However, the build up was so much fun. It's pretty ballsy to make a match a year in advance and hope the fans don't lose interest. Cena carried it weekly and when Rock showed up the whole thing felt like a huge deal."

[7.0] "The feud between John Cena and The Rock is good, but it has a lot of issues. The main issue is that the Once in a Lifetime match was announced a year in advance which meant that WrestleMania XXVII's main event was just fodder for the feud between Cena and the Rock. Then there's scheduling issues for the Rock as he is a Hollywood megastar so most of the buildup revolved around John Cena talking about the match and calling the Rock out. Lastly, Cena vs Rock II tampered with the Once in a Lifetime meaning. However, once John Cena and The Rock got in the ring with their promo battles they cooked each other all the way down to John Cena calling The Rock out for writing his lines on his wrist! The match itself at WrestleMania XXVIII was incredible and I do think the payoff was nice, but there were some massive road bumps along the way."

John Cena's was more of a personal attack on The Rock for his "lack of love" for the WWE and the WWE Universe. The Rock's attack on John Cena was about his WWE persona. So you never really knew what kinda stuff either or was gonna say or what kinda shot they were gonna jab at each other when they had a live microphone in their hands on live television. However, both Rock and Cena were faces of the company at respective points, they were two of the bigger stars of their generation, and Vince had a lot of trust in the both of them to keep things professional and make it work. So it made for some fun television regardless of whose side you were on at that particular time."

[4.0] "A bold move by WWE to book Rock/Cena a year in advance for the next Mania. This allowed for plenty of time to build to the match. In hindsight, it felt like it been announced too far in advance. Waiting a year for this match to happen was destined to provide an anti-climax, either the idea of the match got boring by the time it happened or the anticipation of the match got so high that Rock/Cena could never live up to that. While the culminating match itself was sub-par, the overall feud could have been saved with the right booking and great promos. The promos were here and there, Rock made some good promos that usually made for a fun listen. Cena's promos for this feud were better than the juvenile ones he had been typically making at the time but they didn't make this feud feel 'Once in a Lifetime' levels of importance, there was still that juvenile nature there that Cena couldn't quite play off and make it work the way that The Rock can. At the end of the day It's a dream match/feud that got to happen, those desperate to see it got to the see the end-result, for better or worse. It's just a shame that it didn't quite live up to what it could have."
