AEW World Trios Championship

[5.0] "The initial war between The Elite and Death Triangle is one of my favorite series of matches in wrestling history. It was insanely overblown and sure of itself, but what a way to usher in your trio's titles. It was awesome. Since then? It's been misrepresented, underutilized, and hasn't really made its own place a sure thing on the card. It can sometimes feel forgotten about. Be it the Opps, Conglomeration, or Death Riders, it seems this belt really only exists to elevate factions and large groups at times too. It's a 7 for me because I believe the potential is there and this belt has hosted some serious classics, but it needs to be propped up in a big way and the sooner the better. Edit, changing from a 7 to a 5 here. The Demand has been your most consitent trio in the entire division, I don't even need to look it up I know they've been more of a presence than anybody has and they have been the most TRIO of all the TRIOs AEW has had since the Bucks and Omega. Sure it might for a fun match but that result is just baffling."

[3.0] "As a general rule, if you're going into August and a belt has meant absolutely nothing since January of that year, said belt does not need to exist. Virtually no matches have been wrestled around it all year, certainly no important storylines have revolved around it all year. 5 out of the last 6 reigns have lasted 24 days or less; my jaw dropped when they took them off The Demand. Tony's not even trying. Definitely the first belt I'd snip if I were given the hypothetical "Trimming AEW's belts thought experiment.""

[4.0] "The booking around this title ranges from main-event-adjacent and extremely fun to basically deadweight. Right now, it's kind of leaning closer to the inconsequential side of things, given that they've stopped booking larger storylines for this title over the past three months."

[6.0] "It's had its ups and downs, especially in the beginning thanks to the Pepsi Phil nonsense. Some solid trios have held it outside of the original two teams (HoB, Conglomeration, Death Riders, Opps) and there have been some that are not so great (BCG, Billy and the Acclaimed). The past few months of hot shotting around haven't helped either, granted injuries played a role. Hopefully a solid heel team is next up to give the belts another decent run after The Conglomerates drop them."

[5.0] "This title does not need to be a thing. None of the trios matches are blow alway to where omg this needs to be a title. It was doomed when the elite got suspended"

[4.0] "When these titles first appeared, they were a good idea and concept, given the huge roster with a large number of factions. But now they no longer play the important role they originally did, and have simply become soullessly passed from hand to hand without any storyline."

[5.0] "These AEW World Trios Championship are for sure not the best part of this company. These championships started with the Brawl Out situation, had a good BO7 and never really recovered. These championships fell into other factions hands but never had any outgoing major story. Trios wrestling is a more safe wrestling match to where new wrestlers should be showcased or veterans who can still go, but these championships as of (March 3rd, 2026) seem to be more for "elevating" main event stories.. but just cause they are around the main event superstars doesn't mean they are doing anything. And at times, it seems Tony just forgets about these championships existing until they are "needed.""

[2.0] "The concept is fine and quite a few good matches have come out of this, but there is nowhere near enough roster depth to maintain a trios division. As a result, there may be months where the title becomes completely directionless and even its holders (see Adam Page and Samoa Joe) see it as an afterthought as they are focused on bigger things. I think it should be retired and dedicate the few trios teams to what is currently a small tag division. Also there have been some pretty bad reigns; The Acclaimed winning it was amazing to see in the moment, but its reign was one of the worst parts of one of AEW's weakest periods, also leading to the Bang Bang Scissor Gang."

[0.0] "Simply put, the trios titles have been forgotten about. This recent title reign was as bad as a title can possibly get. forgotten for months on end in back to back years. A complete malfunction when booking, now because a champ is leaving they have to hot shot them onto a team that has tagged 1 other time as a trio. The promise of a trios title in AEW was glorious, at one time I would have had these as higher rated than the tag titles but my how quickly that feeling has changed. You have to wonder if having three sets of titles now will impact this even more. Does anyone care about who's holding a title if it's never even seen? Absolute garbage"

[3.0] "These championships have existed for over two years and have really hindered once prosperous tag division in the company by diluting that division. I did not like them when they first were introduced and I still do not two years later. Championships that never felt like they needed to exist. EDIT: Almost fifteen months since that initial rating and I have grown to dislike these more as time has progressed lowering the rating more."

