It's tough because WWE didn't use him on the main roster correctly and some people might only base it on that. However, in Mexico and even NXT he's been great and the total package. He did need a manger in Vega and that partnership worked great. His partnership with Vicki Guerrero was more of a miss however and he has shown, when used right, he can pass without a manager. Consistency might be his biggest issue as he can be disappointing at times and his AEW run has provided some of those but has gotten better lately. I keep hearing WWE wants more Hispanic wrestlers and have been looking for a long time for the next Eddie Guerrero or Rey Mysterio. Every time they find someone good though they screw them up. Andrade has to be one of their biggest misses in recent memory."

I never considered a him a major star, even after his (massively overrated) NXT match with Gargano, but I always thought he had a lot of potential if he was allowed to just go out and wrestle each week without any restraints. AEW has done well in giving him an interesting character thus far, and he's had some really good matches and individual performances in his time in the company so far. He just needs to get more consistent TV time and progress his feuds further, and then he could really become something resembling a star."

[7.0] "My main gripe with Andrade is that his character is, and has always been, "good wrestler who wrestles good" and nothing else. While he's a very fluid act that can put on some really fun stylistic matches (either big athletic spot shows or more grounded affairs) and he's undoubtedly very talented, there's nothing that really makes me interested in him beyond that. It's a problem that almost killed his WWE career before it even really started because crowds didn't care for him as a bland babyface who's character was null and void, he needed Vega to provide that voice for him to really step it up a gear. In AEW, there's nothing interesting beyond the ring work: he comes out with the masks and the fancy suits but unlike guys like Naito, who incorporated that into their character as a whole, Andrade does nothing with that, and it doesn't help they keep giving him different managers over and over. He's had good matches with some fun stuff in them, but there's no fire to them, so to speak, rather aimless. He's a talent that needs to be strictly directed to be truly fantastic, otherwise you kinda get him going off track a ton."
[8.0] "Andrade is a very very good wrestler. His moves are incredibly crisp and he's a great mixture of a lucha libre style and more grounded wrestling. His selling is really good too. He has a great look and exudes a ton of physical charisma. His main weakness however is his mediocre promo ability (in English, at least). I commend him for trying to improve but I think he works best with a manager who can talk for him, ala Zelina Vega who he had in WWE. Very good overall, and if he continues to improve his promos, I may come back and rate him higher."

His two matches(so far) with PAC have been must watch and his character is starting to develop as seen recently with doing with business with the Pinnacle and now with M. Black. [9.0] "Only a 9 because of his apparent need for an English-speaking manager and not already having a body of work that's up to par with the greats, but I expect Andrade will further add to his resume the more he is properly used. Was one of the biggest stars of CMLL when he left, coming across as highly charismatic despite wearing a mask for the majority of his run. During that tenure he also won the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from NJPW's King of Strong Style, Shinsuke Nakamura. From the time he turned heel in NXT to when Ciampa returned he was their best worker. He's already put on arguably the best match in WWE (vs Gargano at TakeOver: Philadelphia) and, when given the chance, has delivered on some of the best matches last year with Rey Mysterio. The fact that he hasn't held a title since being called up to the main roster in early 2018 is a fault on WWE's part, not Andrade's. People might think I'm overrating the man, but I have no doubt that Andrade could jump ship to any other major promotion in the world, and would eventually become a World Champion. Andrade might prove to be the greatest Mexican wrestler we've seen thus far, and we are fortunate enough to witness his rise."
[9.0] "We realized his talent when he was allied to Zelina Vega, Triple H has, logically, seen a star in him and was right. He ended up on the top of the card with a very good NXT champion reign and making amazing matches here and there. But then, and not surprisingly, his call-up into the main roster was a disaster. It started with some matches without much importance with jobbers, and since then, nothing... He lost in the shuffle, waiting for his talent to be exploited and that's very sad, given his big talent. I hope WWE will realize they are losing a great talent even if, at this point, my hopes are broken."

I think they need to go further with the pair though. We all know that they are not a couple in real life, so they need to explain why they are business associates. We saw that in NXT but the main roster had no context for them as a pair. I do think Andrade was hurt a bit when they gave him the name chop, but I hope that does not hurt him too much going forward. As long as he has Flair backing him behind the scenes, he has nothing to worry about."

