Yet again, as typical of this era of NJPW, we get another bloated main event with all the requisite stalling until the last five minutes or so. Perhaps the nadir of this event is the English commentary speculating about how many Meltzer stars Okada and Naito are gonna get before the match starts. There aren't any matches that are truly abysmal but everything feels hollow. |

I must have watched it back a good 4 or 5 times since. The Okada/Naito was a solid classic. Jericho/Omega lived up to the hype and I loved seeing Jericho outside of WWE for a change. Suzuki/Goto is classic no one ever talks about. I loved it. The whole show in general was very solid. A great show all round. |

Das war durch und durch eine bärenstarke Veranstaltung, bei dem selbst das schlechteste Match in den vollen fünf Stunden noch ziemlich gut war. Der Opener war gleich ein richtig tolles Match und das folgende Match auch noch gut, obwohl es das schlechteste Match sein sollte. Ibushi vs. Cody war dann sogar nochmal ein bisschen besser und gegen Ende richtig stark. Killer Elite Squad zeigen eines ihrer besten Matches gegen Sanada und EVIL und auch Suzuki und Goto überzeugen richtig in ihrere Schlacht um die Frisur. Das Junior Match war absolut verrückt mit dem richtigen Sieger. Ospreay war hier schon ein absoluter Star. White zeigte ein sauberes Debüt gegen Tanahashi, auch wenn die Erwartungen hier wahrscheinlich unglaublich hoch waren. Es ist jedoch quatsch von jedem Gedo-sprössling zu denken, dass er ein einmaliges Talent wie Okada ist. Jericho vs. Omega war dann eine sehr positive Überraschung an diesem Abend und das MOTN bis zu dem Main Event. Jericho haute hier nochmal richtig einen raus und Omega zeigte ebenfalls einer seiner besten Leistungen. Der Main Event war dann auf einem sehr ähnlichen Niveau und das beste Match des Abends, aber nicht ganz der Klassiker, den viele hier erwartet hatten. Vor allem war bei den Naito Fans hier die Enttäuschung sehr groß. Das Match hatte jedoch eine fabelhafte Dramatik und Okada als Sieger überrascht mich bei Gedo und seinem Booking nicht unbedingt. Alles in allem hatte die Veranstaltung nicht eine schlechte Phase und vor allem die 2. Hälfte hatte mit die besten Matches des Jahres. Wenn man alles zusammen bewertet und nicht nur auf das Ende achtet ergibt sich hier für mich einer der besten Veranstaltung, die ich gesehen habe. Rückblickend vielleicht sogar noch wertvoller, da die Naito-Geschichte 2 Jahre später abgeschlossen wurde. Pflichtwatch für jeden. |

Will Ospreay vs Marty Scurll vs Kushida vs Takahashi fand ich herrausragend und ich habe mich extrem unterhalten gefühlt *****. Tanahashi vs White eher enttäuschend ***. Kenny vs Chris fand ich sehr gut und ich war von Jerichos Leistung beeindruckt **** 3/4. Das Main Event hat auch überzeugt auch wenn es nicht ganz für 5 Sterne gereicht hat. Naito hat mir besonders gut gefallen **** 3/4. Insgesamt eine gute Veranstaltung. |

Everything from the tag team matches to the special singles match to the main titles were excellent. The Young Bucks and Roppongi 3k had a great tag team match to open the show. The match showed a new side to the Bucks and proved they could have a psychological match like their match at the G1 finals in 2017. Ibushi vs Cody didn't have a ton of moves but was great and had a big feel. Cody impressed me in the match. LIJ vs KES was awesome and this was the match that got me into KES. They were awesome as big men and properly dominated LIJ for most of the match. Goto vs Suzuki was awesome even compared to other NEVER openweight matches. The fatal four way for the IWGP JR heavyweight title is my pick for the best match on the show and my favorite. All four men were great but Scurll and especially Ospreay stood out in the match. I consider this the best fatal four way of all time. The IWGP IC title match was slow considering the match before but I really liked it. It was Jay White's first match back in NJPW and he didn't disappoint. I thought he was really awesome as a heel and controlled the match for a good amount. Tanahashi was great too and they put on a match worthy of the other ones. I originally didn't feel Jericho vs Omega was as great as it was touted but after a rewatch it was excellent. It really held up as an all time classic and was my second favorite on the show. The main event was the same way as the US title match but after a second watch was amazing too. It was quite worthy of being the main event and I loved it. it was the third best but that is not a slight compared to the others. The worst match was the NEVER openweight six man gauntlet. |

Opener der Main Show war das IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title Match und das war zum Einstieg in die Show Super (****). Gauntlet Match um den NEVER Openweight & Man Tag Team Title ganz Solide (***). Ibushi vs. Cody auch Gut (****). IWGP Tag Team Title Match meiner Meinung nach nicht in der Bewertungskala wie Meltzer. War meiner Meinung nach eher Schwach bis Solide. Auch so (***). NEVER Openweight Title Match war Super (****1/4). IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title Match Awesome. Was Ospreay für Moves raushaut ist unglaublich. Fande nur das Hiromu sehr in dem Match untergegangen ist (*****). Nehme mal direkt das IWGP US Title Match weil das für mich genau so Gut war wie das 4 Way Jr. Title Match. Jericho mal in einem NJPW Ring zusehen war einfach geil. Und die beiden haben einfach vom Entrance bis hin zum Finish alles gegeben und die leute in der Halle und von zuhause super unterhalten (*****). IWGP Intercontinental und IWGP Heavyweight Title Match beide (****). Hätte mir von beiden Matches etwas mehr erwartet. Fazit: Eine Guter WK PPV der aber Wrestle Kingdom 11 absolut nicht toppen konnte, da ich mir von manchen Matches halt wie schon gesgat etwas mehr vorgestellt habe. Match of the Night war für mich das IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title 4 Way Match. Wobei der Main Event auch nicht Schlecht wa, aber im gegensatz zum Main Event lezten Jahres kommt es auf keinen Fall ran. |

Beim Rambo war ich mir lange Zeit unsicher wo das hinführen soll, da alle die als Sieger in Frage kamen, relativ früh eliminiert wurden. Mit Kakihara, der die Takayamania bewarb, hat man sich aber was sehr schönes einfallen lassen. Starker Opener, gefolgt von einem kurzweiligen Gauntled Match. Cody mit seiner bis dahin vermutlich besten Leistung in einem guten Match gegen Ibushi, der einen krassen Spot auf den Hallenboden nimmt. Tag Title Match ebenfalls gut und es hat mich sehr gefreut für Evil und Sanada. Bei Goto vs. Suzuki weiß ich noch, dass es mich im Vorfeld überhaupt nicht interessiert hat. Umso bemerkenswerter, dass mich das Match durchgehend fesseln konnte und richtig gut war. Lustigerweise gewann Goto das Match, Suzuki stieg jedoch viel mehr auf, indem er den IC Title gewinnen durfte. Jay White mit einem ordentlichen Debut gegen Tanahashi. Die anderen 3 Matches sind auf allesamt bockstark, mehr jeweils im Guide. |
