- Die Charaktere Diamond Dallas Page, Randy Savage, Glacier und Wrath müssen durch das Abschließen verschiedener League Challenges freigespielt werden.

- Neben den Vertretern der WCW und nWo finden sich auch einige fiktive Charaktere in dem Spiel wieder, die allerdings an reale japanische Wrestler angelehnt sind. Dead or Alive Wrestling entspricht hierbei der mittlerweile geschlossenen FMW (Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling) mit den Vertretern Sumo Jo (Genichiro Tenryu), Kim Chee (Koji Kitao), Blackheart (Tarzan Goto), Puchteca (Atsushi Onita), Hannibal (Hayabusa), Powder Keg (Kodo Fuyuki), Dim Sum (Gedo), Saladin (Abdullah The Butcher) und Ali Baba (Tiger Jeet Singh). Die Independent Union ist der fiktive Ersatz für MPW (Michinoku Pro Wrestling) und wird vertreten durch Black Ninja (The Great Sasuke), Shaolin (Jinsei Shinzaki), The Unknown (Super Delfin), The Claw (Gran Naniwa), Black Belt (TAKA Michinoku), Paco Loco (Dick Togo/Men's Teioh), Shaman (Wellington Wilkens Jr.) und Master Fuji (Yoshiaki Fujiwara).

[10.0] "What a game this is and was. I had all the (WCW and WWF) wrestling games from THQ for PlayStation and Nintendo 64. WCW vs. nWo World Tour makes no exception. This is for me with WCW Nitro my ALL TIME favorite wrestling game. The epic music in the menu, the cool intro with Sting when he comes from the arena roof. The cool attires of the wrestlers, the simple controls. If you have a N64 or you are a retro WCW fan, and never played this game, you defintive missed something. This is for me with no doubt THE BEST THQ (WCW and WWF) wrestling game developed by AKI. I just love how simple, but also asthetic this game is. The menu art, graphics, music, roster. Its for me with WCW Nitro just a masterpiece. These two wrestling games were and still are the reason why I loved these wrestling games. Every sequel was good, but not that epic than this game."

[9.0] "Classic. I still remember, how I got a Nintendo 64 for free in 1999 with WCW vs. NWO World Tour. Had played this with friends for weeks whenever we were off. Great. I always took Sting, Hogan or Rey Mysterio. Epic times. Unfortunately, the roster was a bit small and many wrestlers that I found important weren't there (Roddy Piper, Disco Inferno, Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray). But nonetheless, a wrestling classic through and through and one of the very best N64 games any times!"

[7.0] "Better than WCW vs. the World on PlayStation 1. Only thing I really didnt' like is that this game is to japanese wrestling orientied. And the graphics look to cartoony for my taste. But its from the AKI THQ games the best looking wrestling game, no doubt. The WCW vs. the World and the sequels from this game looking far worse. I played this game with my friends for a time back in day, but we switched to Nitro. It was just better WCW feeling which I hardly miss in this game! But i can't say i didn't had fun with this game. We had fights that were 5stars matches!"

[10.0] "This title changed the wrestling video game landscape for years to come. Sure future titles were superior, but when this one came along, there had been nothing quite like it before."

[10.0] "I loved playing this game as a kid and still do as an adult. This game was the last kid friendly game before it was crude and had hardcore matches. The game roster pictures are cartoony. The roster was great with many wrestlers not just from WCW and NWO but the Japanese wrestlers from FMW and MPW. This was the first time they had health meters that went from blue to red meaning special or danger. I love the WCW vs NWO war days. The submission moves are great and you could win a match in less than 2 minutes. I was a master at this game. Later on THQ did WCW/NWO Revenge, WWF Wrestlemania 2000 and WWF No Mercy which has the same graphics. One of the best games of all time. Best game for WCW ever."
