[6.0] "Bas is a MMA legend for a damn good reason: that said, his wrestling days were limited and likely wouldn't have gone far given his long list of injuries: Pancrase had him fight in 6 to 7 matches a YEAR, which if you think about it is insane by modern MMA standards. His body was wrecked by 1999 and even today the guy can't even work out normally because of nerve damage. That said, Bas was a pure natural when it came to wrestling: his famous charisma and intensity made him a easy fit, even if he was admittedly rather green and would often do random shit in the ring (like doing the motion for a Frankensteiner but then not hooking the legs and just kinda awkwardly flopping on his opponent). Despite this his matches often did work out well when he was with someone experienced enough to work around his limitations."

[10.0] "Bas Rutten is my favourite MMA fighter of all time, and nobody even comes close. The legitimacy of his run in Pancrase is up for debate (as seen in the famous matches with Masakatsu Funaki and Frank Shamrock, it's hard to see the exact line between a real fight and a work, if there even was a line to begin with). Bas had a very brief stint in NJPW, if which we can be certain was worked professional wrestling, and of all the fighters that came in during the dark days of Inokism, Bas Rutten was the best one, and among the few that genuinely wanted to work. In another reality, Bas Rutten is among the greatest wrestlers to have ever lived. In our reality, it's debatable, as I explained. Regardless, his influence on modern combat sports (which includes professional wrestling) is immense and very much understated; Pancrase had a huge influence on Japanese wrestling, and Bas was THE guy, THE trendsetter, THE bar set incredibly high, when Pancrase was at its peak. Perfect score, if there ever was one."

[8.0] "His run in professional wrestling is a bit short to give an accurate rating, but on the whole, his career in combat sports, including Pancrase, deserves significant recognition. He did have good matches with Kanemoto, Nagata, Nakanishi, and others, and was a smart worker when it counted."
