The buy in started things off hot with a much anticipated debut of Maki Itoh in what was a fun and fast paced match worthy of being an opener. Once we get to the PPV we get the "real" opener with the Bucks vs. MJF & Jericho in what was a sloppily paced spotfest. It was enjoyable for what it was as a match to get the crowd excited, but not much more than that. If I really had to give it a number I'd say 6/10 enjoyable, but nothing worth going out of your way to see; unless you really dig the wrestlers involved. This was followed up with a real boring battle royale that much like all BRs went on for too long. The final stretch was decent and Death Triangle coming out on top was nice, but this was far from a good BR. Ryo vs. Shida was the MOTN without considering any asterisks (The last two matches). The two went out and had a very well structured Japanese style title match. If you like those you'll like this match. Hard hitting, built very well up to it's climax. The only problem here is once again American audiences (who aren't familiar with puro) have no idea how to react to this sort of match. But at this point crowds are a completely moot point in this era anyway. This was a solid 7. 5 to 8/10. THE GAMERS vs. Chuckie T & OC was a downright terrible match. I couldn't tell if it wanted to be comedy or serious. This was easily the worst showing of OC and the best friends in general. Just an absolute horror show of a match. badly paced and structured, OC not selling a injury after selling it, just bad. This is the match to actively avoid if you watch this card. Matt vs. Page was an okay match. At this point in Matt's career he just can't go so hangman did his best to do a carry job and what you are left with is an average match. Worth a dynamite main event? Maybe. Not a PPV quality match imo. TNT title ladder match was pretty mediocre for a ladder match. It lacked creativity. It felt like they looked at the card saw it was weak and just tacked this on without any proper planning in advanced. Very bland for a ladder match without any real cool highspots or sequences at which point why bother. Time for failed Sky push number 3. Next we have the first of the asterisk matches of the night Team Taz vs. Dobby & Sting. This is the best take on a cinematic match I have seen bar none. Very entertaining, but wow does the commentary ruin it for me. I don't like comparing these types of matches to normal wrestling matches, but I would say go watch this one it's pretty good especially if you like cinematic matches. Lastly, the elephant in the room Omega vs. Moxley. This match was really good. Great job building up tension to the first explosion, entertaining ring work and spots. The actual match was very good, arguably a MOTYC. Until we get to the end. A screwjob finish with the good brothers and then the awful explosion. Just absolutely deflating what a blunder. |

The battle royale was one of the best battle royales Aew has ever done with a beautiful final strech between Jungle Boy and Fenix. Shida vs. Mizunami was the match of the night and one of the best Aew women's matches of all time. Cassidy & Taylor vs. Miro & Sabian was an angle rather than an actual match and it wasn't very good. Hardy vs. Page was alright but pretty forgettable. The face of the revolution wasn't as bad as people say but it wasn't a great ladder match either, many things didn't work very well and the match was forgettable with also the worst outcome possible. Sting & Allin vs. Team Taz was a good cinematic match. Moxley vs. Omega was a very good main event with many great moments and spots that will unfortunately be remembered just for the shitty post-match. Overall: not the best Aew show but far from being a bad show despite the awful ending. |

But AEW failed miserably and lost probably alot of fans and alot of credibility. It was one of the worst American PPVs that I've seen in recent years. There is no reason to watch this shit-show. Even the best match - Adam Page vs. Matt Hardy - was a match, that was just TV quality. The second best match, with the stupid gimmick, the main event between Omega and wanna-be Stone Cold, Moxley will always be remembered by one of the most laughable endings in wrestling history, which destroyed all illusion or kayfabe. Even more embarrassing was the oversell by Eddie Kingston and the commentary team. The only defense I have for them, is that they went with the script, but honestly they should've improvised telling a different story, that they (Kingston and Moxley) were lucky that the "explosions" gave up and went silent. But what can you expect from some wrestlers? If I was Tony, I would fire the whole production crew responsible for that. Also, nobody recogniszed Christina Cage's TNA theme, that was something....laughable aswell. I can just image Christian probably fainted backstage as he thought he was not going to be anticipated by the little crowd in the Daily's Place. To his and our fortune that was not the case. Conclusion: Skip this whole damn show, for your own good! |

Der Opener und die Damen sind schon ziemlich in Ordnung, wohingegen das Casino Royale, das Tag-Match rund um OC und der cineastisch inszenierte Streetfight mal so gar nicht nach meinem Geschmack sind. Auch das Ladder-Match ist eine mittelschwere Enttäuschung, aber immerhin ist die Partie zwischen Hardy und Page noch relativ okay. Das Hauptmatch wäre deutlich interessanter gewesen, wenn man Qualm und Funkenflug komplett rausgelassen hätte, wobei noch anzumerken ist, dass der Nachlauf mit Countdown und Scheinexplosionen hochgradig lächerlich ist, denn dagegen wirkt jede WCW/WWE Entrancepyro bedrohlicher. Und Eddie Kingston haut das glatt ins Koma? Fünf Punkte und einen mittelschwer enttäuschten Gesichtsausdruck gibt's heute von mir. |

