307.06.2026Pypebomb7.0Das Jahr 2008 startet mit dem Royal Rumble PPV. Ric Flair vs. MVP. Abschiedstour vom Nature Boy. Match geht völlig in Ordnung. Kurzer Schocker beim 3 Count trotz Rope Breaks. Kann man so machen. Y2J gegen JBL will bei mir nicht zünden. Wohin will man mit dieser Fehde? Beim Edge vs. Rey Mysterio Match bekommen wir ein cooles Finish. Die Face Pops für Edge sind nicht zu überhören. Das Backstage Segment rund um Ric Flair und Shawn Michaels ist nett. Das WWE Championship Match fühlt sich etwas nach Übergang an. Trotzdem worken die beiden ein ordentliches Match zusammen. Nach einem RKO ist dann aber auch schon vorbei. Der folgende Royal Rumble bietet alles was man braucht: Spektakuläre Nummer 1 und 2. Comedyspots, Midcardfehden, Legenden, Once in a Lifetime Matchups und eins der geilsten und unerwartesten Comebacks in der WWE Geschichte. Dass Cena trotzdem Heat zieht ist bemerkenswert. Ein vielversprechender Auftakt ins Jahr 2008. 7.5 von 10 Punkten.

The two title matches are mediocre, as for me, Hardy vs. Orton is even a tad better, especially since Rey and Edge don't even come close to pushing themselves to the limit in the finishing sequence. The undercard is solid and unspectacular, though I'll gladly admit that it's really time for Flair to say goodbye. The Rumble itself is pure star power, but it rarely comes close to the excitement of last year, even though the tension is palpable throughout. All in all, it's a passable show without any real low points - setting aside the Maria-Ashley-Santino Playboy nonsense - but as well aside from a few Rumble moments, nothing really stands out as exceptional. Overall, I'm surprised by the above-average ratings for this event here, but tastes do vary. Six points from me.

1002.02.2026K4T10.0The first WWE PPV i ever watched and still my favorite Royal Rumble match and event of all time, Flair vs MVP, Orton and Hardy, Edge vs Mysterio even JBL VS Jericho was decent and had such a brutal finish and of course the Rumble with one of the loudest pops in WWE history with Cena's return. miss this WWE aura.

2903.04.2025DarkPrince8.0Natürlich war die Undercard nicht das Beste, aber grade die 2 World Championship Matches und der Rumble bleiben im Kopf. Die Rückkehr von John Cena ist heute noch eines der denkwürdigsten Momente aller Zeiten in der Wrestling Geschichte. Normalerweise sollte er damals 7 bis 12 Monate ausfallen durch den Riss im Brustmuskel, er schaffte aber das womit niemand gerechnet hat, und kam innerhalb von nur 4 Monaten wieder zurück (! ). Eine unfassbare Leistung. Ich fand damals auch die ganze Darstellung aus dem MSG immer geil mit dem kleinen entrance und der Kamera Perspektive. Schade das die WWE das heute nicht mehr macht. Insgesamt einer der größten Royal Rumble PPV's die es je gegeben hat, der nicht unbedingt mit den Matches überzeugen kann, aber hier wurden viele coole Momente kreiert. Rey Mysterio vs. Edge um den World Heavyweight Championship (***3/4), genauso wie auch das WWE Championship Match zwischen Randy Orton und Jeff Hardy wo auch der Twist Of Fate Into RKO für immer im Kopf bleiben wird (***3/4). Dieser Royal Rumble PPV bekommt von mir 8 Punkte.

It has my favorite rumble match of all time, which plays heavily into my rating, but most of the matches on here are forgettable. The Jeff Hardy match is pretty good though. The non wrestling segments are more annoying than anything else, as Santino Marella is featured heavily. Skip the first half of this, enjoy Hardy/Orton, and watch what I think is the most entertaining rumble of all time.

Flair and MVP had a decent one with Ric's career being on the line that added a little substance to the bout, JBL vs Jericho was alright, although the best thing came after the match, Edge vs Mysterio had a mixed reaction from the crowd that produced a unique atmosphere and Orton vs Hardy had a potential for a better underdog story, but they still delivered with a pretty enjoyable contest. And then the Royal Rumble Match like last year's got elevated a bit by the final encounter between Cena, Triple H and Batista, because up to this point the star power was barely decent and there weren't many things to pop for. It was still solid though and John winning was a nice way to end the show.