Unfortunately, this will be hard for him to achieve in WWE as they have a thing against pushing those who don't speak fluent English."

So it was strange that WWE, after hiring the guy, then proceeded to take away everything that had made him great. Eventually, he hit it big in NXT due his pairing with Zelina Vega, and they had the potential to be a main event act on the main roster. But as happens a lot, a hot NXT act was completely bungled on the main roster, and someone who should be a main event star is now mired firmly in the midcard."
[10.0] "As La Sombra he was one of the best wrestlers in his promotion in CMLL and was an absolute star. In NXT once his character got a little bit closer to the Ingnorable that he was in Mexico, he quickly jumped to the top of the pack. His run on the WWE main roster thus far has been lackluster so far but if WWE books him right he can be the Latino star they have been clamoring for since Rey left."
[8.0] "Honestly I was very underwhelmed by his NXT debut, this wasn't the guy I heard about before signing. Fortunately an untimely injury to another star and the pairing of Zelina Vega paid dividends for Almas and he was catapulted to an NXT Title reign which in all honestly is one of the best reigns for the title and was interesting from start to finish, expecting big things for him on the main roster. Please WWE don't mess up again."
[10.0] "His in ring work and story telling is amazing. I was unfamiliar with him before he went to nxt, however at an early stage of his nxt-career I saw he had something special. His story in NXT was one of the best fairytale stories in recent years. I think I was one of the few people who were against Gargano at NXT Takeover Philadelphia, it was one of the greatest matches I ever saw. Zelina Vega is a great manager as well."
[10.0] "I have nothing to say about his ring talent. He is amazing without a doubt. But he needs to learn some English. Almas is charismatic, but as long as people can not understand him, it will not be a big deal. If he does not improve his English, he will have a hard career for him."

You know it? s funny that he & Naito have had pretty much the same storyline, both were hated, heavily booed, fans did not care about them & no matter how good their matches were, fans didn? t care, & then they realised they had to do something about it & what did they do? They became, tranquilo. When Naito turned tranquilo, fans started caring about him & they made him the most popular wrestler in NJPW. Sombra turned tranquilo & as a result he had consistently the best matches & now with the amazing Zelina Vega, he has pretty much became the full package. His match with Johnny is 100% the best NXT match ever & WWE? s MOTY this year. I? m hoping when he moves up to the MR, he will get treated with respect & becomes one of the top guys in RAW or SD Live. Future WWE Champ without a doubt."
[10.0] "Ich muss mein 8er Rating für La Sombra von 2013 nochmal drastisch aufwerten! Andrade "Cien Almas" ist inzwischen zu einem meiner absoluten Favorites geworden! Er war schon immer ein Exzellenter Wrestler und hatte den Look, aber dennoch sah ich das abnehmen seiner Maske am Anfang seines NXT Runs als großen Fehler an. Anfangs sollte ich auch recht haben. Er sieht sicherlich nicht schlecht aus und hatte immernoch gute Matches, aber sein Gimmick passte sowas von garnicht zu ihm und er war nie ein Star. Dann mit einem Gimmickwechsel und der Beigabe von Zelina Vega ist er einer der coolsten Heels der Welt! Grandioses In Ring Work welches er gegen Gargano in der besten Performance seines Lebens nochmal unter beweis gestellt hat, einen großartigen Look, mit Vega ein geeignetes Valet und Mouthpiece und dann einfach seine Coole art wie er die Matches bestreitet! Die Einzigen die mich neben Almas noch so in den Bann ziehen können sind eigentlich nur Omega und AJ und das sagt viel über ihn aus. Klare 10."

