[7.0] "Matt Taven isn't nearly as bad as his detractors make it out to be - On a bad day, he's proven to be a more than capable league-level tag team champion. On a good day, he can even be a promotion's main eventer. That said, it was a serious booking mistake on ROH's part to not have given Marty Scurll the win at the G1 Supercard and it devalued the promotion - While not all Taven's fault, he owns some of it. That said, he found his spot and does well when featured for AEW, ROH, New Japan, TNA, or CMLL."
[2.0] "What does this guy even do in AEW, like seriously other than hanging around Roddy and that other guy he has pretty much done nothing do justify the TV time he gets the past 12 months or so. I've seen him wrestle a few times on Aew TV and I can't recall a single spot from any of the matches he has had like the only match I have vague recollection of is the mjf vs Devil's masked men match for the sheer absurdity of it all, heck the less said about that damn stupid angle leading up to and post full gear the better. The TL; DR version is this guy is as bland a wrestler could ever be, he has no charisma to speak of, no mic skills and his ring work doesn't distinguish him from the thousands of similar wrestlers out there."
[7.0] "Matt Taven is a wrestler who I have honestly never understood the hate for. I know he isn't the greatest in ring wrestler, but he's well above decent. Plus he is very charismatic and a great promo. His arrival in AEW, I think, has shown everyone else just how good he is. If only he was given more chances to show his skills."

When required, he can go too. There are people on here openly admitting they have never seen him wrestle but rating him anyway which is weird behavior."
[5.0] "Just... a dude. A guy. Nothing special, nothing stands out, no stand-out matches in 10+ years. It's hard to even write anything about him because there's really not much to talk about? average look, matches, promos, everything."
[7.0] "It surprises me that Matt Taven's average on here is below a 7, because I feel like he's actually a pretty good talent to have. Decent charisma and wrestling skills can get anyone over with the right set of tools, and Taven seems to get ahold of those tools when he's tagging with Bennett. I would like to see him have another singles title run in ROH, but being in the tag division seems to be a good fit for him right now. Now that he's in one of AEW's top heel factions, I'm hopeful that people will see that Taven is a good wrestler and an even better tag team player."

His becoming ROH champion made sense with the track record of the company and the timing of the company's struggle before being picked up by tony khan. I think he's a decent sell and villain character. He is entertaining and fits a solid mid-carder role in his current career. Anything above that I'm hesitant about can come to life."
[4.0] "The love child of a crack binge between Kenny Omega and Ace Austin. That's about all I can say as I haven't seen him wrestle, but he does look like jobber #17 on an episode of Velocity."
[4.0] "I don't as of yet have scientific proof that Matt Taven is literally every North American indie wrestler, but I've found enough evidence to form the hypothesis."
[7.0] "I think Taven's got a lot of poise and potential to be the top dog in the next five to ten years. It wouldn't be a shock to me if he once again is a world champion anywhere he goes."

[6.0] "I know a lot of people like to pile on him for being the first death nail in ROH's coffin before they were bought out by AEW but the fact is that ROH was in deep trouble long before Matt became world champion. Blaming him for a situation that was far out of his control is really unfair to Taven. The fact of the matter is, Taven is simply an OK singles wrestler who's at his absolute best when he's teaming with Bennett. He's solid in the ring but he's nowhere near talented nor charismatic enough to justify turning him into the poster boy of your company. Sure, him winning the world title over Marty Scurrl maybe a massive bullet dodged in hindsight but at the time it was seen as yet another boneheaded decision by a promotion that no longer had its finger on the pulse of the indie wrestling scene. But again, it wasn't Taven's fault that ROH died, ROH was already in a downward spiral, Taven just wasn't the guy to pull the company out of that spiral, nor should he have been expected to be."
[8.0] "Matt Taven hasn't that good in-ring skills but i feel his character work and charisma alone can make him future main eventer in Impact Wrestling. Or he can be successful in Indies too."

He's better kept in the midcard and if possible in tag matches or singles under 15 minutes because he really struggles to keep things interesting when he has the spotlight on himself, but can hold his own among other talent."

He's spent a lot of his RoH run working with, and carrying, lesser workers which drags down his resume but also gives points in his favor from trying his damndest to make stuff work. Good utility player and I'm glad RoH is rewarding him."

I feel like he looked like a total coward at the CMLL 85th press conference, Rush was totally making fun of Matt in the worst way and Taven just did nothing. Without a posse of followers, without blonde hair, would Taven be as highly over as he currently is? I am not saying I hate him, he has good bones and he is a very witty guy. He called me a virgin on twitter over something or other, but it was funny af in the circumstances and I have respect for heels who aren't afraid to be bastards. Too bad on TV he acts like a gigolo so far."

A mainstay for several years in the northeastern/New England indy scene, Taven's time in ROH - first with the House of Truth and now with the Kingdom - has allowed him to grow as a performer, and he has become a reliable midcard high-flyer and tag team specialist. His recent tours of Japan also seem to be influencing his game, with more than one reporter pointing out some shades of Tanahashi in his recent work. A solid midcard fixture now, and time will tell if he will break out as a major singles player down the line - the potential is certainly there."

[7.0] "I wasn't a fan of Matt Taven before he got paired up with Truth Martini, but ever since he first got Truth Martini to manage him, unexpectedly won the ROH TV title out of nowhere from Adam Cole, and then brought along the Hoopla Hotties to manage him as well, I've become a supporter of his at least. The guy can wrestle and he has had a very edgy, dirty, and risque heel persona for close to a year that has gotten him pretty over with the people so he's obviously doing something right. Throughout the first couple months that he's had this persona though, it seemed like Truth Martini did almost all of his talking for him and he wasn't getting as over as Truth Martini, but now thankfully he's been standing out along with Truth Martini by starting to talk more and he's been cutting some good promos lately! He has made me care about him at least a little bit more because of that which is a good thing!"
[9.0] "Taven is a lot better than he's been given credit for. He hasn't held the ROH TV title for as long as he has for no reason; the kid's good, and he has a lot to offer pro-wrestling. I can see World titles in this guy's future, and a contract with a big promotion."
