119.07.2025ICtheFourthColour10.0Stone Cold Steve Austin endured an unmatched peak in what became revered as the Attitude Era. The most beloved superstar I can recall. The Steve Austin - Vince McMahon rivalry produced a tremendous amount of unforgettable segments throughout the late 90s and early 00s. That very rare air of great in ring worker but combined with a generational promo ability. Austin 3:16 and the rest of his merch is the best selling of all time, comments suggesting otherwise are simply incorrect.
219.07.2025danzitorock10.0One of my favorite wrestlers of all time, Steve Austin's popularity at his peak is almost unmatched in pro-wrestling history, the man was the most popular face around the Attitude Era, the hottest period in the history of the WWE, and that's mainly because of him, and his heated feuds with guys like Vince McMahon, The Rock, Bret Hart, Triple H, etc... Ever since the beginning, in USWA and WCW, Steve was considered a top prospect, capable of having incredible matches, and with refined technique, a very skilled wrestler, that's why he was called the 'Ringmaster' when arrived at WWF for example, he was a standard for ring skill, and people that say otherwise are absolutely stupid, and don't know his trajectory very well. Austin never found himself at WCW, with a generic gimmick and the disregard of Eric Bischoff, he went to the WWF and rebuilt his character around an edgy badass persona, the 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, a guy that drank beer, threw the middle finger whenever around, beat his boss, and was just a total menace. This character would set the tone for the revival of WWF, into finally defeating WCW in the ratings, and crushing the competition, ultimately winning the Monday Night Wars. His cultural impact is tremendous, everyone wanted to be like Austin, he was the ultimate babyface, but not like an usual babyface, he didn't gave a damn, and that's what people wanted to see at the time. Austin is involved in some of my favorite matches ever, and I like everything about him, every phase of his career, which was much shorter than it should've, it's a shame he couldn't wrestle for a lot of time because of the injuries, but during that small amount of time, he was the best thing ever for sure.

1825.05.2025boyish joshi7.0I've noticed that, on this website, wrestler ratings are affected by a lot of, let's say, external factors. From political opinions, to backstage drama, to personal life choices, even. You can see that reflected in Hogan's. Or in Snuka, Benoit, Invader #1, etc (more extreme cases, of course). This is very hypocritical and often affects wrestlers who are deemed to be public enemy #1 by the wrestling community or media/the public eye, while yet here in cases like Austin, his rating is through the roof even though he's a convicted wife beater. I'd say that's a little worse than saying the n-word. If him opening a can of whoop-ass on his wife isn't enough to lower his rating, how about how he was also quite the diva when it came to his booking and backstage drama politicking, too. Hogan's gets a lot of shit for it but it was common that the top babyface draw of the company would consider who to put over and not and how to protect his image. Austin was infamous for no-showing as well, very unprofessional if you ask me. So, how come the WWF's Attitude Era mega star isn't held to the same standards? His image is very much protected by the WWE, who are very meticulous on how to revise history and tell it how they see fit. 90s Nostalgia is still quite strong on people, Austin being at the height of those times, and he doesn't have detractors nowadays. He stays out of political discussion to my knowledge, too, and isn't involved in many controversies now, so he isn't an easy target. Why do I bring this stuff, then? To point out hypocrisy I guess. I value most of all what happens in the ring, and if this stuff doesn't affect Austin, it shouldn't affect the other wrestlers either. Ring wise, Austin doesn't do anything for me. He's a bruiser but all of his matches are the same and he's very botch-prone. I roll my eyes everytime he goes into the audience's sector and you can't even see what is going on aside from punches and kicks. When he IS inside of the ring, it's more or less the same unhinged brawling but with a stunner. People remember his rivarly with The Rock for the promos and TV-segments. And it's natural, there's nothing memorable at all about their matches lol. It's just punch punch stunner. WM15 and 17 are almost carbon copies of each other if not for the fact that "oh he turned heel at the end! ". "B-but he was the ring-master or something in WCW! " Seen it, it's just a name, he was pretty unremarkable before his injury, too. Austin's era is one of promos and charisma (Attitude...) and he excelled at it and was incredibly entertaining to see and cheer for. He changed the business and drew a lot. For his character and charisma alone I rate him a seven but ouside of that I can't see how he can be rated as the greatest wrestler. Oh right, WWE and their narrative.

The face of the Attitude era and the "good ol' days" of wrestling. He had EVERYTHING you could ask from a wrestler and more, the star power, the intensity, the toughness, the entrance, the aura, the charisma, the in-ring ability. Stone Cold will forever be the GOAT.