"I don't know much about him but he seems definitely lost in this gimmick that WWE has given him. If he can't speak english than don't give him a flamboyant gimmick that is supposed to get him over with the crowd (like No Way Jose). Give him some sort of lone badass high-flyer mexican. He seems to have the in-ring ability and the look (outside of the Robin Hood's hat and the suspenders) to suceed but I think it's his gimmick that has been keeping him from connecting with the crowd. He needs a reset."
[7.0] "Ohne Gimmick, keine Ausstrahlung - dabei denke ich schon, dass er Potential hat, als Lucha-Wrestler ohne Maske es bei NXT zu schaffen. Im Roode-Match hat er bewiesen, dass er nur einen Rahmen braucht, indem er agieren kann, um zu funktionieren. Sein Moveset ist klasse und seine Move-Ausführung sauberer als von seinen Lucha-Kollegen Sin Cara und Kalisto. Im Prinzip hätte er auch den WWE-Look, nur zerläuft dieser derzeit noch im Sand. Wird ein größeres Projekt, Almas over zu bringen, daher fange ich mit eher konservativen 7 Punkten an."
[8.0] "Bin gespannt was von ihm kommt, im Ring auf jeden Fall sehr stark (9/10) allerdings reizt mich dieses pure Grinsefacegimmick noch nicht, da muss noch mehr kommen in NXT, aber er sollte da schön ein Jahr aufgebaut werden."
[7.0] "I'm a big fan of lucha libre, and I've seen dozens of amazing luchadores perform for a variety of promotions. When I heard WWE had signed La Sombra, my first thought was "yeah, that makes sense. " He pulls off a very impressive arsenal of flying moves -- but above all else, he does them very cleanly and very safely. The guy is smooth as silk, and even when he's pulling off the most dangerous-looking of stunts, you can tell he knows exactly what he's doing and isn't going to be smashing anyone's head open. That's clutch in the modern WWE, which is still plagued by injuries despite (understandably) moderating the styles of some of its more risky workers. His English isn't top tier yet, nor are his facial expressions, but the man has worked under a mask for his entire career and I have no doubt he'll learn fast. He demonstrates plenty of charisma through body language and the like; he clearly know to gain audience attention and just needs to figure out how to do the same with a different toolset."
[6.0] "I am not that impressed with this guy so far. He seems adequate for a luchador but his psychology is almost non existent. There is also something very generic about him and I feel that he won't connect well with most WWE crowds. Maybe he should have stayed under the mask. His skill seems average at best and I don't get his high rating. Maybe he will surprise me but I feel that I have to reign in the adoration for this guy."
[8.0] "I have only seen him in WWE NXT. He is very athletic and is very agile. From the matches I have seen him in which is the Nashville, Evansville, and Atlanta tour and NXT Takeover: The End, I can tell he will be very good when he gets called up to the main roster he will be very good and hopefully wont get buried like the other NXT call ups."
[10.0] "This man is a ten, simple as that his match vs atlantis was the 2nd most emotional i have been as a fan and he excells at all fronts, the only worry is if he can speak english well enough in the WWE"
[8.0] "Ich kenne ihn vor allem von seinen Auftritten in Japan, da ich CMLL unregelmäßig und selten schaue. Aber bei eben jenen Gastspielen bei NJPW hat er mich überzeugt, zum einen durch tolles High-Flying- als auch durch Submission-Wrestling. Sein Look sowie Auftreten sind ebenfalls klasse. Mal sehen, wie er sich entwickelt aber eigentlich dürfte er das ja nicht vermasseln!"
[8.0] "La Sombra ist für mich DER kommende Lucha Star der Welt. La Sombras Gimmick und seine Ausstrahlung im Ring zeigen das er mit seinen Jungen Alter was drauf hat. Macht einfach tierisch Spass dem Jungen anzuschauen"
[8.0] "Für sein junges Alter ist der Bursche bereits teuflisch gut - das trifft sicherlich auf viele Luchadore zu, doch ich denke Sombra hat schon jetzt von seiner Ausstrahlung her das gewisse Etwas. Hinzu kommt, dass er im Ring wirklich einige sehr schöne Manöver beherrscht. Von dem werden wir definitiv in Zukunft noch viel hören!"
[6.0] "Hab bis jetzt nur seine J Cup Matches gesehen die zwar schon gut waren, aber noch nichts super tolles. Hat zwar krasse Moves und einen guten Körperbau, aber er macht zu oft das Selbe und er muss noch an sich arbeiten. Trotzdem hat er eine erfogreiche Zukunft vor sich."
[7.0] "Ich mag La Sombra und sein Gimmick. Im Team mit Mistico und Volador hat er micht bis jetzt auch immer überzeugen können. Mal sehen, was in Zukunft aus ihm wird. Potential ist auf jeden Fall eine Menge vorhanden."
