He's so traumatized and focused on the picture of trying to control things, trying to fix things, trying to right the wrongs of everything he has been involved of, that while he thinks he sees the big picture, that isn't really the case. I think why I love this promo and in a way relate to it hard is my own experience of mental health and trauma, and the times where I fell into the same sort of panic and fear and disassociation from everything. This promo is so real, and it hurts. It once again makes Mick Foley a justified heel in what he says in this promo. You really get inside the psyche of this broken man, worn down by years and years of giving everything to professional wrestling and yet still feeling disrespected and unappreciated, and now realizing that part of this hardcore style that ECW has adopted is his fault, that people like Tommy Dreamer would ruin their careers by following in his footsteps all the while being controlled by the bloodthirsty fans, and being at war with himself eternally over it. You don't even need context for this, Mick clearly lays out everything you need to know while keeping it so gripping and real as possible. This is professional wrestling at its best. The delivery, the passion, this is everything that is great about professional wrestling. Incredible. |

Cactus Jack's anti-hardcore character in ECW is probably one of my favorites ever, and promos with such unbridled passion as this one and the "Cane Dewey" promo are massive reasons why.
