[7.0] "Overall the show was good. It was mostly boring whenever Bret Hart wasn't involved, which either says a lot about him or very little about the rest of the roster on this card. Bret vs. Perfect is one of the better matches you'll see, and his matches with Razor and Bam Bam were good also. Title match was phoned in, tag team match ended way too early considering the talent and Luger vs Tatanka would've probably been better if it ended in a double countout after like 8 minutes instead of giving them 15 to do the same stuff over and over. Give it a watch for the Bret matches, everything else you can pretty much skip."

[8.0] "This was a good KOTR carried by two really good matches with Bret Hart. His first two matches were very good (vs razor and mr perfect). The finals didn't hit with me. I thought the false finish was really stupid for two reasons. 1) we already had one earlier in the night, and in the tournament. Luger/Tatanka running out of time for a draw was just dumb, but them hyping up the crowd as if there was going to be an extra 5 minutes and then nothing, I just don't get the point of that. then 2) the insanity of restarting the match after bret hart lost because he got hit with a chair. i mean just think about this. The guy got the shit knocked out of him, which is why he lost. So, give him the win by DQ, rigth? No, make the guy who just got nailed with a chair basically fight a 4th match? lol whatever. I think I'm the only person who enjoyed the perfect/hughes match. I am glad perfect won, and I thought huges looked the part that he was supposed to look. Ending that match with DQ was fine with me and made sense. I also enjoyed the WWF title match for what it was. So first off here, Hogan was RIGHT about WM9. You couldn't have yoko beat bret hart for the final match. It would end on such a sour note. You have to have some emotion invested somehow as a fan. While a small fraction of the crowd loves bret, it's nothing like their love for hogan. And at WM9, people didn't hate Yoko enough. Also, there was absolutely no build up. Hogan was right to call for a different ending to the night. As for this match, the fans are ALWAYS and always have been, more invested in seeing hogan succeed than hart. Also, we've gotten more yoko being a bad guy over the last few months. Third, while there wasn't much build up for this match over the last 3 months, at least this match has a re-match feel to it. Fourth, there were some interesting stories within the match... like hogan trying multiple times to slam yoko, which he never did. Plus the unique way that Hogan lost was cool to me. I thought the commentary was great. I do not like vince on commentary and considering how new JR is to this crew, he's really mixed well with savage and heenan. Savage is really fun. If I bought this PPV back in the day I wouldn't have been disappointed."

[6.0] "King of the Ring 1993 is a chaotic and uneven show, but it's undeniably carried on the back of Bret Hart, who delivers two standout performances and almost single-handedly saves the event from mediocrity. The opening match between Bret and Razor Ramon is solid, with Razor's gimmick slowly growing more appealing (I only just now noticed the razor-themed tights), though it does lose some momentum midway through. Mr. Hughes vs. Mr. Perfect is the opposite of that--an abysmal match that raises the baffling question of why Hughes was even booked for a PPV. Perfect tries, but there's only so much he can do with a lumbering goon (touch grass! ) and a DQ finish. Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Jim Duggan doesn't fare much better; Duggan's tired "USA" shtick drags everything down, though the fantasy of Bam Bam torching an American flag mid-ring might've made it more interesting. Tatanka vs. Lex Luger is a clunky affair, with Lex completely no-selling the armwork (clotheslined with his damaged arm) and nearly knocking himself out with a kick--Tatanka clearly carried this one. Thankfully, things pick up dramatically with Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect, a technical classic loaded with great execution, smart psychology, and even some unexpected athleticism from the ref when he leaped over the boys. This is the best match of the year so far and an instant classic for both men. Hogan vs. Yokozuna brings the patriotism hard and heavy--it's cheap heat at its laziest, though the ending is a welcome surprise given Hogan's ego. Still, it's a middling match between two mid-tier wrestlers. The 8-man tag match is serviceable but ultimately pointless, with no stakes and a thrown-together feel that makes it hard to care. Shawn Michaels vs. Crush is Crush's best showing to date, though that bar's low--Doink's interference is silly, and while Shawn usually delivers, this is a weak outing from him. Bret's final match against Bam Bam Bigelow closes things on a high note, with Hart taking a beating like a champ and Luna Vachon running in like a goblin for a hilarious chair shot. The false finish with Bam Bam's DQ reversal is awkward, but the match recovers, and Bret's victory feels earned--though rather short lived thanks to Jerry "The King" Lawler. Overall: A inconsistent PPV with too many throwaway matches and booking misfires, but Bret Hart puts on a show that justifies the watch. Without Hart, Perfect, and Bam Bam, this show would've been a total write-off."