3829.04.2025JediSaiyanMaster120310.0"Stone Cold" Steve Austin is, arguably, the biggest icon in professional wrestling history, he did so much for the business in such a short period of time that not many could make claim to, his "Austin 3:16" shirt is still worn and sold to millions to this day after all these years later. Steve Austin has always had the "IT" factor no matter what company he competed in, even if they held him back and gave him a glass ceiling. He was amazing in the Hollywood Blonds with Brian Pillman in WCW, despite Eric Bischoff didn't want them to get over, which ultimately didn't sit well with everyone in the office and the bigger names at the time. He also was part of one of the best factions of all time, The Dangerous Alliance, having an involvement in the best WarGames match to ever take place. Steve got fired via FedEx while he was injured, thankfully, Paul Heyman hired him in ECW where he let him straight up say whatever he wanted, most of them being disses to WCW and calling out how shady Eric Bischoff was, all of it was amazing and hard to believe all happened during a time when kayfabe was alive and well. He eventually leaves ECW to go compete in WWF, where he started out as the Ring master who is managed by Ted DiBiase, which wasn't a good gimmick. Steve Austin did find his true self in 1996/1997 when he unleashed the "Stone Cold" persona and cut the legendary "Austin 3:16" promo, and truly became a star after WrestleMania 13 in his match with Bret Hart, which I consider to be the best WWE match of all time. Steve Austin then gets injured by Owen Hart by accident, has to limit his style in the ring, but still remains at the top and goes on to become WWF Champion multiple times, having classics with the likes of The Rock, Triple H, The Undertaker, Mick Foley to name a few. Sadly, his time was cut short due to the neck injury he sustained in 1997. While his time at the top wasn't the longest, his impact can still be felt to this day. Overall, Steve Austin is one of the all time best professional wrestlers to ever pick up a microphone and hit the Stone Cold Stunner on anyone (one of the best finishers as well), And That's The Bottom Line, Because Stone Cold Said So!
3925.04.2025ChuongNguyen10.0At his peak, Stone Cold Steve Austin had the wrestling world at the palm of his hands. He is in many ways a populist hero - willing to do anything to stick it to the man. There will be no other like him.

4809.04.2025AbeLincoln10.0Austin is undeniably one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. His charisma, in-ring psychology, and unmatched mic skills helped usher in the legendary Attitude Era, transforming into a cultural juggernaut. Stone Cold connected with fans through his rebellious, no-nonsense persona, becoming a symbol of anti-authority at a time when audiences craved something real. His feuds, particularly with Vince, Bret and Rock, are still hailed as some of the most iconic in wrestling history. Beyond the beer baths and Stunners, Austin was a skilled technician and brawler, able to adapt his style post-injury without losing impact. His influence is still felt today, and his legacy is cemented as a game-changer who redefined what it meant to be the top star... The " What? " chant was always awful though!

5007.04.2025RipMonroe10.0Steve is up there on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling for sure, to create such insane moments in his short time in the WWF/E is incredible, a few only manage to do it in careers that span decades and most never will. Stone Cold was a symbol for the everyday working man that wanted to tell his boss off, his feud with Vince was fantastic and his contribution to the attitude era alone gets him a 10. The sheer difference why he gets a 10 and Hogan doesn't is because Steve never would go on to constantly tarnish his legacy in ring like many others (Hogan, Flair etc) primarily by not overstaying his welcome in this business and leaving on an overall high note. He even came back nearly 20 years later for a match at Wrestlemania and had a fun entertaining brawl with Kevin Owens that felt like an old Stone Cold Match. His promos were top notch, his character work was incredible and his in ring was always solid, one of the GOATs.

8329.01.2025wrestlingswiftie8.0A little overrated, but still very good. I prefer him over The Rock, but that doesn't mean I prefer his half of the Attitude Era over The Rock's. It was repetitive, trash TV. Imagine Jerry Springer with short phony looking punches-and-kicks matches (and DQ finishes.) But back to Stone Cold himself, he was solid. Once again he is a little overrated, but it's mainly by dads who wanna relive the glory days. Pre-Rattlesnake Austin was decent in the ring, but once he went to the WWE, and got that neck injury? His match quality drastically decreased. As far as promos go, he actually was good as his famous Rattlesnake gimmick, it's just that he was just better when he was on the come up instead of when he was the top guy. The Bret match, the raw and authentic promos, I'm talking about that sweet spot from 1996-'97. But when he became the face of the company, he, much like his era, was just too repetitive to be enjoyable.

Once that glass shatters the whole place goes nuts and starts freaking out. Stone Cold is the most iconic wrestler of all time, from him pushing Mike Tyson, his feud with Vince & The Rock and of course him chugging beer. He has the most famous segments of all time. The Texas Rattlesnake is also amazing on the mic and in the ring, his Austin 316 promo is one of the greatest promos of all time. He's also had some banger matches with the likes of The Rock, Bret Hart, Triple H & Kurt Angle. Austin is also a 3x Royal Rumble Winner, 4x WrestleMania Main Eventer, 6x WWF Champion, 2x Intercontinental Champion, 3x WCW United States Champion, 4x Tag Team Champion & 1x King of the Ring. Stone Cold Steve Austin is without a doubt on the mount Rushmore of Wrestling. He might even be the Goat.