[3.0] "This belt has been in limbo with Samoa Joe either being away acting in shitty tv shows or challenging for world titles 2 ppvs in a row. Hurt Syndicate/Demand have a ppv match as trios instead of the champions. It's weirdly booked, Tony Khan can't help but book teams to challenge for singles or tag titles. Could be put in the bin and it'd actually improve the product."

[6.0] "I'm torn on this title. They've showcased some cool factions, and the Trios matches themselves are often great, but there really isn't enough time to do them justice, and their pretty consistently booked as an after thought."

[5.0] "It'd be so easy to turn the Trios Titles. Just have them defended. LOTS. And don't be so precious with the lineage! They're Trios belts, there's gonna be lots of opportunities for double-team moves which means they SHOULD be hard to hang onto. The Conglomeration (any iteration) should've won them. Cage Of Agony should've had a run. Hell, the Learning Tree should've had a run! They're a great excuse for high-octane party matches and a great means of getting characters over. Let the Tag belts be the prestigious team belts and be a little fun and loose with the Trios belts! C'mon Tony, let's go!"

[6.0] "AEW's World Trios Titles are better than what some of its critics suggest, they are certainly treated in higher regard than other trios titles previously contested in the United States and they do well to highlight who the dominant faction is of the company. The titles themselves are lower on the totem pole than some of the other titles AEW features, but at least the wrestlers who've held them deserved it and made it feel more equal to a tag title than a trios title."

[0.0] "One of the most if not the most useless championships I've ever seen in AEW. The only thing that mattered was the best of 7 between the Elite and the Death Triangle. Everything since than has been both terrible and forgettable. These titles and the trios division is such a joke, it has no momentum and has no consistent booking. They just put these titles on 3 guys on a stable as props and we forget they exist for months until for a few weeks we're reminded that they exist. House of Black, Acclaimed, BC Gold, Patriarchy and Deathriders ... I can't possibly tell you one match or one feud that was memorable or entertaining. These useless titles has done so much damage to the tag division as well. I'd say get rid of them but they won't. A complete and epic fail."

[2.0] "Completely unimportant titles that Tony Khan obviously doesn't care about. These titles should have been the tag team division's midcard belts, but instead they've become pointless props. The 2 points I've rated it are almost entirely awarded based on the Best-of-Seven series that The Elite and The Lucha Bros gave us. I'd have rated these titles a zero if not for those first few months of the titles' existence. Trios wrestling should be used for the young and inexperienced, the banged up and rehabilitating, and/or the old vets who need to take it easy. Trios wrestling is a great tool for hiding weaknesses, but AEW can't even book that right. It's truly disappointing how anti-prestigious these titles are."

[5.0] "The Acclaimed ruined the good start it had. It hasn't been the same since. The title lost all its importance and now we never even see it. The title shouldn't be a "storyline" title, or a title with long reigns with few defences. It should be defended frequently and change hands frequently, just let random teams compete for it and have crazy nonsense matches."

[5.0] "Belts like this prove only Lucha and Lucha infulaced promotion can book good trios. New Japan for example took nigh on 3 years for its trios belts to be seen by fans as being OK. That says so, thing back when new Japan could do no wrong according to some fans, so AEW are on a long train to nowhere with this. even if it was better booked . They have the talent, but not the booking. 5/10"

[1.0] "An unnecessary title, which ruined the tag category a little bit. The fact that those belts totally disappeared from shows during last months didn't help at all."

[3.0] "The trios titles started off very strongly and had so much potential. I especially loved the best of 7 series between Death Triangle and The Elite. Since then though they've gradually become a waste of time and are barely even defended anymore. The trios division has also harmed the once great tag team division and now both are weak. I hoped things might improve when they united the AEW and ROH trios titles so they could float between shows and utilise both rosters, but they were split again soon after. The booking has been so poor. If they're not going to utilise them they might as well just scrap them. Either that or give Rated FTR a run with them and see if they can revive them."

