His technique, moveset and the many feuds he had, especially with Bret makes him even better. Whether he is a heel or a face, he is a pleasure to see wrestle. Aside from his backstage issues back in the days, he will be remembered as one if not the wrestler of all time. |

If we're purely going by the work he put out in the '80s and '90s, he'd be sitting around a seven or an eight. It's only during Shawn's second run that we can make a case for him being an all-time great. He wasn't the best in-ring performer to ever lace 'em up but he was easily the best overall performer not named Kurt Angle or Brock Lesnar to wrestle in a WWE ring by the time he hung 'em up. |

34 | 16.08.2025 | jwsinclair | | What strikes me about Shawn's matches--and the thing that makes him stand out above some of the others in the "greatest in-ring performer" conversation--is that he had a way of making pro wrestling seem *real*. Not in the sense that someone like Brock Lesnar or Ronda Rousey might incorporate combat sports into their style, but in a way that is deeply true to pro wrestling. It's a sport--and I say this with the greatest affection--built around cartoon logic, and Shawn Michaels knew better than anyone how to tell a story that exists within that world, but somehow also makes sense (and is compelling and dramatic and real) outside of it. I could say a lot more that would mostly just echo a lot of the points below, so I'll just add that (IMO) the most underrated part of his career is how safe he was in the ring--not always to himself, but to his opponents. There may be a counterexample here or there, but I've never heard of another wrestler being injured by one of his moves. |

47 | 14.07.2025 | TexasAxeCowboy | 0.0 | Shawn Michaels is honestly one of the worst wrestlers in history. He was the guy who set a terrible precedent for future high flyers and spot wrestlers -- guys who care more about flashy moves than actual match psychology. His finisher? Just a basic-ass superkick. No setup, no psychology behind it, nothing. He'd hit it outta nowhere and that was it -- match over. Super underwhelming, especially for someone with his style. Let's not forget, Shawn killed Bret Hart and Vader's careers with his backstage politics and constant lobbying. Dude had so much pull for a while that people straight-up hated him. Even his selling was overrated. He was an overseller -- just watch the 1992 Royal Rumble when he sold for Texas Tornado. It was ridiculous, pure cartoonish nonsense. Shawn literally derailed the natural evolution of pro wrestling in the U.S. He brought too much "producer-style" influence into matches, trying to choreograph everything like a stage show. With his over-the-top theatrics, he made a lotta people back then start thinking wrestling was fake. And don't even get me started on his NXT booking. It's a mess. Constant no-sells, way too much overacting, and they're pumping out a bunch of wrestlers who have no idea how to tell a story in the ring. |

56 | 03.07.2025 | jamesdavismcallister | 10.0 | When you talk about the greatest wrestlers of all time, Shawn Michaels is undeniably in that elite conversation. "The Heartbreak Kid, " "The Showstopper, " "Mr. WrestleMania" - his nicknames alone tell you he's synonymous with legendary performances. What truly sets Shawn Michaels apart is his unparalleled ability to combine athleticism, storytelling, and pure, unadulterated charisma. He could do it all in the ring: high-flying maneuvers, technical wrestling, incredible brawls, and perhaps most famously, some of the most dramatic and believable selling in the history of the business. He made every opponent look good, and every match feel like a main event. His career is a testament to his greatness. From his explosive singles debut, the iconic Ladder Match with Razor Ramon at WrestleMania X, to his "boyhood dream" coming true at WrestleMania XII, and then his incredible second act after a career-threatening injury, where he delivered even more classics against opponents like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and, of course, his epic two-part saga with The Undertaker at WrestleManias 25 and 26. These matches are considered some of the best in history for a reason. Beyond the in-ring work, Shawn Michaels had an incredible connection with the audience. Whether he was the arrogant "Sexy Boy" or the beloved veteran, he always commanded attention. He truly is one of a kind, a generational talent who influenced countless wrestlers and left an indelible mark on professional wrestling. |

60 | 21.06.2025 | bherbert1980 | 5.0 | Shawn Michaels is often hailed as one of the greatest of all time, but that legacy tends to benefit from selective memory. This is coming from someone who idolized him and considered him the GOAT until more recently taking a step back and analyzing the career of my childhood hero. His promos fit the mold of what was popular at the time. They weren't necessarily good--just timely. His career, if anything, was defined by chaos. People like to focus on the highs--the returns, the big matches, the emotional comebacks--but the lows were just as significant and far more damaging. Backstage politics, selfishness, and instability followed him for years, and those parts don't get nearly enough scrutiny. His "redemption arc" tends to over-romanticize someone who left a lot of wreckage in his wake. His character work was rarely original; most of it felt like it belonged to someone else or leaned on the culture of the moment. Ironically, his most entertaining run might have been in DX's later comedic years when it became more absurd and less crude. What truly redeems him is his work behind the scenes in NXT--finally giving back to the business in a constructive way. That's the Michaels who deserves credit, not the myth of the HeartBreak Kid |