5017.01.2024TrailsOfPersona5.0One of the most consistent cards you'll see, and a good start to 2008. However, unfortunately, this card doesn't really go above 'good' for very much. Edge vs. Mysterio was the best and JBL vs. Jericho was better than anticipated. The Rumble was fun, but had a lot of problems for me. There isn't a point during this event where you'll want to fast forward, but I also don't think this is a show that'll leave you saying 'wow' when it's over. Definitely a good show that's worth your time to watch, but nothing that I'd say is a 'must watch' here.

5231.12.2023DanTalksRasslin7.0A pretty good show throughout. The Flair vs MVP opener served its purpose, while JBL vs Jericho, Edge vs Mysterio and Orton vs Hardy were all decent. The Rumble itself was also solid; Cena's return and win were somewhat unexpected, Michaels and Taker had memorable interactions through the first half, and Batista, Punk and - surprisingly - Chuck Palumbo got decent showings. It also had a few drawbacks - the legends weren't in it long enough to really be able to add too much to the match, and there was a fair amount of Hornswoggle silliness. But, overall, a decent enough Rumble for its period.

7122.01.2022Sebastian V7.0Der Opener war gleich mal das schwächste Match aber auch kein Lowlight sondern okay. Danach kamen dann drei Matches, die alle auf ihre Art und Weise anständig waren wobei mir JBL gegen Jericho davon am besten gefiel - nur das Finish störte mich hier. Die anderen beiden Matches waren halt so, dass die Wrestler hier ihren Standard und ihre Trademarks zeigten, was bei diesen Leuten immer noch für anständige Matches sorgte. Das ME war dann natürlich klar das MOTN und ein wirklich gutes Rumble Match und das vor Allem aufgrund der Schlussphase aber auch davor war immer was los und es gab ziemlich überraschende Legendenauftritte. Insgesamt war das in meinen Augen eine mehr als anständige Show mit einem wirklich guten Rumble und mit Ausnahme des Openers anständigen Rahmenprogramm, sodass ich 7 Punkte für angemessen halte.

7608.01.2021Bob Burger8.0Starker PPV. Das Rahmenprogramm war zwar weniger spektakulär, doch beide Title Matches waren sehenswert und boten sehr solide Action. Das absolute Highlight des PPVs ist dann der Main Event. Das Rumble Match ist eines der besten seiner Art und wusste die gesamte Laufzeit bestens zu unterhalten. Man hatte etliche Stories (Shawn vs. Taker, Batista vs. Undertaker, HHH vs. Foley), tolle Überraschungsauftritte (Piper, Snuka) und mit dem Comeback von Cena vielleicht den größten Schocker in der Rumble-Histore. Das war episch. Toller Jahresbeginn.

8529.01.2019CM Guevara7.0Eine insgesamt überzeugende Ausgabe des Royal Rumble. Flair gegen MVP war ein solides Match. Jericho gegen JBL enttäuschte, wie JBL`s kompletter WWE - Run 08/09. Die Story, die eigentlich interessant begonnen hatte, wurde zurecht relativ früh fallen gelassen. Die beiden Titelmatches waren sehenswert. Das Match zwischen Orton und Hardy gefällt durch - für ein Orton - Match- eine relativ hohe Spot Dichte, hier wurde an der Matchzeit nicht viel für zeitraubende Haltegriffe geopfert. Das Royal Rumble Match war sehr kurzweilig und überzeugte vor allem durch den schönen Beginn zwischen Undertaker und Michaels.

The final was perfect to build Randy as a legit champion. Not a masterpiece, but it worked. 5) ****1/4 Speaking of things that worked! Great start with the 2007 finalists that carried the match almost for 2/3 of it. Then the perfect final: HHH with 29 and we all thought he was going to win, but then the greatest surprise ever with Cena's return. The final 3 was one of the most epic ever. When the Rumble delivers, the whole event delivers. Title matches were enjoyable too.
8802.11.2018Steamboat25117.0Der Royal Rumble eröffnet das ziemlich gute PPV-Jahr 2008. Das Rumble Match ist MotN, was für einen solchen PPV ja angemessen ist. Es gehört zu den besten seiner Art und lebt einerseits erneut von HBK vs. Undertaker und natürlich vom Überraschungscomeback John Cenas. Mark Out gelungen. Die beiden Titelmatches sind ordentlich, aber auch wirklich nicht herausragend. Von beiden hätte man noch mehr erwarten können, auch wenn besonders Orton vs. Jeff Hardy schon seriös daher kommt. Einen wirklichen Schwachpunkt hat dieser PPV nicht, denn auch der Opener, im Rahmen der Abschiedstournee Flairs, und selbst das JBL-Match sind keine Rohrkrepierer. Durchgängig gut, aber selten herausragend, 7 Punkte.
8928.06.2018DennyWWE1778.0Opener war ganz Solide. Das Ric Flair sich in seinem hohen Alter noch so viele Große Bumps zutraut war schon echt krass. JBL vs. Chris Jericho ganz Gut. Gute Storyline dahinter und bis zur DQ ein ganz Gutes Wrestling Match das mit dem Cut von Jericho an der Stirn irgendwie noch Brutaler wirkte. Edge vs. Rey war sehr Stark. Man hatte wirklich oftmals den gedanken das Rey den WHT wieder gewinnen könnte (***3/4). Orton vs. Hardy dann etwas Schwächer als Rey vs. Edge aber auch ganz Gut (***1/2). Royal Rumble Match wieder mit einigen Überraschungen. John Cena mit seiner Rückkehr war sehr Gut gemacht. Gutes Match (****). Fazit: Ein Guter RR PPV, wo die Matches eigentlich noch hätten besser werden können mit mehr Zeit.