[5.0] "The AEW Trios Championships started off with so much promise, and I would argue should have been introduced WAY sooner. But basically up through the House of Black's reign, they were treated with importance and care. The House of Black's House Rules things were cool and interesting. But then after the Acclaimed and Billy won them, they sort of stopped mattering. Sure it makes sense for them to have won due to their popularity, but they just don't matter or get featured enough for people to care. Them being on the BCC is cool and all, but we have to wait and see if that will help them in the long run."

[6.0] "[6.0] The weakest belt in AEW right now (Other than the FTW belt, which is technically an outlaw belt so you can decide whether or not it counts) by a huge margin. It feels like this belt has barely done a thing for anyone whose held it. The Elite lost it immediately because of Brawl Out, Death Triangle did okay, House of Black were decent, and I've often forgotten that the Acclaimed have the belts. Hopefully Bullet Club Gold makes these belts work, because they absolutely need a refresh. [EDIT 10/11/2024]: FTW Belt has been retired, so this is now officially the weakest belt in AEW right now. Everything I said above still stands, and it seems like its more being used to further the story of the BCC's breakup with this Claudio/PAC/Yuta reign instead of doing anything itself."

[5.0] "I'm still unsure if creating this title was necessary, as it has struggled to gain any real prestige since its inception. Despite efforts to elevate it, the title has yet to feel significant or important within the promotion, making it seem more like an afterthought than a valued championship."

"This match is a very Fun, Cool and entertaining match, The bits with Christian were the highlight of the match for me in my opinion. 7/10"

"7/10, a good match but nothing more. I think it had some fun spots and every wrestler was given the chance to shine however the moments themselves were unmemorable by the end of the show though the Christian Cage story done was done well."

[5.0] "solid trios ladder match. lots of spots we've seen done a million times before but there was some new stuff in there, like the dual ladder spear through the table. don't think i've seen that before. some pretty shitty acting, and camera shots that linger WAY too long knock some points off of this but a very fun solid match."

[4.0] "I think that AEW had a very good trios division when this title started. Elite and Death Triangle had a good best of 7 series over the tile. Think that as time has gone on this title had less meaning. Hoping Christian Cage can bring back prestige to the title as everything he touches in AEW to gold."

[3.0] "This titles had potential, but after House of Black lost the titles these titles have been treated poorly, with the acclaimed as champions I think we didn't have a single good match on their reign, then the BBG won them and did nothing with them before vacating the titles, let's see if the Patriarchy can make something with them, Christian saved the TNT title so maybe he can save this division too, because why I thought this division was fun at the start, since last year All In it just have been mid"

[3.0] "Unfortunately there has never been a good 6-Man title in wrestling history. Never ever. Not even in Texas (the Von Erich vs. Freebirds feud would be good with or with out it, and besides that feud the title didn't offer anything more). This title is not the exception to the rule. It's a title with no prestige, going around for two years and there have not been any memorable feuds for it. Even the matches are mostly interchangable spotfests. I hope they at least unify this with the ROH title because having both around further devalues this."

[3.0] "I think there was a time and place for these belts, but now what trios does AEW even have? The only interesting champions I can imagine atm are BCC and even then theres not exactly a wide selection of trios to face. This championship could disappear and I wouldn't notice or care. The match quality here fell off the second the elite/death triangle feud ended. The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn have unfortunately not improved these belts standing. AEW has a weak trios division and most of the title defences are against jobbers or trios that are thrown together."

[5.0] "These belts have fallen off hard with the Acclaimed and Gunn, with mediocre matches and too much comedy nonsense. The booking overall needs to change to make these belts interesting again. Make the trios matches all tornado tag rules and use these belts as fast paced, 10 minute party matches to hype up the crowd."