Grade mit dem AEW World Championship Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match Main Event hatte man ein Match zum Abschluss, auf das man sich definitiv freuen konnte und gespannt sein konnte wie es in der Umsetzung aussehen wird. Dazu später dann mehr. Ich fange mal mit dem Opener an. Young Bucks vs. Jericho + MJF war ein Gutes Match, auch wenn Chris Jericho und MJF, nicht grade wirklich das Tag Team sind auf das die Bucks sonst immer treffen. Grade auch weil dir beiden eigentlich kein Richtiges Tag Team sind. Trotzdem war es hier ein Gutes Match (****). Das Casino Tag Team Royal Match war dann auch Gut. Hatte die ganze Zeit darauf gehofft und richtig mit gefiebert, dass Rey Fenix hier sich den Sieg holen kann und zum Glück konnte er es auch (****). Hikaru Shida vs. Ryo Mizunami war auch stark. Auch der Hintergrund der Fehde und ihre Matches in Japan wurden gut aufgegriffen und man hatte einen guten Roten Faden innerhalb der Storyline der beiden (****). Tag Team Match danach Grotten Schlecht und die Fehde interessiert mich eigentlich auch null. Miro im Tag Team mit Kip Sabian ist Totale Zeit Verschwendung und dieses "Best Man" Gimmick von Miro genauso. Matt Hardy vs. Adam Page war Inordnung. Eine kleine Fehde zwischen den beiden die hakt einfach nur zum Füllen der Card da gewesen ist (***1/4). Auf das "Face Of The Revolution" Ladder Match hatte ich mich dann Richtig gefreut und es war eins der Matches die mich auf die Show Gehyped hatten. Generell die letzten 3 Matches sollten Bombe werden. Das Ladder Match war dann nur "Inordnung" leider. Mir haben die geiles Spots mit dem "Wow" Effekt gefehlt (***1/4). Kurz und knapp zur Verpflichtung von Christian Cage: GENIAL! Einfach nur schön Christian wieder zurück im Ring zusehen und ich freue mich auf sein Debut Match Bei All Elite Wrestling. Tag Team Street Fight zwischen Darby Allin + Sting vs. Team Taz (Brian Cage & Ricky Starks) war ein Fantastisches Cineastisches Match! Genau sowas will ich sehen, wenn man ein Match im Cineastischen Stil macht (****1/2). Main Event dann bis auf die Exploding Botches eigentlich ein wirklich gutes Match, was Ich gerne öfters bei AEW sehen würde. Das Problem ist hier nur, dass die meisten Main Stream Wrestling Fans Death Matches nicht brauchen und dadurch auch viele etwas Skeptisch dieser Match Art hingegen sind. Trotzdem muss man auch extreme Probs an Kenny Omega aussprechen, der einfach jede Wrestling Richtung gehen kann. Die Explosion am Ende war natürlich lächerlich und bin gespannt wie sie es in den Dynamite Show's erläutern werden. Match war trotzdem wie gesagt gut (****1/2). Insgesamt wiedermal ein Guter PPV von All Elite Wrestling. Wäre auch Mittlerweile komisch wenn AEW einen "Schlechten" PPV bringen würde. |

Beyond the ring, Team Taz and the Hoodlums had a really fun "street fight" that I won't describe here now because it's unreal and you should watch it right now. The final four of the battle royal was a fun little time too. I really think you could build a legit company around Pac, Fenix, John Silver and Jungle Boy. Talk about 4 guys who could tear it up conceivably for the next ten years at least if they wanted to. Now, the bad. To this day, AEW still is INCAPABLE of having a halfway decent battle royal. This one is probably the best they've done up to this point but it was still stankin up until the final four. Speaking of stankin, the opener sucked man. I don't wanna be a hater but I don't need to see MJF and Jericho in the same ring again for the rest of my life. The Bucks as faces worked fine at Full Gear because they were against super heels FTR, but a weak team like MJF and Jericho couldn't bring the fire out. I guess the consensus on twitter is that gamer Miro was needed before we get cool Catholic Miro, but that doesn't make this Miro any less lame. They did do a pretty sweet beatdown on the Best Friends (sans Trent) and if that was it, I would have been happy with that. They had a match afterwards though and I didn't care. Oh yeah and a ladder match happened or something who cares. This show was very eh, Check out the Womens Match and Hoodlum match and throw the rest of the show in a big ol trash can where the rest of the mediocre 2nd American Promotion shows behind WWE go |