[5.0] "My rating for King Of The Ring 1993 (inaugural as a Pay Per View) it's a 5/10. I personally think that for a event to be good and a good note or rating it's good matches, and here only 3 carried the whole note or rating, and all of them were about Bret Hart, who gets a 10/10 on this event after 3 amazing matches and new king, but the rest were forgettables matches, and Hogan politics to look strong as Yokozuna defeats him with the Japanese photographer and then the Shawn Michaels match that stays in the middle not good or bad. 5/10"

[5.0] "This show was built around Bret Hart's story of beating three opponents to become King of the Ring, which had two good matches and a somewhat disappointing third. If those three matches had been the whole event, it would've been a much better show, as the rest of the action ranged from average to poor to bad, the lowlight being Hogan vs Yokozuna."

[5.0] ""I barely give this PPV a passing grade, as I had much higher expectations. I think there were matches I expected a lot more from, like Hart vs. Mr. Perfect, which had a lot of hype behind it due to their names, and the final, where I felt the pacing was very slow--probably caused by Hart having three matches in one night. Also, the tag team match was very weak, and the title defenses--especially the Intercontinental Title match--were pretty lackluster for championship bouts on a PPV."

[8.0] "The first King of the Ring was a PPV I watched many times over the years, as it was surreal seeing Jerry Lawler in the WWF attacking Bret Hart for calling himself King. The Bret/Mr. Perfect match was the match of the night for me and it was bittersweet saying goodbye to Hulk Hogan in his last PPV match in the WWF for almost a decade. Landmark PPV for a changing of the guard."

[9.0] "This PPV has a special place for me, since it was the first PPV I watched live, rather than on tape. I love that Bret's story is the focus for this PPV, and each of Bret's matches are phenomenal too. Luger/Tatanka is better than expected. And even though it was short, I enjoyed Bigelow/Duggan too. Hogan/Yoko isn't as bad as the rating suggests, but it's certainly not one to watch for the workrate; it's more of a spectacle. We really needed a Steiners tag team match to put this show over the top (preferably with Money Inc. for the titles), and I'm sorry but the woefully short 8-man tag just didn't cut it."

[8.0] "This is a shockingly really good PPV for this time period, and a solid rebound after Mania 9. A really good first edition of the King of the Ring PPV; which of course would go on to be an annual event through until 2002. Bret was really deserving of the honour at the time, and gave the title real credibility on the PPV format right away. Bret was easily the MVP of this show; having three great performances in this one-night tournament. Mr. Perfect even got some stuff out of Mr. Hugh and I was shocked as Jim Duggan lost clean; this tournament was quite good. There was some week finishes on this show; infamously the World title match , but also the eight-man tag and IC title matches in my opinion. The World Title match was my least favourite match of the night but I actually thought it was alright besides the finish. This kicks off the feud between Bret Hart and Jerry Lawler as Lawler attacks Hart during his Coronation at the end of the show."

[6.0] "This show is carried by Bret Hart's tournament performance by miles. He opens the show with a nice back and forth match with Razor Ramon, that was a little bit more energetic than their Rumble match (7/10), then has another ring classic with Mr. Perfect in the second round that steals the show without question (9/10), Has a solid underdog performance against Bam Ba in the finals, that starts off slow but builds well enough thanks to the hot crowd (7/10) and he closes the show with a very good segment against Jerry Lawler who rains on the newly crown king's parade. Everything else on the show is not as interesting.Perfect/Hughes is watchalbe thanks to Hennig's madman skills at bumping only (4/10) Bigelow/Duggan is silly and short (4/10) Luger/Tatanka felt a bit dull at times do to them stretching for time and it really needed some time limit announcemet to give it more tension towards the end, but its not bad (5/10) Yokozuna/Hogan is Hulkamania trash trhough and through (2/10) The Eight man tag starts off well with Steiner and Dibiase, but its over way too quick with a very bad finish (4/10) Michaels/Crush is fairly all right with HBK selling well and having fun offense, but it ends with shenanigas as well (5/10). Overall decent watch, but can't blame anyone if they just watch the Bret segments"

