The thing is though, if you actually look him up, he was honestly pretty good, just was working during a time where someone like him didn't really belong in terms of his style of wrestling (gimmick wise oh he definitely fit). Charisma wise he was fucking excellent, he was a good worker, and most importantly, Frankie is one of the best birds in professional wrestling. But I think what got him in the hall of fame is Piledriver. Dude, he's quite literally the highlight of The Wrestling Album II, because he sang his fucking heart out. |

Be he part of the Pretty Young Thangs with Norvell Austin (who was the polar opposite of "pretty") or the WWF's crooning & colorful "Birdman". As a heel he had little to no credibility and was never underhanded enough to be conceived as a threat. Dynamite in the ring and chemistry with plenty. Behind the mic, few were as comfortable as Koko. I enjoyed his pairing with Owen Hart, be it "Blue Blazer" era or High Energy. I don't think I like much of what he did in Memphis though. Awesome dropkick, watch his UWF material and be wowed. Gonna circle back to the PYT's, who did great in Mid South, but only so-so in World Class. Under rated because he was slipped into Vince's Hall of Fame and many feel he didn't deserve it (it's VINCE'S Hall of Fame, not mine nor yours). Quite watchable, except when a heel as he's too innoxious. Also, the High Energy era look was deeply regrettable. EDIT: The more I watch, the more I appreciate. His Brainbuster was/is top tier. His Missile Dropkick could be devastating. As noted, he had chemistry with many such as Rick Rude, Don Muraco, The One Man Gang/Akeem and super heavyweights in general. Looked fantastic in blue & yellow but I simply appreciate his commitment overall to a colorful character. Underrated like all kinds of heck and I could keep singing praises about his babyface work...( like the fact that he didn't phone it in at house shows) 7.75 |