Quantität und Qualität haben nicht unbedingt etwas miteinander zu tun, was hier mal wider bewiesen wurde. Opener war in Ordnung - auch wenn ich mir mehr erhofft hatte. Die Bucks verteidigen erfolgreich ihre Titel und der Inner Circle geht ins War Council (***1/4). Als nächstes werden sie wohl gegen Rey Fenix und PAC antreten. Dies dürfte spaßig werden. Aber das wäre es auch gewesen, wenn man auf eine 15-Teams Battle Royal verzichtet hätte. Zudem ziegte sich hier, dass AEW in der Breite weiterhin nicht ind er Lage ist, ihren eigenen Ansprüchen gerecht zu werden. Zeitweise hatte ich das Gefühl, dass sie den Hausmeister und Kabelträger ins Match gepackt hatten, nur um 15 Teams voll zu kriegen (**). Das Damen-Match war das Match of the Night. Allerdings mit dem Wermutstropfen, dass man trotz eines (ebenfalls völlig übertriebenen) internationalen Turnieres um die Herausforderin zu krönen, hier dennoch keinen Titelwechsel bekam (***1/4). Miro/Sabian vs. Cassidy/Taylor war solide (**1/4). Page und Hardy lieferten gut ab und hatten das Potential das beste Match des Abends zu werden - aber das wäre nur ohne Eingriffe von außen möglich gewesen. So blieb irgendwie ein fader Nachgeschmack. Jedenfalls ist Page nun wohl endgültig ein Mitglied der Dark Order (***1/4). Nachdem man nun schon praktisch das gesamte Roster in Matches hatte schickte man noch übrig gebliebene aus der zweiten und dritten Liga in ein Ladder Match um mal wieder (Überraschung) einen Nr. 1 Herausforderer auszukämpfen. Eigentlich machen Ladder Matches immer Spaß, doch diese Worker nahmen einem vieles. Zudem kommt, dass man beim Debüt von Ethan Page eine Stecknadel hätte fallen hören können. Die gezeigte Action und das relativ überraschende Ende bringen **1/2. Dann kam Christin Cage raus um einen AEW Vertrag zu unterschreiben. Tat das, grinste blöd und verschwand wieder. Hatte wohl nix dazu zu sagen. Vielleicht hatte man aufgrund der vielen Qualitätsmatches auch einfach keine Zeit mehr dafür. Ja, AEW weiß eben, wie man sich selbst um tolle Momente bringt. Dann kamen die Main Events. Der Street Fight war eher das Ende aus einem schlechten Street Fighter Film und das Titelmatch ein uninspirierter Gewaltporno, den selbst Quentin Tarantino als deplatziert abgelehnt hätte. Vergelichsweise ordentlichen Ringleistungen stehen viel zu viele Matches, der verschwendete Cage-Auftritt und eine enttäuschende Top-Card gegenüber. Da reicht es nur zu 4 Punkten. Bei AEW sollte man sich Fragen, ob man seine beiden Main Events eines PPV's, für den Fans zahlen müssen, wirklich mit zwei Nicht-Wrestling Matches bestücken sollte. Wer findet das unterhaltsam? Und wenn die Mehrheit der AEW das gut finden sollte - was sagt das eigentlich über die Liga AEW aus? |

| 84 | 14.08.2021 | Telecine | 7.0 | Die ersten beiden Matches haben mir sehr gut gefallen, so dass ich dachte, die Show ist auf dem Weg zu einer richtig hohen Wertung. Danach flacht sie aber ein bisschen ab und speziell Hangman Page gegen Matt Hardy, das Ladder Match und das Tag Team Match zwischen Kip Sabian, Miro, Orange Cassidy und Chuckie T sind ziemliche Durchschnittsware. Das Cinematic Match zwischen Sting, Darby Allin, Brian Cage und Ricky Starks war eines der besseren Cinematic Matches, jedoch hätte ich hier sogar ein normales Tag Team Match bevorzugt. Wahrscheinlich gibt es gewisse Einschränkungen, die man mit Sting in Kauf nehmen muss, aber dennoch gibt es meines Erachtens mehr Interesse an einem "normalen" Sting-Match als an einem Brawl in einer verlassenen Fabrik, die sich die Arena-Zuschauer auch nur auf dem Bildschirm ansehen können. Das Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match zwischen Omega und Moxley im Main Event war für mich dann schon eine Enttäuschung. Ich hätte mir hier eher eine Art Sprint gewünscht, in dem wir einen wilden Brawl mit abgedrehten Explosionen und Shit zu sehen kriegen, als ein 25-Minüter, der speziell zu Beginn eher einschläfernd wirkt. Die Schlussszene, in der offenbar die Pyros nicht zünden, als eigentlich die größte Explosion des Abends zu sehen sein sollte, ist dann wirklich bedauernswert. Da es so offensichtlich eine Panne ist, kann man da nicht wirklich Kritik äußern, schließlich war es anders geplant. Aber es ist einfach ein miserabler Moment, als die große Countdown-Uhr auf Null fällt und dann nur ein paar Funken-Fontänen und zwei kleine Puffs zu sehen sind und Eddie Kingston und Jon Moxley im Ring im Grunde Tod sellen müssen. Mit diesem Spot hat man sich offenbar verzockt und hat verloren. Es hätte ein epischer Moment werden können, wurde aber stattdessen einer der epischsten Fehlschläge der letzten 15 Jahre. |
