[5.0] "The first round starts the tournament well enough, with Nate Webb pulling off an impressive and pleasing heel performance, and while the other matches were messy, Gage/Rotten brought a lot of heat and suspense to their match. The semi-finals struggled more, with Necro/Rotten being very formulaic and unmemorable and Mondo/Zandig being absolutely memorable but also pushing the envelope far beyond the boundaries of common sense, safety and basic human decency. The Finals captivated the crowd and was worked smartly enough to complete the show's story and give a climactic victory to Nick Mondo, to the crowd's utmost delight. Honestly, the quality of wrestling was very iffy and uneven, as these outdoor deathmatch tournament very often hit a ceiling and become self-indulgent and stupidly reckless to their own detriment, yet you have to admire the way Nick Mondo was build up through the night, with the full support of the fans, and achieved the ultimate victory that capped off the night perfectly and became the crowning achievement of his career and his legacy. Still, it must be considered that the stupidity and recklessness of the tournament, especially the demented semi-finals with Zandig, lead to his injuries and his permanent retirement from wrestling, which taints the memories of the event and ultimately makes the tournament a complete mixed bag, but one of the most unique and memorable from this brand of CZW Ultraviolence."
