explode for them to take the titles. Time may do this match a service, but for now, my thoughts remain. Match #8: Chris Jericho v. Mark Briscoe (***) A surprisingly well-paced match that had some believable near falls and an emotional backbone that is often missing or far too forced in Jerichos feuds. Match #9: Bryan Danielson v. Jon Moxley (****1/4) An emotional and at times heartbreaking match that has capped off the full time in ring career of Danielson. Much can be said about the decision to have Mox take the belt for his record fourth reign with the World Title. However, I think this could prove an important decision, as it allows for a young and hungry challenger to eventually dethrone Mox and save AEW from this new evil sub-Combat Club faction, just as Moxley wanted. The match itself was brutal and exciting, with each move having me hold my breathe, which I think marks it as an accomplishment as the main event."
[9.0] "Definitely not my favorite show from AEW that I've watched, mostly due to pacing and some rather interesting booking decisions that took me a bit to process. I would've let Private Party win, I think that'd only make sense. I also would've either let Perry vs. Shibata go longer at the very least, because while I understand they essentially booked themselves into a corner since it wouldn't make sense for Shibata to lose clean to Perry and they didn't want Jack Perry to lose the title with Daniel Garcia returning, as well as Adam Cole coming out after MJF. Pacing wise, I would've had the Two Out Of Three Falls Match start the show and go from there. Asides from that, there was not a single bad match on the card, even the Jericho match was enjoyable thanks to Briscoe. Everything was from good to fantastic, action wise, and asides from those two things previously mentioned, the booking was great, and an indicator of a notable change in creative which was absolutely needed for AEW. Favorite matches of the night have to be the Three Way between Will Ospreay, Ricochet, and Takeshita, Best Two Out Of Three Falls Match between Hologram and The Beast Mortos, and Jon Moxley vs. Bryan Danielson, obviously. The Three Way was superb action, and a needed title win for Takeshita, who has been deserving of a title for over the past year. The betrayal from Kyle Fletcher to Will Ospreay was on point, and I can't wait to see where that goes. Hologram vs. Mortos was just so much fucking fun, and I'm so happy we are getting more of this in the future, it's such good variety. Jay White vs. Adam Page was great and brutal fun, these two really do have good chemistry. Mariah May vs. WIllow Nightingale was fun stuff, and it's great to see the women starting to have better matches overall mostly to better booking. Despite it being so short and with an odd finish, Perry and Shibata had great chemistry and was super great while it was happening. Darby Allin vs. Brody King was insane, and I was starting to lose counts on how many Coffin Drops that Darby has done. Mark Briscoe probably gave Jericho his best match all year, which is certainly an achievement. That fucking main event is where this show gets elevated a couple points for me. One of the most brutal retirements I think I have ever seen, and one that worked so horrifyingly well. Constant hope spots from Danielson, fighting against as many odds as he could from Moxley, who was only focusing on Danielson's neck and head throughout the entire match, only for that submission at the end to suddenly destroy any hope for a miracle, and then to essentially attempt to kill Danielson in the middle of the ring. Wheeler Yuta's saddening betrayal with another bag spot, and that fucking curb stomp with the chair around his neck. I was so unsure about Moxley being the one to end Bryan's full time career, but shit, they fucking convinced me hard. Another great show from AEW who has been absolutely killing it with their PPVs, and I don't think the streak is gonna stop anytime soon."
[9.0] "AEW's ppv in 2024 never disappointed, and this one went also surprisingly good. Beginning of the card was splendid : Page/White is one of the best opening match for an AEW ppv (considering that booking great openers is not what they are the best at), MJF and Cole come back segment was exciting, and the 3 way became one of the best match of the year. As often tho, middle of the card was kinda underwhelming : 2 out 3 falls was predictable, Allin/King wasn't that great and the tag match was pretty boring afterall. And as often too, end of the show delivered : great main event, great post match event. Wrestledream 2024 was a success because of all the storylines they created or brought back to life : DG/Perry, MJF/ Cole, Ospreay/Fletcher, Swerve/Shelton, this is an insane amount when you also consider Allin/Moxley + Jay White against either Christian or Page again."
[8.0] "A really good wrestling show, no doubt about that. Every single match was good. I will say that the show dragged in places, though. I was a bit disappointed that Lashley didn't turn up to end what was a really good non-wrestling segment, but that was on me. Some stuff didn't connect with me too much but that's on the booking and build more than the matches themselves. The main event was very good and the finish was great, evoking the shock and deflation of the end of the Undertaker's streak. The post-match was effective but would've been even more effective if a) they hadn't already done the plastic bag spot a few weeks ago, from which Danielson returned in a couple of weeks, and b) Nigel McGuinness had got involved to try and help Danielson. AEW is a really mixed bag at the moment but the PPVs almost always deliver."
[9.0] "A rare PPV where every single match on the main card was very good or great! On top of that a memorable show because of the spectacular 3-way match between Ospreay, Ricochet, & Takeshita as well as Bryan Danielson's last match as a full time wrestler. The main event felt like a fight and Bryan gave everything he had. The post-match angle setup Moxley and his crew as the new big bads of AEW."
[8.0] "The Elite and Jericho continue to be the low points of these PPVs having the weakest matches of the card though I will say for this one none of those 3 matches were bad just average. It is kind of disappointing have Danielson lose to Moxley instead of having his reign end with the elevation of a younger talent, but the aftermath was done pretty well. Adam Page continues the run of trying to have the best match of the night while being beaten by Danielson and O'Spreays matches only. The other 3 matches were a step belows though but solid matches. Overall I'll give an 8.5 for this show."