69 | 27.05.2025 | RockYourLifeAway | 10.0 | Shawn Michaels might not be the greatest technical wrestler, he might not the best on the mic or have the most captivating look out of anyone, but, at least as far as American wrestling is concerned, he might be one of, if not the most "in-tune" wrestlers out there. His innate understanding of how a match flows has allowed him to create masterful matches with nearly any opponent thrown his away, all the way from the start until the end of his career, where, during his final matches against The Undertaker, his ability to tell stories in the ring reached its peak. Along the way, he has shaped wrestling through innovation and controversy, whether that be by establishing entire match types/stipulations (Ladder, Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber, etc.) or by blending together his genuine development as a human with the character development of his kayfabe self. More than with any other wrestler in the American tradition, I think when you watch a Shawn Michaels match, you can be sure to say: "Wrestling is a beautiful art." |

73 | 22.05.2025 | HBKY2J | 10.0 | My favourite wrestler ever and it will be that way forever. Shawn is an unbelievable performer. He literally had two careers and both were hall of fame worthy but for different reasons. 1st half from 88-98 and 2nd from 02-10. The first half is about him winning championships and having stellar matches with the likes of Bret Hart, British Bulldog, Undertaker, Razor Ramon, Steve Austin etc. He was very agile and athletic despite being smaller in size compared to the wrestlers who were often pushed during the Golden Era. Shawn's promowork during the first half of his career was also great. The only negative was his behavior and backstage politics. However, if it wasn't for the second half, Shawn Michaels might not have been my favourite wrestler. He became more technical, told better stories and started putting talent over(expect that hogan match). Shawn didn't need a world title to look great. IMO, Shawn had even better matches in his second run with the likes of Angle, Undertaker, Cena, Jericho, HHH, Benoit, Edge, Orton etc. For me , the greatest in-ring performer I have ever seen. He is after all The Show Stopper and more importantly, Mr.Wrestlemania |

When he came back from a near career ending back injury, you could argue this run was even better than his first one pre injury. The showstopper. The amount of sons he has in the business today is insane. Who would have thought Shawn would be giving back the way he has by doing what hes doing with Nxt? One of the greatest wrestlers of all time who for some reason folks try to act like he wasnt all that, when he was. Yall just mad he is better than a lot of your favs. Till this day he has too many matches and moment that continue to stand the rest of time. A true trailblazer of this business and helped played a big part in the perception of how smaller would be looked at when it came to be being marquee wrestlers for the better. Played a pivotal role in every era he wrestled in. Whether it be as a tag guy, as the face of the company, it didnt matter what his role was, whatever they had Shawn do, he hit it out of the park. A man who's had a legendary 25 year career, starting in AWA where he started as a singles competitor until he formed the legendary tag team with Marty Jannetty, The Rockers. A tag team that was so good, and over, that the WWF had to sign them, caught the attention of Vince McMahon. Despite they got fired on their first day in WWF due to a bar fight, they got rehired sometime after, wounded up being one of the most popular tag teams in the WWF's history. Then the team split up in iconic fashion where Shawn Michaels turned heel in the infamous Barber Shop Incident, which was the beginning for Shawn Michaels as a solo competitor while the downfall of Marty Jannetty. Shawn Michaels ended up becoming Intercontinental and WWF Champion during this run in the 1990s as singles, competing with the likes of Razor Ramon and Bret Hart over the belts, matches that still feature iconic moments implanted into the brains of professional wrestling fans to this day. Sadly, Shawn Michaels injured his lower back during a casket match with The Undertaker at the Royal Rumble 1998, which lead to him retiring from in ring for awhile. Thankfully, he got his iconic comeback run in the 2000s, Shawn Michaels was one of WWE's best performer in the 2000s with no doubt, having the match of the night whether he was main eventing or somewhere in the middle of the card, Shawn Michaels always tore the house down facing the likes of Triple H, Shelton Benjamin, Chris Jericho, The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, John Cena, Ric Flair, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, Edge, Rey Mysterio, and so many more to name. He ended up retiring in his final match (what do you mean he competed in 2018, that's not true) against The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVI, ended his career on a high note. Overall, Shawn Michaels is one of the most complete wrestlers to ever step foot in the ring. He's one of the best wrestlers in the ring, was very charismatic, a great worker who could be a heel and face at any given time, really solid on the microphone, he could do anything you'd ask him to do. |
