[10.0] "For some crazy reason they're not in the rivalry section of the site, so I'm gonna rate Rock vs Foley here, and if we only take into consideration the '98 Survivor Series - '99 WrestleMania period, it's one of the best stretches that american wrestling has ever seen, simply phenomenal, the peak of Attitude Era, and a feud that absolutely made The Rock into the biggest thing in pro wrestling. When we think about the Attitude Era, it's usually Austin vs McMahon/Rock, but this one is special and belongs into the conversation, one can even argue that it's the best rivalry of the period from several different standpoints. That era was extremely cartoonish, but Rock vs Mankind was a nice sample of violence in the middle of all the ludicrous stuff. Every match of theirs is good, and their work was characterized by the violence and unpredictability... we had many title changes back and forth, and several physical matches, a lot of brawls with weapons, nasty bumps and stipulations. The contrast here is one of the most beautiful things in wrestling, we have a deranged, deformed and dirty individual, against the perfect one, the guy that was chosen by the Corporation to lead the WWF and be the face of the company, and because they're so different, the dynamic is a wonder to watch. This whole thing was a proving ground for Rock, in-screen and off-screen, and he absolutely smashed it, in keyfabe he wanted to prove that he's much more than a pretty face, matching Foley's craziness and showing how dangerous he can also be, and this is connected with the perception he wanted to accomplish backstage. Mick made the most out of the situation as well, and sold his ass off to Rock, creating a star."

[10.0] "This feud not only had great matches that helped make The Rock become the megastar he is today, but it also gave us one of the greatest moments in wrestling history where fans really got behind Mick Foley after he was screwed over at the Survivor Series and the weeks that followed which included a PPV win at Rock Bottom where the title change was nullified on a technicality, he finally became the champion on a memorable episode of Raw which ran alongside WCW's infamous Fingerpoke of Doom as well as new fans switching over because WCW spoiled the result! Mankind was a transitional champion here with Austin being the #1 face in the company, but this was not a bad thing at all because the storyline gave us one of the most satisfying feel good moments in wrestling history and it's still a moment that's talked about now! All of their PPV matches was strong with the 'I quit' match at the Royal Rumble being their most controversial clash because of the excessive amount of chairshots Foley took to the head. They had the first ever last man standing match, which ended in a draw and their Half Time Heat empty arena brawl with the cinematic camera angles was also well ahead of its time. Their charisma as opponents as the complete opposite of each other also lead to them becoming a great tag team after this feud was over."
