[7.0] "Overall, it was a great show. Even though it wasn't entirely consistent and not every match delivered top quality, it avoided the disaster of previous TakeOvers, where the gap in match quality was enormous. Here, the show balanced very entertaining bouts with others that were technically excellent in the ring. The women's division carried the show brilliantly, which is great to see. The last two matches were truly the highlights of the night -- between Bayley's long-awaited coronation and the stipulation match between Kevin Owens and Finn Bálor. This TakeOver feels like the beginning of a new era for WWE."

[9.0] "The show that made Takeover must watch. It has two of the best matches with the ladder match main event and the classic of Sasha Banks/Bayley 1, and they both deliver still to this day. I don't have much bad to say about the undercard either it does what it's supposed to and builds hype, and the crowd was red hot all night. If you haven't seen this show, you definitely should"

[8.0] "This is absolutely a two-match show, with Bayley/Sasha being an instant classic and Balor/Owens being a great ladder match. The undercard is decidedly average overall (the highlight being seeing Jushin Thunder Liger in a WWE ring), but the red hot crowd made everything more entertaining than it would have been otherwise."
AceHagann wrote on 09.01.2025:

[7.0] "This was pretty fun show with a red hot crowd which added to the show massively the match of the night was easily the main event ladder match personally - bayley sasha was great but slightly overrated in my opinion - the undercard was fine nothing spectacular"

[10.0] "The undercard was fine enough as it was but the ladder match was really fantastic and Banks Vs Bayley is just an absolute perfect revolution to all women's wrestling. Overall NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 1 is a spectacular show and definitely one of the most iconic takeovers ever thanks to Banks Vs Bayley."
RealGrapsThomsen wrote on 17.07.2024:
[8.0] "Just a really good takeover. Both the men and womens world title matches delivered, Jushin Liger being in NXT was fun to watch, the tag title match was good, and even the filler matches werent that bad. There was also the very electric takeover crowd here."
jacktheog wrote on 17.07.2024:
[9.0] "This takeover is so sick its the first stadium show and it just feels like the first time NXT really clicked and put on a amazing show. The opener was fun with Tyler Breeze going against Jushin Thunder Liger of all people. The tag team match is also very fun with the involvement of Blue Pants Girl to counteract Alexa Bliss. Apollo Crews and Tye Dillinger have a nice little match and Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin have a alright match. The last two matches are what make this show so special especially Bayley Vs Sasha Banks. This match is so great and the moment at the end with the four horsewomen celebrating in the ring is just the cherry on top. Kevin Owens and Finn Balor had a good main event that saw a bunch of cool spots, but I think Bayley and Sasha definitely should of went on last. This show for me marks where I think NXT really figured it out and its a preview of what great things will come out of future NXT Takeovers."

[10.0] "I do not think that this card has a bad moment on it. Jushin Thunder Liger being here is awesome and his match with Breeze had some incredibly funny moments in it along with some great in ring work. The tag match was one of the better takeover matches and I thought the two teams had a great final sequence. Apollo Crews had a great takeover debut and I am in awe of his in ring ability. Samoa Joe and Corbin had a better match than I was expecting them to have and I can say this is Corbin's best match I have seen from his early days, which is a big credit to Joe. Banks and Bayley is a certified classic that changed women's wrestling forever and might be the best takeover match I have seen so far. And the main event was great as well with a great stip attached that was well used while having great work aside from it. Overall this is the best takeover they have put on up to this point and will be a tough one to beat as I keep going through all of them."

[7.0] "This was a decent pay per view that just so happened to have one of the best women's match's ever on the card. I'd say it's slightly overrated but definitely gives you a taste of the peak of NXT. Really good PPV but as I said, overrated. Match of the Night was definitely Bayley vs Sasha Banks."

Prince Osborne wrote on 29.06.2022:
[9.0] "The opener was a pretty fun match between a respectable legend and an egotistical upstart. It was really good for a one-off appearance for Liger. The tag title match was another fun match that had its wrestling part done well as well as the lighthearted comedy working out well for the Brooklyn faithful. Crews had a fine debut against Tye which could've been even better than what happened. Joe vs. Corbin was a very good physical battle that had great action flowing so good throughout. Then happened a game changing contest between Banks & Bayley which was a tremendous presentation of their story with exceptional action that was missed in years before this. Both set the foundation for women's wrestling to become a great phenomenon for WWE. The main event was a stellar all-around brawl that had a different handling of a ladder match working great, but their Japanese spectacle was far better in terms of action. However, the story told by the main event was great enough to cement Bálor as the next cover star of NXT while Owens moved on to bigger things after a fantastic run in the brand. This TakeOver was another classic and the first of many to break out in front of a packed arena and steal the night with exceptional action throughout. 8.5 out of 10 points!"

