[3.0] "This event is widely regarded as the consensus pick for the worst ECW PPV ever, and it earns that distinction through a perfect storm of uninspired booking, mismatched styles, and an overall lack of creative spark. The main event Snow-Douglas match, in particular, felt like a blatant insult to an audience that had invested heavily in Snow's rise, only to be rewarded with interference-heavy chaos and a deflating finish. To Heyman's credit, he pivoted after this disaster, bringing in Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka to inject desperately needed energy and identity back into the product. But judged on its own merit, this show is a slog; directionless, flat, and emblematic of ECW's late-era creative exhaustion. Strong recommendation to avoid."

Injuries and overbooking hurt most matches, with New Jack vs. Bam Bam and RVD vs. Sabu standing out for all the wrong reasons, though Credible vs. Whipwreck and Douglas vs. Snow offer some redeeming moments. High spots from heavyweights are rare and notable, but overall, this PPV feels sloppy and underwhelming, making it one of ECW's weaker PPVs."

[0.0] "Just about every single match here was bad with all of them being nothing more than bad and generic brawls, with New Jack Vs Bam Bam being the worst and an absolute stinker, they all did nothing to further any of their ongoing storylines which were just as bad and the booking was also bad with RVD vs Sabu going a half an hour and Douglas beating Snow over the ECW World Title. Overall ECW Wrestlepalooza (1998) is a terrible show and the worst PPV from the OG ECW."

[3.0] "It didn't start too bad, especially comparing to most of ECW shows, but then degenaration started happening and we got back to garbage that ECW got everybody used to. The only things worth the time were a nicely done grudge match between Credible and Whipwreck, plus Candido with Storm got a pretty decent match out of Rotten and Mahoney, but everything else either sucked ass or was just average. Poor Guido and Smothers had to put up with Meanie's and Nova's silliness, New Jack almost killed himself numerous times, Sandman & Dreamer vs The Dudleys was a chaotic mess and RVD delivered maybe the worst match of his career, producing an absolute trash of a bout against Sabu. And the main event wasn't even that bad, as Douglas always strives to put on some normal wrestling, but I didn't have the energy at this point, plus it's not like they tore the house down. So not surprised by the quality of this show, just what I expected from Heyman's injury machine."

[6.0] "Not sure what most people expect from ECW shows, this was my second full-show viewing after Guilty As Charged 2001 and I thought it was great. Not overall great matches, nothing perfect, and yes, lots of overbooking, but individual performances on this show were a unique highlight. - Super Nova in the opener was exceptional. - Mikey Whipwreck put on a world-class performance - tag title match was solid overall with an especially good lazy-on-purpose act from Candido - at least the right man went over in Bigelow/New Jack - the booking of Dreamer+Sandman/Dudleyz was actually good, with it almost being a six-man including Big Dick's interference and a valiant effort from Spike - RVD/Sabu was a brutally realistic and ugly brawl with lots of highspots thrown in. This wasn't pretty, but I don't know how you can expect anything pretty from Sabu, who is probably the best wrestler on a show with great wrestlers - Shane Douglas puts on a great one-armed performance and Al Snow was a great determinate brawler; people probably want more from an ECW main-event but it seems like the fans loved what they were seeing - PLUS, with the exception of Nova, Mikey, and Spike everyone doing the highflying on this show were heavyweights and you basically never get to see that anywhere else (I'm gonna say New Jack's balconey dive doesn't even count, but Balls Mahoney, Axel Rotten, Tommy Dreamer, Sandman, Sabu, and RVD all did some over-the-top-rope offensive maneuvers that looked and landed great)"

[3.0] "The absolute worst ECW PPV in my watching of them so far (minus Barely Legal and some others for the moment). Many guys were injured on the show, so matches were adjusted to what they could still physically do, and no doubt further guys were injured on this show, as more & more matches are incorporating Hardcore & dangerous elements to them. This show also had a large amount of storylines to the matches, which didn't help what they were going for with them in my opinion. Just feels very much a show where you don't get your money's worth. Whipwreck/Credible & RVD/Sabu are the only things worth tuning in for, but otherwise this is a completely skippable PPV."

[2.0] "This was, in its best moments, a dull show. Bruce Prichard once said that ECW could come across as cool and exciting on TV, with the fast-paced, medley/music video style of Hardcore TV, but was left completely exposed by the long form and uncut matches of the PPV format. This was the kind of thing he meant, and I agree with him. Most of the matches were just sloppy and hard to watch, and the 30 minute match between RVD and Sabu bored me to death. ECW was capable of better, and they would prove that later in the year, but this show was ECW at its dirt worst. One point for a decent build, one point for trotting out some Georgia oldtimers (and I'm being generous here), zero points for anything else."

[2.0] "Another bad event from ECW. It started off on the wrong foot as Super Nova, The Blue Meanie, Tracy Smothers, and Tommy Rich all competed for the World Look Ever in the opener. It didn't pick up much from there, with Justin Credible, Mikey Whipwreck, New Jack, Sandman, Dreamer, etc. doing their best to out-suck the others."

[4.0] "Not one of ECW's finer moments, Wrestlepalooza '98 nonetheless featured a handful of highlights, notably a solid Douglas-Snow main event match and a 30-minute Broadway between RVD and Sabu for the TV Title. The Tag Title match and Dudleys vs. Dreamer/Sandman were also OK. There was a lot of overbooking throughout the show, to be sure, but it maintained a reasonably entertaining pace. Not nearly as good as the Heat Wave '98 show that would be held just a few months later, but alright overall."
