[10.0] "I genuinely can't believe I'm the first person to rate this tag team. Perhaps it's because their prime was in the 70s, but the Beauty Pair were trailblazers for teams like the Crush Gals and the Jumping Bomb Angels in that they were a technically sound tag team that also ended up becoming big pop stars in Japan - which I've never been able to confirm but which I've always assumed kickstarted the thing where joshi wrestlers in Japan are treated as idols (as in, they're a heavily marketed entertainer commercialized to sell merch and such through parasocial relations, similar to kpop stuff). Jackie Sato is rightfully celebrated, but the Beauty Pair were a massive reason for her success and Maki Ueda was genuinely just as good. Both were very entertaining too! The only reason they aren't more widely recognized is that they disbanded around 1978, with Maki Ueda retiring in 1979 in a "loser leaves town" match against her former tag partner, which happened due to them not getting along terribly well outside of kayfabe (though they reunited after Jackie Sato's death). They also inspired an anime, 'Dirty Pair', and had an entire movie about themselves that they starred in called Red-Hot Youth!"