The Royal Rumble match has some competition and the return of John cena, Edge vs Rey Mysterio is a letdown, Randy Orton vs Jeff Hardy is good, Ric Flair vs MVP continues to be part of Flair's final part of his career, Jericho vs JBL is bloody and interesting.

Als ob irgendjemand für möglich gehalten hätte, dass Ric Flair mit einem popeligen Opening-Match gegen MVP seine Karriere beendet... (2/5*) Wieder mal gut geführtes Match von JBL, wieder Mal mit doofem Finish, wieder Mal juckt es keine Sau, warum auch immer. JBL war am Mikrofon wie auch im Ring einer der besten Performer nach Ende der Attitude Era, durfte nur viel zu selten wirklich zeigen, was er draufhat, und irgendwann werden die Leute das vielleicht auch einsehen. Nettes Match. (3/5*) Edge vs. Rey ist (wie jedes Mysterio-Match in der WWE) weit von der Bestnote entfernt, aber angesichts dessen, was Letzterer später mit Kane fabrizieren wird, ist das noch fast sein MotY. Gutes Ende. (2. 5/5*) Randy vs. Jeff hat dann einige wirkungsvolle Momente und das wachsende Gefühl, dass Jeff vielleicht tatsächlich gewinne könnte, trägt das Match eine Weile. Letztlich hätte es aber kürzer sein dürfen, gerade als letztes Match vor dem Rumble. (3/5*) Der Rumble... besetzungstechnisch sehr cool, speziell, wer die Nr. 1 und 2 gezogen hat, sorgt für Euphorie gleich zu Anfang. Dann geht's aber alles etwas schnell. Die Zeiten bis zum nächsten Entry sind noch kürzer als sonst, so als könne jemand in der Regie gar nicht abwarten, endlich den Cena-Knaller rauszuhauen. Snuka/Piper haben einen netten Moment, während ich auf die Hornswoggle-Nummer hätte verzichten können (zumal Cena dadurch eigentlich nicht gewonnen hat, Finlay ist schließlich nie ausgeschieden... ) Der Pop bei Cenas Rückkehr ist dann tatsächlich ein unsterblicher Gänsehaut-Moment und einen Augenblick lang freut man sich fast mit. Wenn er nicht da ist, fehlt ja irgendwie auch was, nicht wahr? Solider Rumble. (3. 5/5*) Insgesamt deutet der Royal Rumble schon an, was für ein starkes Jahr 2008 den WWE-Fans bevorsteht.

9716.08.2016Longa-466.0Der Opener ist ganz okay und der Sieg für Flair ebenfalls. Bei Wrestlemania durfte er sich ja würdig verabschieden. Das nächste Match endet mit DQ und einem blutenden Jericho - ganz okay so. Edge gegen Rey ist okay, aber da war meiner Meinung nach deutlich mehr drin. Einzig und allein das Finish war nett gemacht. Das zweite Titelmatch ist aus meiner Sicht besser als das vorherige Titelmatch, geht aber auch noch lange nicht an seine Grenzen. Darauf folgt ein guter Rumble, welcher aber meiner Meinung nach schwächer als der im Vorjahr ist. Starke Anfangsphase, durchschnittlicher Mittelteil und starke Schlussphase prägen diesen Rumble. Für mich ist die Show ganz ordentlich, denn es gibt so gut wie keinen Totalausfall, aber eben auch nur ein wirklich gutes Match. 6 Punkte halte ich für angemessen.
