As Papa Shango he shook us with fear but The Godfather was all about that fun-loving, good-time, party atmosphere. A feeling we always enjoyed whenever he was on-screen with those lovely ladies. And so I roll a fatty in honor of this pimp daddy. Gonna light that blunt up & say PIMPIN AINT EASY"

It feels incredibly passe now but teenage me did quite enjoy the Godfather stuff. In an alternative universe, he never got the Godfather gimmick and does occasional one shots in GCW as Papa Shango. If WWE had a sense of humour he would enter the rumble in that gimmick."

He played characters very well. Did have a peak in the midcard but was still a very enjoyable presence with a long tenure."

Huge man and perfectly passable in the ring, if not exceptional, he more than compensated by being highly charismatic and loads of fun as The Godfather. At least one bonus point for being in the Nation of Domination and a legit Voodoo curse upon anyone who still insists that Papa Shango was shit."

I'm one of the few oddballs who liked Papa Shango more than the Godfather. Shame that the character wasn't well received and better developed."

[6.0] "Hard to rate, so I will choose the math route. The Soultaker was perfect for The Global Wrestling Federation (7.75). Papa Shango was the logical continuation of the look and is criminally underrated; that's some of my favorite wrestlecrap! LOVED the entrance music and that was my go to character in the Sega Genesis version of Royal Rumble. Killer looking shoulder breaker... (8). Kama was silly, with all of those tats - he's either Soultaker or Papa Shango, none of us bought he was some MMA guy. It was a good gimmick *IN THEORY* but, cmon. That's Papa Shango! (4). His stint in The Nation of Domination worked (6). The Godfather did almost NOTHING in the ring but who doesn't love that gimmick? Its beyond ridiculous. When I rewatched the rise of The Godfather a few years ago I would take a hit every time he started his pre match promo and laughed with it all, BUT his ring work was ULTRA DULL and he ALWAYS LOST (6). His time in Right to Censor wasn't very good and that was definitely the Stevie Richards n Ivory show (4). The average is 5.95 rounded up. I feel like I'm being extremely generous..."

[7.0] "What always stood out to me about Charles Wright was his ability to be overly believable in any character he was given due to his commitment to making them work. Papa Shango scared me to death as a kid, KAMA I believed to be a real tough guy who could beat anyone up, same when he moved to the kama mustafa character (he was the LEGIT toughest guy in the whole nation outside of Ron Simmons), then the godfather was one of the most over acts of its time. He was entertaining, he was charismatic, he had the look, he had the size, he could get whatever reaction he was looking to get out of the crowd based on whatever character he was at the time, and he could cut one heck of a promo. Yeah, he was not very memorable in the ring as far as in ring work, but when you're that over as a personality I don't think it matters. He had a lot of memorable segments as well across all 4 characters."

Then he got repackaged into Kama the Supreme Fighting Machine which was meh, then he joined the Nation Of Domination as Kama Mustafa, meh again. Charles didn't hit it big until he became the Godfather. For about a year he was pretty over because the wrestling pimp fit right into that trashy Attitude Era. His ring work wasn't impressive."

Leth99 wrote on 23.07.2022:

Remember that time godfathers ho won the hardcore championship for like 10 seconds lol I? ll never forget it. The only way to really appreciate the godfather and some of the other filler characters from that time period is to go back and watch the attitude era, episode by episode. He had some decent matches and was by no means bad in the ring but his best stuff was the promos and backstage comedy segments."

ElPolloLoco wrote on 12.06.2020:
[5.0] "Charles Wright started wrestling late and his in-ring skills were pretty subpar but he filled the 90's midcard position just fine, albeit he was given some pretty awful gimmicks. The Godfather would be impossible to pull off nowadays but back in the days he was amazingly over, possibly the most over WWE midcarder at a time, and Charles Wright played the part really well. It was a classic case of a wrestler playing a character to perfection."

[4.0] "The pimp character never worked for me. I know the Attitude Era loved it, but I always found it like a long walk for a short glass of water. All fluff & little substance. And the substance we got didn't work for me. News flash... a pimp is a despicable person. Why do I want to cheer a dude who treats women like objects? As for the other characters: I actually thought that both Papa Shango & Kama had potential. I actually liked the "supreme fighting machine" concept a lot. But the execution fell short. In ring work was never really there & it seemed that Wright could only handle the basics."

[7.0] "He wasn't a bad wrestler at all. Great physique, very tall at 6"6 and his tattoos are awesome. I am very surprised that he is in the Hall of Fame. The issues that I did not like about him were the gimmicks he had. Papa Shango was an overrated heel as a mock of the Undertaker. When he was Kama "the Supreme Fighting Machine" it was terrible. Kama Mustafa when he was with Nation of Domination was alright. The Godfahter was his greatest but the gimmick was a little too cheesy. The Ho Train was always very interesting. When he transformed to the Goodfather of Right To Censor it was horrible."