[8.0] "The first NXT TakeOver outside of Full Sail and one of the better ones before they became the supercards that we see today. The first four matches are fine, but the tag title match is the only thing in the opening hour or so worth seeing. Elsewhere Sasha vs Bayley was a good match made great by the audience and was the best women's match that the WWE had produced at that point. The main event was also a good match, but they didn't do anything that we haven't seen before. Overall a good event with an incredible crowd, but Sasha vs Bayley is the only thing here that is must watch."

I think overall the event was about average, but the atmosphere and importance, along with the last half hour of matches bumps it up a lot"

[9.0] "Another fantastic show from NXT in 2015, although just like R Evolution, was a little overrated. Jushin Liger Vs Tyler Breeze was a perfect showcase match for Liger to show American audiences he still had it (**3/4), Vaudevillains Vs Blake and Murphy was entertaining and the perfect conclusion to the story (***), Apollo Crews's debut Vs Dillenger was a showcase match, although Apollo looked good, (**1/4), Joe Vs Corbin was good for a Corbin match in 2015, but still annoyingly average (**1/2), Bayley Vs Sasha was an instant classic, a wonderful match with a perfectly told story, and was the first time women in WWE had put on a genuine match of the year contender (****1/2) and the main event between Balor and Owens was great as well, although it was hurt by following the classic that came before it, and probably should not have main evented (***3/4)."

Finn Balor Vs Kevin Owens ****3/4. The four matches in the beginning are good but you can easily skip them. Sasha Banks Vs Bayley and Finn Balor Vs Kevin Owens are two of the best matches in NXT history and I recommend both of them to any pro wrestling fan."

Bayley really cemented her place ahead of Charlotte in the in ring department with the match here. In hind-site clearly the womens match should have gone on last but I would have thought that Owens and Balor with ladders would have been tough to follow; shows what I know ;)"
DanTalksRasslin wrote on 01.09.2015:
[9.0] "A very good show indeed, highlighted by two legitimate match-of-the-year candidates in the Balor vs. Owens NXT Title ladder match and the Banks vs. Bayley NXT Women's Title match. Elsewhere, we had very good Tag Team Title match, a fun first-time-in-WWE appearance from Liger, a strong debut for Crews, and Joe getting as much as you could hope for out of Corbin. The NXT specials continue to live up to the hype."
Mizzle Assault Ant wrote on 31.08.2015:
[8.0] "A good show, maybe a little overrated but still enjoyable. I really liked the main event, and the women's title match was enjoyable albeit it suffering from severe overhype (in my opinion). I didn't like Joe vs. Corbin at all but generally this was a good event so an 8 seems very fair."
Dane Bramage wrote on 28.08.2015:
[9.0] "Another great show from NXT. The female wrestlers continue to have much better outing on NXT than the main rosters, as Sasha Banks and Bayley put in a top notch performance to steal the show. Finn Balor and Kevin Owens also put on a cracking main event. The undercard was good all around, with a special appearance from Jushin Liger, the debut of Apollo crews, a tag-title change, and a hot crowd all helping the show outshine Summerslam the following night."
Dowkesy wrote on 27.08.2015:
[6.0] "A decent show, I really liked the last two matches but besides that it wasn't that good of a show in my opinion. I loved seeing Jushin Liger, I'm a massive fan especially of his mid 90's work but this match was more of a highlight reel of all his signature moves and really wasn't that good of a match, I must say though I loved the spot where Jushin takes a selfie, my rating was *1/2, not great. NXT Tag title match was good but nothing special, quite a basic tag match, I thought the stuff with Blue Pants and Alexa a bit silly and thought it took away focus from the actual match but it was alright i guess, again nothing amazing, my rating **3/4. Apollo vs Tye did it's job very well of debuting Apollo, I was really impressed with what he could do though this again wasn't a good match but this gets a pass because it did it's job to debut Apollo which is what it was designed to do. Joe vs Corbin was another bad match unfortunately, I love Joe and his work especially in mid to late 2000s and I really like Corbin's character however these guys just didn't work well together, bad match *1/2. Bayley vs Sasha was good and I really enjoyed it, I think it may be slightly overrated calling it a classic match but it is one of the best Womens matches in a very very long time and a great match in general, my rating ****1/4. The Main event too was a good ladder match with some great spots ****. Overall I would recommend many of the other Takeover show's ahead of this one as the undercard was very poor in terms of quality but it was still cool seeing Jushin in a WWE ring and Apollo's debut. A decent show."

