WWE European Championship

[2.0] "The decline of this title began with Shawn Michaels, whose shameful victory severely diminished its prestige. It was followed by mediocre champions like Mideon, Triple H, Mark Henry, Val Venis, Spike Dudley, Crash, and many more. Triple H and Shawn's shenanigans continued to plague the title, including Hunter's victory, Henry was still very unexperienced, Mideon was Mideon, and Spike and Crash's overall performance felt like fish out of water. Few positive things happened to the European Championship, with the likes of Owen Hart, Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and little else. The best thing that could have happened to the title was its unification and eventual demise."

[6.0] "While a pretty appreciated part of WWE history now, the European Title remained a lower mid-card title for almost all of its existence. There were a few cool moments involving the title, some great title defenses, but overall it was not that prestigious of a title, certainly lower than the Intercontinental Title. Still, left us with some good memories."

[7.0] "Belt had a good design and several good champions but seemed to get lost in the shuffle at times. Competed with the IC title to be the main midcard title but did not have the history of that belt. Very few of the champions were actually from Europe."

[6.0] "Not gonna lie, bothers the fuck out of me that this was called the European Championship. I get why, it was Bulldog's belt first and foremost, and he made the title in the beginning, but the majority of the holders aren't even from Europe. Two people from Europe. That's it. I'm sorry, ultimately a name doesn't matter in the slightest, but I feel like there should have come a point where it was named the Television title, or something along those lines. Asides from that, there is a lot of good with this belt. Bulldog's and Regal's runs are quite good, and it was sometimes used decently well in storylines, such as Shane McMahon's run with it, funnily enough. But yeah, also Mideon held the belt. Blegh."

[8.0] "The WWF & then for a few months, the WWE European championship tends to be a forgotten and underrated belt in the WWF/E. It was better than the Intercontinental championship in the late 80s or 90s in terms of the mid card title quality, however, in it's own right it was still pretty good with numerous amount of talented individuals holding the belt (Bulldog, Regal, Guerrero, Helmsley, X-Pac, etc). Also wanted to point out, the design of the belt is solid, then again, most of the Attitude Era titles looked great. Though I do have to deduce a few points because the title was not as significant as it should have been."

[7.0] "I always liked it, I wish they kept it around as it worked great for lower mid card guys, now with the US and IC being near the same exact title, it would be fun to have a belt like this around that could give the lower card guys story's to compete for."

[8.0] "I thought this was a classic midcard belt. My favorite European champion was D'lo Brown I enjoyed that era for this belt in general. I know some people wish there was more European European champions, but that doesn't really bother me so much, as I feel like where the wrestler is from should matter less than how good the matches were, and for an era where in ring work didn't always get rewarded, I thought it had plenty of good matches."

[7.0] "Like the similar WCW Television Championship in terms of card placement, WWF's European Championship saw some equally really great moments and seriously shit moments over the course of the Monday Night Wars and beyond. It had a fucking great start with that final tournament match between Bulldog and Owen on RAW and was bounced around some great talent after the fact from Bulldog to Michaels, Owen and HHH but as the Attitude Era went on its stock diminished terribly. D'Lo Brown, Al Snow and X Pac had decent and comedic runs but then we saw bullshit like Mark Henry being fucking straight up handed the title or Mideon finding it in a goddamn gym bag (a trope that seems to be favorite of Russo's) but as we left 99 and moved into 2000 like pretty much all things WWF at the time, it greatly increased in importance as guys like Jericho, Guerrero and Angle getting prominent runs with all the workrate excellency that is to be expected from guys like them but as the Attitude Era began to wind down and the Ruthless Aggression Era move in the belt began to decline in importance once again; Finally being unified in a great title unification match with Jeff Hardy and RVD, ending the title with a high note. Overall, I like this belt and I feel like its highs greatly outweigh its lows."

[8.0] "Always loved this title. Great design, good list of champions, lots of good matches, no idea why the low rating."

[8.0] "I thought this belt was beautiful, it doesn't scream European Championship but it's not horrible either. Has a impressive list of champions and lots of memorable moments, it's sad they got rid out it just when it was getting good."

[5.0] "Always absolutely loved the design of this belt. It's early life featured some notable names like Shawn Michaels & HHH as title holders. But from '98 onwards this was just a midcarder champion belt. Regal did some good with it, but after that it was just anyone's for the taking. Can't say that I can recall any "Classic WWE European Championship matches" at any point, but even so I do kinda miss this belt."

[5.0] "Sure, some big name wrestlers held the title over the years, but I never really cared too much about the title myself. I struggled to see the point of it other than to have another title for wrestlers to fight it out over. Had periods of being hyped up, but for the most part it was unimportant."

[10.0] "It's a symbolcal rate, and now with the UK championships a title like this could be seen as obsolete, but a proper representation of Europe in WWE it's an idea that always touched european fans, this one had the good things of creates some good matches with wrestlers not used in other things, but the problem was the treatment as a random belt soon after the first reigns."

[4.0] "Meaningless name aside, this seemed almost like a title for ECW alumni by the end of its run. Pretty much just there to have another championship without needing to book around any prestige."

[5.0] "Yes, only two actual Europeans (Bulldog and Regal) held it, but it was overall a decent enough third-tier belt during its five-year history - not always being featured in premier storylines, but nonetheless having some good matches fought over it and a good selection of holders during its history. It quickly became redundant after the acquisition of the WCW United States and Cruiserweight Titles, though, and understandably was retired via unification with the Intercontinental belt in 2002."

[7.0] "Never really treated as a top title but held by some of the greatest of all time (HHH, HBK, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Owen Hart, British Bulldog, Chris Jericho) as well as future/former world champions like Mark Henry (bad reign), RVD (momentary), Jeff Hardy, Bradshaw, Christian, DDP, Matt Hardy, while providing notable moments and career highlights for otherwise under decorated wrestlers like D-Lo Brown, Crash Holly, Al Snow, Spike Dudley and William Regal. The X-Pac and Shane McMahon feud was notable too, I felt."

[10.0] "The title doesn't rally live up to it's name, and that's actually a good thing, it shows that not just one nationality has to win it, but everyone, some of the best matches in WWE were for this title."

[9.0] "Take a look at the winners of this title and you will see that it does not discriminate. Made as a less important mid card title compared to the Intercontinetal title, looking back the title was won by the likes of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Rob Van Dam, Bradshaw (JBL), Christian, Mark Henry, and Jeff Hardy all of whom would become World Heavyweight Champions (aside from Michaels who was already champ before he won the title. In addition, upper-midcarders, jobbers and even Vince McMahon's son have held the title and it always remained competitive. Other titles always has some kind of hidden or even obvious pre-requeste before they are won so only a select few can win them. Because this title didn't cater to just one group, winners were always unexpected and fresh and it brought a good deal of depth to WWE's Attitude Era. Sadly the Hardcore title and WCW's title after the InVasion made the European title obsolete but it was great for it's time."