[4.0] "One brilliant match, one very good and the rest was just mediocre. Bret vs Perfect stole the show and it was a much better match than their Summerslam one. Then the second best was again Bret's match, this time against Razor which, again, was better than their Royal Rumble match. The final though was a bit disappointing and the rest of the bouts was either mid or plain bad like Yokozuna vs Hogan. I thought I would enjoy it more, but some moments here really lowered the quality of the whole PPV."

You could skip everything else and you wouldn't miss a lot (outside of the historic outcome of Hogan vs. Yokozuna), but I'd still recommend you to watch the entire PPV. While there are a couple of bad matches, the show as a whole is fun to sit through since the KOTR concept was fresh and the fans were into it."

Like yeah a lot of this show is Bret Hart carrying but he just does such a remarkable job at that all of his matches on this are worth watching. I'm honestly shocked that The Hogan vs Yokozuna match is so lowly rated because I rather liked that too. I enjoyed Crush vs Shawn Michaels too! Eventually I'll rewatch this and rate the individual matches but for now just know I think this show this is absolute classic WWF ppv."

[7.0] "Let's start with the tournament, which at the time had not yet lost its importance and was taken quite seriously. In fact, most of the great wrestlers were thrown in there, so it should have turned out well, right? Unfortunately of all the tournament matches, I can only highlight the ones in which Bret took part, but thankfully they overshadowed my disappointment with the other bouts. Bret is someone who can put on a good match against almost any wrestler, but on this night, he didn't need to carry his opponents given that Ramon, Perfect and Bigelow aren't bad wrestlers in their own right. I liked the fact that each match individually represented something different for Bret, in each match we saw a battle of two different styles. Ramon's ferocity, Perfect's technique, Bigelow's size and strength, each match was different. Bret himself once again proved that he can take his opponent's style of fighting and counter it with something to show for it. As for the other tournament matches, the match between the two Misters turned out to be an average one, largely thanks to Mister Perfect. The Bigelow/Duggan match generally deserved a place on the weekly show, but it was more for the storyline surrounding the tournament finale. The Luger vs Tatanka match slowed down from the start, as if to hint that we won't get a winner here. I can understand WWF, they stumped themselves with this decision, not wanting to hurt both wrestlers. The match was monotonous for the most part and it was not until the last five minutes that the wrestlers remembered to move. The final coronation set up a long and occasionally lulling confrontation between Bret Hart and Jerry "The King" Lawler. The WWF title match could rightly be considered historic, but it didn't become quality from that. Hogan didn't want to lose to Bret, so he'll lose to Yokozuna. The tag team match was given too little time to get anything meaningful out of it, and I'd have liked to see a little more from the Steiners. Crush and Shawn had an average match that was neither bad nor good. Overall, I enjoyed the show. Bret's matches are the only thing that pull the show to a respectable level, the rest of the matches were average at best, although I wouldn't say they were that terrible. Although it's worth noting that for a transition from one era to the next, the PPVs still turned out quite good."

He had three really good matches, each of them being with opponents who worked completely different styles and the matches also ended up being very different from each other with unique finishes. Other than Bret's matches, the rest of the card was fine but nothing was very good. The only bad part of the event was Hogan/Yokozuna but that also at least had Hogan losing which is a positive."

The rest of the show wasn't good, though I wouldn't exactly call it bad either. Not to mention, this also marked Hogan's last ever WWF PPV appearance for nearly a decade. A recommendation all around, if only for all the Bret stuff."

