WCW Backstage Assault

It's also missing members like Chuck Palumbo, Dustin Rhodes, Jamie Noble, Jim Duggan, Jimmy Yang, Kaz Hayashi, Mark Jindrak, Michael Modest, Paul Orndorff, Robert Gibson, Sean O'Haire, Shawn Stasiak, Sherri Martel, & Terry Funk. Some characters, like Hugh Morris & Johnny Stamboli's face textures aren't accurate, appearance-wise."

[3.0] "One positive thing I can say about WCW Backstage Assault is the massive roster this game has. And it you can even play as female wrestlers (Finally! ). The gameplay and graphics are not much to praise about. The game hasn't aged too well and when it came out it was already out dated. Sometimes games are so bad that they're good but I wouldn't say that about WCW Backstage Assault."

[4.0] "As someone that played this game for the first time a few months back, WCW Backstage Assault is not the worst wrestling I've ever played. The controls are quite similar to Mayhem and works decently. This game opts out in-ring action for fighting in various areas and it can be mildly amusing seeing what you can do. The roster is pretty mid, filled with everyone that was around in WCW in 2000. The graphics, on the other hand, are quite abysmal. Even by the standards of the fifth generation, the majority of the roster are totally unrecognizable with their muddy face textures and disproportionate body sizes You have accurate music for everyone and commentary is decent with Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan on the headsets. Overall, this is a pretty decent last outing for WCW in the gaming sphere and one of the few things enjoyable about the company in that year"

[3.0] "Contrary to popular belief, This is NOT the worst wrestling game ever made. As a matter of fact there have been far worse wrestling games than Backstage Assault (The Simpsons Wrestling for Playstation & WWC for Playstation 2 are good examples). Backstage Assault does have some positives. The audio is exactly what you'd imagine when you think of WCW during the Russo era, chock-full of Rock music & Accurate WCW theme songs. Backstage Assault also features arguably one of the most shocking pros to a game of this type, The tremendous announcing done by Tony Schiavone & Bobby The Brain Heenan. These 2 guys put on the greatest announcing you'll ever hear in a wrestling game & they are enough reason to play this game once every blue moon. The gameplay is the complete opposite unfortunately. Backstage Assault was built with the same game engine that was used in WCW Mayhem, but something horribly wrong happened during the creation of the game. Every match turns out to be a 1 vs 2 Handicap match, with you going toe to toe against the CPU and their tag team partner, The Hit Detection. That's right, the Hit Detection is the greatest Heel in the game, & will surely push you to the test in just about every bout in the game. Presentation: 6/10 This game features WCW titles, Entrance music & videos, & a decent roster, I gave it a 6 due to the majority of the roster being Locked at the start of the game, which felt like an unusual and odd choice from the devs. (russo's not fooling us! ) Gameplay: 3/10 Contains terrible collision/hit detection, sloppy button layout, glitches, input delay, & occasional frame dips. Backstage Assault will quickly becomes a rough time for the player. Graphics: 2/10 The characters... look like shit. 90% of the roster either looks disproportionate, distorted, uncanny, scary, or laughable. However, the environments don't look too bad. You can easily make out the locations, You just can't do that with the actual wrestlers themselves sadly. Sound: 7/10 The sound is Backstage Assault's saving grace. Full of amped music & Exciting commentary. EA & Kodiak Interactive did a good job with the audio! Replay Value: 2/10 Backstage Assault has a very small variety of modes considering the time this game was released. No Mercy has tons of match types, Smackdown! 2 is an exotic all you can eat Buffet of modes and match types, & those games were released later the same exact month that Backstage Assault Released... Backstage Assault only has 3 modes, Exhibition, Hardcore Challenge, & Hardcore Gauntlet. Exhibition contains a few special rules, Regular, First Blood, & Human Torch. Regular is self explanatory, First Blood speaks for itself, Human Torch is a strange one. Apparently, the aim of the match is to ignite your opponent with a flaming object, however the Special Rule is ONLY applied to a 2 player game. I assume it's due to the poor CPU not understanding how to set a weapon on fire, and/or EA ju"

"This was my first wrestling game. I hated it back then and still do but it was all we had so... I cannot recommend this to anyone."

[6.0] "I'm probably in a small minority here... but I do kinda like this game. I played it a great deal and enjoy making CAWS and listening to the various entrance themes playing throughout the menus. Gameplay-wise though yeah... It wasn't great, basically just whack your opponent with whatever weapons was lying around and pin (rinse & repeat) but I liked playing through the Career mode and tried my best to unlock the whole roster (which was quite vast, but still had non-wrestlers like many of the WCW games). The only time the WCW Hardcore title featured in a WCW game too."

[1.0] "Just a bad game. It has weird controls, awful graphics (even WCW vs. The World from 1996 looks better than this crap) and bad controls. 1 Point it still becomes for a good roster. This and WWE 2K20 are the worst wrestling games ever!"

[8.0] "Great game for someone who loves hardcore wrestling. Its reminds me of CZW (Combat Zone Wrestling) and ECW. Downfalls too many unlockables and how to unlock them is hard. They have a barrel of fire which is rare in a vidoe game."