[7.0] "Another wonderful NXT show and this time in front of a ridiculously sized crowd. Without a bad match on the show, and two outstanding main events, Takeover: Brooklyn has left SummerSlam with a huge challenge. Sasha Banks and Bayley in particular deserve all the praise that is coming their way right now, for their superb encounter, maybe it's time for Vince to take notice and really allow his female performers to shine."
Josh76 wrote on 24.08.2015:
[9.0] "Excellent Takeover! Seeing Jushin was awesome the divas match ruled and the main event had a lot of HOLY CRAP moments. Samoa Joe and Corbin were cool but I overestimated Apollo Crews and The tag match dragged a bit but overall the show was awesome!"
jackleone wrote on 23.08.2015:
[8.0] "Another victory for NXT, this is a great show. The woman's match was the best fight, a MOTY candidate not just for NXT. Balor vs Kevin Owens is a good Ladder match, with some spots and a good in-ring psychology. Samoa Joe has a strong debut. The tag team match is enjoyable, the other two matches were not special at all. This is a great event and WWE can be sure some of these wrestlers will be stars in a couple of years."
BuddySchultz wrote on 23.08.2015:
[10.0] "A MOTY candidate women's title match, an outstanding ladder match main event, and a very enjoyable undercard. Not one bad match, everyone had something to bring to the table. NXT continues to put together great wrestling shows, and this time it's their most significant and most enthralling."

Liger/Breeze was a fun opener (**3/4), tag title match was there (*1/2), Crews/Dillinger was a pretty good, but a really short match, Apollo looked good (*1/2), Joe/Corbin was awesome (***), Bayley/Sasha just stole the show, and it truly was one of the greatest women's matches in WWE history (****1/2) and the main event was good as well (***1/4). Overall Takeover: Brooklyn was a really good show. Loved it."
MatteoMerdok wrote on 23.08.2015:
[6.0] "Really good show. The match of the night, as with most TakeOver's as of late goes to the women. Bayley and Sasha Banks stole the show. Second was the main event with Balor and Owens. Third in my opinion was the Tag Team match between the Vaudevillains and Blake and Murphy."
Vertebreaker wrote on 23.08.2015:
[7.0] "Pretty entertaining show but nowhere close to the best show of the year or a 10 rating. The women's match and the ladder match were both pretty good, and everything else was fairly average for an NXT special."
HeadCheese wrote on 23.08.2015:
[10.0] "A really fun show goosebumps all around. Tyler Breeze vs Jushin Liger was very, very fun, English/Gotch vs Blake/Murphy was in my opinion was the best tag champion match in Takeover history Blue Pants was an awesome surprise, Apollo Crews and Tye was a impressive debut back and forth match, Samoa Joe had Baron Corbin's best match, Sasha Banks and Bayley had a GREAT AWESOME match, I also enjoyed the farewell hug from the 4 Horsewoman to end the current era of NXT Woman, Finn Balor and Kevin Owens had a good ladder main event. This show had me very happy."
Hunter Dunn wrote on 23.08.2015:
[10.0] "Completely fantastic show. Everything was good or great. Not one dissapointment. Every match delivered how it should and some exceeded expectations. Breeze vs Liger was a nice start **3/4, B&M vs Vaudevillains was what I expected which was a sleeper match, ***1/2, Crews vs Dillinger did exactly what it was supposed to do so **1/4 is actually good. Joe vs Corbin was good as well and didnt really harm Corbin too much since he didnt tap ***1/4. Bayley vs Banks was the best womens match in wwe history, possibly ever. It blew Banks vs Lynch out of the water. Serious MOTYC which I believe was *****. Balor vs Owens was a great main event even though it had to go on after the incredible women's match. It was as good as hoped to be ****1/4 with special props to Owens who was on fire. Excellent event that summerslam most likely can't compete with"

[10.0] "I had high expectations but that.. was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Main event was very good but again the women's title match absolutely stole the show, that was just incredible. The crowd nearly hindered this with some boos for Bayley at the beginning but she definitely silenced that lot, once the crowd was super hot that definitely helped it a bit but it would've been a terrific match in front of 50 people too. Just all around brilliant, by far the best women's match I've seen in WWE. And the four horsewomen? Way better as an attention-capturing angle on Raw than this muddled Team PCB, Team BAD crap. The main event wasn't quite to that standard but extremely good, had me on the edge of my seat both with brutal spots and genuine suspense on who would win. As for the rest, I was always gonna love the Liger match. The big pop for Blue Pants was surreal and brilliant and that match was great fun, I wasn't so sure about the Vaudevillains a few weeks ago but this feud with B&M has really worked for me, a lot thanks to the work of Alexa Bliss. Apollo Crews was predictably crisp in his big debut in an enjoyable match Joe/Corbin was also good, a bit slower paced than most of the matches and you do wonder what a 2004/05 model Joe could be like in this kind of match, but still good stuff, the video package before was ace, been nervous watching Joe kind of losing relevance since his big entrance but this should give him a kick in the right direction. Your turn, Summerslam."