[8.0] "Given the number of factions in AEW, this is a very useful title (especially given the now 5 hours of AEW programming on TBS/TNT). The initial tournament was threaded nicely with existing storylines, and felt like a big deal. They recovered nicely from Brawl Out with the Best of Seven series, which showcased what Trios matches could accomplish from an in-ring perspective. While the Elite-to-HoB exchange was handled very well, and allowed all six wrestlers to shine, it seems like the title has lost a little luster in the HoB-to-Acclaimed transition. If the right feud is booked for the Acclaimed to close out the year (Full Gear into New Year's Smash), I'll edit this score to a 9, " but - for now - I'm comfortable with an "8.""

[5.0] "A nice idea in principle but who could possibly care about a trios championship in an American promotion? If they were used to have a high paced 12 minute opener on TV every week then I can see it would work but instead its back to just being kind of whatever."

[7.0] "Excellent title for tag teams who are hot but have no place at the top of the tag division at the moment. With the advent of two shows, each show needed a place to feature the team belts. House of Black did a lot to put respect on the titles' name in the aftermath of Brawl Out and The Elite's lackluster reign. Ready to see what The Accalimed has in store for them."

[5.0] "I don't know, I never cared about this title. The Elite winning it made sense because it was created only because of them. And then what? I have no idea. Nothing else after the first tournament was something I liked. House of Black were champions for 5 months and I missed their entire reign. Since there's nothing wrong with the title, but I don't think it's satisfactory yet I'm leaving this a 5"

[3.0] "A title born out of pettiness. There was absolutely no reason to create this title when they did because the tag division was set up beautifully for the big rubber match between FTR and Young Bucks, but they decided to go this route. It was then almost immediately vacated in true AEW fashion and the initial Death Triangle reign was completely forgetful as the title went into an immediate holding pattern awaiting the return of The Elite. The Best of 7 series might have been a nice idea on paper but once you've seen one match from those six, you've seen them all, and they knew that so incorporated loads of nonsense gimmick matches. Similarly, The Elite's (second) reign was equally as boring because there was absolutely no jeopardy in any of the matches until House of Black came along. Finally with the belts in a semi-serious booking environment, we might start to see some prestige built up."

[10.0] "Honestly, I had doubts regarding this championship, as Trios Titles have not exactly been successful or done much in American wrestling. There have been some issues(namely the titles being vacated so quickly after the Elite won them), but everything else has been great. The initial tournament to establish the titles was exciting, with great matches like United Empire vs Death Triangle, United Empire vs The Elite, The Elite vs LFI, and the amazing finals match between the Elite and Hangman/Dark Order. Death Triangle had a great run as well, culminating in a very good Best Of Seven Series against the Elite. The Elite had a good, if unspectacular run, while the House Of Black have been uber dominant as champions, and have made the most of having those titles. One of the best parts of AEW programming, in my eyes."

[9.0] "A great championship that although it has had some weird moments with the reign of The Elite and so on I consider it to be one of the best things that AEW has created, although before the trios were more prominent than now. That's funny."

[7.0] "Despite the inglorious beginning with the Brawl Out black eye, and lackadaisical booking during most of Death Triangle's reign, the Trios belts have been spectacular entertainment at times. From the return of the Elite at Full Gear, through the Best of 7 tournament, The Elite and Death Triangle worked their asses off to build these belts up and give them a feeling of importance. After a second short reign, the Elite passed the belts to the very worthy House of Black in another amazing match. How Tony books the House of Black's reign will determine if these belts will be respected, or if they will feel like like an afterthought."

[10.0] "I feel bad for New Japan's trios Belts because no one can't top this. Sure the vacancy put some doubt on it, they immediately put on banger after banger. This belt is the hype of AEW and I can't wait to see the next title defense."

[10.0] "AEW always has very good trios matches so it's a no brainer to introduce a trios belt and it has delivered some of the best trios matches that I've seen!"

"Not here to rate it yet but instead to point out a presumed error in the data. Every match so far in the best of 7 series between The Elite and Death Triangle besides the first one at Full Gear have been non title, yet are listed as being title matches in the database. I would hope a significant error such as that would be fixed."