[9.0] "A near flawless show without bad matches and one of the best endings in the company's history. I actually went dead silent for like 10/15 minutes after watching Bryan get murdered so this can't get anything below 9 in my eyes. Hangman vs. White was a fantastic opening match. Jay as babyface isn't my cup of tea but him and Hangman are two of the finest storytellers and performers out there. Perfect way to kickoff the show. Mariah vs. Willow was really good. Mariah's best title defense and Willow continues to prove she's world champ material. Would've loved if they were given a few more minutes. Shibata vs. Perry was the weakest match of the night and it was still a fine match. The highlight was clearly on the post-match angle. Daniel Garcia confronted Jack Perry but got attacked by a returning MJF. Then MJF was about to hit Garcia with the ring but Adam Cole made his return and MJF left. This set-up two matches in the near future perfectly. Oh and I know that Cole as a face and Max as a heel doesn't make sense but can we please forget that the Devil storyline ever happened? Three way match was my favorite match of the night, in terms of in-ring action. Just one of the best three way matches of all time with Takeshita getting his big win. Fletcher turning on Ospreay was predictable but I can't wait to see them go at it. Swerve/MVP angle was really good. Perfecly sets-up Lashley arrival and I actually loved Swerve giving Shelton his flowers. It could've been done on Dynamite to be fair but I get they wanted Swerve to appear in front of his people in his hometown. Mortos vs. Hologram was good but the crowd was burned out and the match suffered from it. Darby vs. Brody was great. Those have amazing chemistry. PP vs. YB was really good but, once again, the crowd wasn't feeling it and I understand considering they were hot throughout the whole night. Jericho vs. Briscoe had no right being the co-main event but at least it was a fine match which was surprising considering how bad Jericho stinks. Moxley vs. Danielson was easily one of the best main events the company has ever put on. From an emotional point of view it's the best match of the night and one of the best matches of the year. In-ring action was great too. The ending of the show was just heartbreaking. I was angry as I was watching it but afterwards I just felt empty. Shit made me feel. Pro wrestling at its finest. AEW is at its best when Moxley's on top. THANK YOU, BRYAN. Simpy the GOAT. Overall: there were no bad matches on the show with multiple returns and an-all timer in the three way match and one of the saddest endings to a pro wrestling show ever."
"Strong PPV overall, excellent start, but I felt the pacing went a bit off the rails with the near 20 minute Swerve segment, which felt much more like a dynamite moment. Thanks to this disruption in pacing, the rest of the show had a much quieter crowd. That being said, the match quality as a whole was insanely good, the end angle was certainly divisive, which left a sour taste in some people's mouths. I personally felt the ending was very well done and they achieved what they set out to and sets up AEW well for future plans. I am left heartbroken, confused and intrigued to where they go from here."
[10.0] "Even with a polarizing ending (which was great in my view), I think this was another top of the shelf pay per view added to AEWs catalogue. Id argue its near the top of the list in my eyes. This is a rare wrestling show where I can say there was no bad match, nothing below a 6. Thats a difficult feat and should be applauded. The show also featured significant returns and an all time, haunting PPV ending. Best matches were Jay White/Adam Page, Willow/Mariah, Ospreay/Ricochet/Takeshita, Darby/Brody and Moxley Danielson. Another truly great AEW pay per view."
[9.0] "I feel like complete shit, and everything is empty inside. So, you know, A+, no notes. There really wasn't a bad match on the card, and even Mark Briscoe was able to drag Chris Jericho to a "you know, it was okay" rating. The right people won every match, and I hate to say this as a Danielson fangirl, that includes Mox. Look, it's really fucking hard to get heat on someone like Mox in AEW, because even when he's presented as a heel, he's the epitome of the "cool" heel, so something like the Danielson program, where he ruins everything and puts tears in the eyes of children, is what's needed to drive it home. Yes, the show ended on the bleakest note possible. But here's the thing: wrestling fans have been circle-jerking themselves silly over meme phrases like "cinema" for the past few years, but the second a promotion goes for what is a tried and tested Empire Strikes Back-style ending, y'all don't want to know about it. Maybe because if they do, they have to give up the "AEW doesn't have stories" security blanket they love to cling to as they listen to bitter old men shouting at clouds. We knew in our heads this was coming, but our hearts got the better of us. But it's always darkest just before the dawn: whoever dethrones Mox will be the biggest babyface on the planet; and if Danielson does come back for his pound of flesh, we know his revenge will be served coldly and gloriously. Yes, it's depressing that Danielson's full-time career is over, but the man deserves to rest after getting his flowers, and we all know he can't stay away entirely. But if this is the full stop at the end of Danielson's career, we can at least take solace in the fact that this is exactly the way he'd want to end it. Rest up well, Bryan. We hope to see you back before too long."
[4.0] "One of the weakest PPVs in AEW to date. A few duds, a lot of mediocre to good matches that felt like they belonged more on TV than PPV, but no true MOTY-quality standouts, and the only match on the card that felt like it really mattered going in -- the main event -- was a disaster. It will take incredible storytelling to fix that self-inflicted wound. I wouldn't quite call it a bad show, but it certainly wasn't a good one."
[9.0] "This was a solid event all around with no bad matches whatsoever. I thought every single match was either decent, good, or amazing. There were many returns I was happy about especially the return of Adam Cole. I thought the Triple Threat Match was the Match of the Night. But the moment of the night is the after match chaos that ensued with Jon Moxley, and others beating down Bryan Danielson and cracking his neck. But overall great event from top to bottom. I think this Wednesday Dynamite is gonna be very interesting to say the least..."
