There are several names from the golden age of MMA, before it became financially successful and spiritually dead, but a lot of the matches feel undercooked and without stories. The best real fights have stories which leap off of the screen at you, as do the best shoot-style pro wrestling matches. The entire point of the latter is that you can have full control and make those stories happen. That aspect is something pro wrestling can promise and which MMA can't. Save from a few matches and moments, this didn't feel that way to me. Konami vs Fukuda had a classic striker vs grappler story and that made it one of the best matches of the night. Sakuraba vs Marella had the classic Sakuraba comeback, but does it need to come after ten minutes of not-so-interesting smothering? In pro wrestling you can do more to make that stuff exciting. The positive side is that most matches are fairly short but many also felt like undistinctive 50/50 grappling which ends in someone snapping up a leglock. |

Hideki vs. Dato war okay, Hammer vs. Nomura okay aber schon sehr kurz und schade, dass man Nomura nicht mehr gegeben hat. Fukuda vs. Konami war sehr ordentlich, auch wenn Konami teilweise etwas mit dem Stil gefremdelt hat. Smith vs. Funaki solide und Jackson vs. Sekine irgendwie weird. Fand, dass Jackson hier nicht so reingepasst hat und er hat es nach dem Match auch sehr eilig die ganzen Klamotten seiner Sponsoren anzuziehen. Danach wurde es aber richtig gut, Santino Marella vs. Sakuraba fand ich super und irgendwie sehr schön, Santino mal in dieser Rolle zu sehen, die er ja definitiv ausfüllen kann, zweitbestes Match der Show. I'd love to see some other guys the next time: Daniel e Rolles Gracie (Daniel was the better one back on their NJPW tour in 2014, but in this kind of environment Rolles would do some good shit), Blue Panther, Zack Sabre Jr, Bryan Danielson, Junior Cigano (he did pretty good at AEW in 2021) and some others. |

Suzuki gegen Sato fand ich dann solide, Nomura gegen Hammer war für mich wahrscheinlich das schwächste Match der Show aber Konami gegen Fukuda danach war dann echt anständig wie ich finde. Funaki gegen DBSJ war ein solides Match und Sekine gegen Jackson danach war schon ein unterhaltsames Freakmatch. Dann kam aber die echt starke Phase der Show. Abseits vom Co ME waren alle andere Matches ab dann mindestens echt gut. Sakuraba gegen Marella war schon richtig gut (vielleicht etwas lang), Suzuki gegen Thatcher war genau das, was ich mir erwartet hatte und das ME war dann wirklich sehr gut und das MOTN. Das war eine wirklich tolle Schlacht. Insgesamt war das meiner Ansicht nach eine echt gute (wenn auch besonders mit der Anfangsphase nicht sehr gute) Show, welche 8 Punkte verdient. |

In this one even the under 5-minute matches were really good, Abe and Nomura were made for this event, and they need to be in bigger matches in future editions. Sakuraba vs Marella and Suzuki vs Thatcher were both really awesome matches, where I had an incredible time watching it, and the main event was equally great, but with a lot more of complexity, details and mixed feelings, how a long and good main event should always be. Congrats to Barnett and everyone involved for this fantastic event. |

Fuminori Abe vs Yu Iizuka: A short but direct to the point match to get Bloodsport Bushido started off, Abe getting the win by submission was good to see [**]. Hideki Suzuki vs Hikaru Sato: A decent match where both gave a solid performance, Suzuki getting the win here was good to see [**1/4]. Erik Hammer vs Takuya Nomura: Hammer was dominant for the most part, there were a couple of spills out to the ringside floor, Hammer winning with a powerbomb via TKO was surprising to see [**]. Konami vs Maya Fukuda: A solid women's division match with both giving a solid performance and Konami submitting Fukuda was interesting to see [**]. Masakatsu Funaki vs Davey Boy Smith Jr: Both in this one gave a watch worthy performance, Funaki winning was a surprise as was rooting for DBS Jr to win [***]. Quntion Jackson vs Hideki Sekine: Jackson dominated most of the match, with the win being by TKO, good to see Jackson back in a pro wrestling ring after almost 11 years [**1/4]. Kazushi Sakuraba vs Santino Marella: A really good match between these two, Marella treated this like it was a bucket list match, showed the crowd he can adapt to any style of fighting and Sakuraba winning was surprising to see [***1/2]. Minoru Suzuki vs Timothy Thatcher: Suzuki walked into Ryogoku so tepidly that he didnt even get much fan reaction especially when it came to chanting Kaze Ni Nare, Thatcher had some facial expressions throughout the match that did go a bit over the top slightly though the fight was enjoyable to watch [***1/4]. Hideki Suzuki vs Erik Hammer: Hammer losing his first match under the Bloodsport banner was surprising to see, they had a great fight even though it was their second of the night [***]. Jon Moxley vs Josh Barnett: Great mat work, great technical work, great striking made this one of the best Bloodsport matches I've seen, Mox being busted open made sense in a match like this, the storytelling here was on point especially when Mox beat Barnett considering 3 years ago Barnett beat Mox in Bloodsport [****1/2] |