[7.0] "Bret Hart vs. Razor Ramon. Bret was stumbling around after losing the title, and they didn? t really know what to do with him because he was the most over regular wrestler on the roster, but Vince didn? t have confidence in him to carry the company. This PPV was an attempt to do *something* to placate Bret? s vocal fans. Solid match that showed Bret? s ability to strategize and his craftiness too. **1/2. Mr. Perfect vs. Mr. Hughes. Ah, Mr. Hughes ? the Big Daddy V of his era. Mr. Perfect actually had a fantastic series of matches with Doink the Clown to qualify for this. Normally, I? d complain about a DQ as lame as that, but it sets up Perfect vs. Bret. 3/4*. Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Bam Bam Bigelow. Ross is just itching to run through Hacksaw? s football career. I liked the little storyline revolving around the bodyslam, but that? s all there was to the match. *. Lex Luger vs. Tatanka. The referees make Luger cover up the steel plate in his forearm. Both guys were undefeated at this point, which should tell you the finish right away. Luger is good enough to be carried for 15 minutes. Tatanka is good enough to be carried for 15 minutes. Neither guy was good enough to carry the other for 15 minutes. Bigelow moves on to the finals. *1/2. Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect. The winner goes on to face a rested Bam Bam Bigelow. Bret moves on in the best match in King of the Ring history. A nearly flawless match plus a classy ending between two babyfaces. ****3/4. Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna. Hogan was scheduled to put Bret over at Summerslam, but he decided he didn? t want to do that. Vince decided he? d just put Yokozuna over and find a new Hogan. That? s why we got the Lex Express debacle. And with that, Hulkamania was dead in the WWF. *. The Smoking Gunns & Steiner Bros. vs. Money Inc. & The Headshrinkers. Well, *someone* had to follow the title match. The match is nothing, although it looks good in the early going. Disappointing match with a bad finish. *. Crush vs. Shawn Michaels. You gotta wonder what would have happened had Vince gone with Crush instead of Luger as ? the Next Hogan. ? I think we might have had flying cars in that alternate timeline. Crush and Shawn had some good matches. This is not one of them. This was about average until the silly ending. Second bad ending in a row, and that? s only if I don? t count the cameraman in an awful, fake beard interfering a bad finish. **. Bret Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow. Good big-man-vs. -little-man contest. No one knew how to tell a story quite like Bret, and Bigelow was one of the better big men in the business ? second only to Vader. ***. Worth a look for Bret's performance throughout the show and for the last Hogan match until 2002. 1993 was a transition year from Hogan and Friends to "The New WWF Generation. " Even though that was a slow, painful process, it is kind of fun to look back and see the origins of Bret, Shawn and the gang."

Obviously it's one of Bret's best career performances, all through the night, and his match with Perfect is almost certainly the WWF MOTY, with credit to Perfect as well. Outside of that, I thought the IC match was also pretty great, underrated overall. The Duggan match isn't good and the WWF title situation is a mess, but overall this is a great watch all the way through and one of the better KOTR tournaments ever."

It's too short to be good. Also ending is very stupid. Michaels vs Crush is alright. Tournament itself is very good, one of the best of all time. Bret Hart has three great matches here. Him vs Ramon is of course worse than at Royal Rumble. It is much more shorter and it doesn't have that psychology. Howewer this is a very good match. Bret vs Mr. Perfect is a real underrated gem. One of the best matches I ever saw. The final is great too. Post match is cool and it starts awesome feud between Hart and Jerry Lawler."

The only matches I didn't care for though were Mr. Perfect and Bam Bam Bigelow's first round matches and especially Lex Luger's match with Tatanka cause that match was really boring. However I did like the ending where Luger acted like he wanted 5 more minutes, but then took his elbow pad off and knocked Tatanka out to gain more heel heat. Hogan vs. Yokozuna for the WWF title wasn't good, it wasn't too bad, it was just ok. The only thing I really didn't like about it though was how stupid the finish was because WWF made it look like Yoko needed the assistance of the photographer's exploding camera on the ring apron to gain the upper hand on Hogan and regain the title which I don't consider a clean win by any means. But thankfully the 8-man tag match after that was a nice breath of fresh air and was fun to watch as well as the IC title match between HBK and Crush. I couldn't have picked a better superstar to be the first King Of The Ring winner than Bret Hart either after he put on 3 very good matches and was the MVP of that night by far even though I do give a ton of credit to Razor, Perfect, and Bam Bam as well, and I loved Bret's segment with Jerry Lawler at the end of the show as well cause it put Lawler over big time as a heel!"
