[3.0] "Standard Acclaim stuff, clunky but trash. Attitude will be better, and this has potential, but the controls are not it. I hated this control scheme. Considering what THQ was doing at the same time, unacceptable"

I remember it having a bit too complicated button combinations to do wrestling moves. I have to say the promos in this game are awesome! Even tough I am still very bad at playing this I think it's fun to play once or twice a year just for the laughs!"

[6.0] "WWF War Zone is a product of it's time and hasn't aged well as many other wrestling games. The game introduced several features that were revolutionary for the time, such as Create-a-Wrestler and the introduction of wrestling entrances, setting new standards for wrestling games. We also had some features that made War Zone a can't miss for people picking it up back in 1998. It captured the essence of the WWF at the time and made a impact in how wrestling games were perceived during its release. Despite that, The game is difficult for new players, with a clunky controls and mechanics and a very aged feel, especially in terms of graphics, controls, and hit detection. Having to get in the picture perfect position gets annoying after a while. The career mode is VERY tedious by modern standards, and unlockables are not worth unlocking at all. Overall, War Zone was a decent game for it's time and future games / developers would improve on these concepts. [***1/4]"

If only I had them. Either way, WWF War Zone is a clunky game that relies on arcade-like button combinations to do most moves, and its roster is very small. At least the CAW suite is serviceable, although don't expect anything too good there. I also like that TVs are a weapon that you can use. Otherwise, this game's story mode is heavily repetitive as you just do matches over and over again with no storyline."

[4.0] "I played this on the ps1 a decade ago and honestly it hadn't aged well. Acclaim just isn't a very good developer, there's some novelty in playing an attitude era game in 3D, but this didn't keep my interest for long. Later WWF ps1 releases were better."
Shadow Explosion wrote on 04.08.2022:
[3.0] "Same as what I said with Attitude, The Acclaim engine is not a good wrestling game engine because of it's combo system where you need to keep pausing in order to know what to do. It's not intuitive whatsoever. However this does have the infamous Ahmed Johnson rants so it gets an extra point for that. Eat a Reef! Step up to Punchy!"

[6.0] "For nostalgic I came back to this game and it's not as bad as most make it. The game had a decent roster, good graphics for 1998, nice sound and commentary. Only the gameplay was a bit complicated. WWF SmackDown 1&2 from THQ was better and ahead in this category to this game. But still, this game has Bret and Owen Hart. And this alone is epic. (Bret was at the time when this game was released on the rival side WCW) I also love these epic little rant videos, they still remind me to the very underated (and for me legendary) WCW Nitro from THQ."

The PS version enhances this by adding video cut scenes of the wrestlers challenging you. I remember one time when I first got the game playing the mode with some friends watching, and one freaked out when a video of Kane came on to challenge me (as Austin). I enjoyed the heck out of this game and still do today. Controls were difficult but once you know the scheme, it's enjoyable."

I had to button mash like crazy just to get the simplest moves out and the game was virtually impossible to beat on any level other than easy. I came to loathe this game."
