[3.0] "Despite his longevity, Mathews never elevated the shows he worked on. He was competent enough to hold a mic, but his delivery and character work often felt one-note or insincere. He's had a long run in the business, but he's remembered more for being an annoying and unbearably cringeworthy commentator / interviewer - tho the type of heel heat he generated was somewhat useful for storylines"

[0.0] "Couldn't make it as a wrestler so they stuck him on commentary. I'm no means a fan of this guy, by any stretch of the imagination. He was always that one guy I just couldn't stand. He couldn't call a match to save his life, and the only reason, in my opinion, that he got some praise back in the day was due to the fact he was on an awful ECW show alongside better commentators. What's worse than his WWE run was the time he spent on commentary in TNA. By god was he awful, like legitimately awful. I stopped watching the product during the entirety of his time on commentary because I just personally felt he ruined the show. Remember seeing some people say he pitched his voice to be lower, hard to say... but wouldn't surprise me. Just not a fan of this guy at all. Can't commentate, can't wrestle."

[7.0] "I thought he was a solid enough commentator for Impact, he is obviously a downgrade over Mike Tenay, but I started watching after Tenay was gone. He and the Pope were a fun commentary team, I thought Don Callis was the best commentator in wrestling during his run, and Josh did his part. His biggest low was when he was commentating with Madison Rayne, she was appaling, only somewhat amusing knowing they were married, and she was accuse him of being a lonely loser on commentary, but otherwise it was horrible. He was replaced by Matt Striker as he got a bigger backstage role, which was actually a downgrade. I don't miss him too much and think Tom Hannifan is a better announcer, but still, he was the voice of Impact for most of my fandom."

[5.0] "underrated for his time on velocity, in particular being able to say things that may have been dirty words on the main roster shows because vince probably didn't watch velocity, but understandably disliked for his ECW, main roster WWE, and TNA tenures. go back and watch jamie noble vs. bryan danielson or john cena vs bryan danielson and he's not so bad, especially not compared to some of his broadcast partners like bill demott or ernest miller."

[0.0] "Oh my god I hate this guy so much, he makes Matt Striker look like Jim Ross and he ruined Scarlett VS Disco for me, I enjoy watching it muted though. And he legit ruined all of my hype for IMPACT till he left, and when he left it was legit as bad as WCW 2000 I'm being serious and I hate this guy. IMPACT's falloff needs to be studied, but back to Josh. He ruined WWECW which was actually great, he ruined everything he commentated on."

[3.0] "His work in Impact is really bad. I watch the Impact recap show on YouTube and he makes it insufferable"

[2.0] "He was tolerable in WWE. But holy shit that big kid voice he'd put on (in Impact) makes Michael Cole look like a god."

[0.0] "This dude sucks. The biggest reason I don't watch IMPACT. Hell, he made Corey Graves bearable, and I? m not a fan of his either. He's my least favorite in WWE, but he's way better than Josh Matthews. Everytime I hear him, I have flashbacks of Destination America and that hunting channel they were in. They changed the company name, management, roster, etc, but he's still there as a constant reminder of the dying days of TNA. I know he does a lot of work besides announcing but as long as he's the first voice you hear, a lot of people will never give Impact a real chance."

[0.0] "I honestly think Josh Matthews will literally go down in wrestling history as the all time worst play by play commentator of a televised wrestling show. This guy is such a charisma drain it's impressive quite frankly, one of the biggest issues with Impacts produced product today."

"Josh Mathews isn't anything special but I don't think he's as bad as a lot of the commentators here make him out to be. His early time in Impact, when they were trying to make him a heel play-by-play guy and other ridiculous stuff like that, was pretty awful. Nowadays I'd say he's more competent and unexceptional than actively bad."

[1.0] "Terrible announcer. He think's he's the best but in reality not. WWE he was alright. In TNA he is terrible and makes him an excellent heel. He still thinks he's better than Gordon Solie. Met the guy and a jerk."

[1.0] "The only thing worse than Josh Mathews on Impact commentary is Josh Mathews on that old WWE. com show with Road Dogg. Oh wait.... I just remembered Josh Mathews with Michael Cole on NXT season three. THAT'S the worst! He impressed enough on Tough Enough to earn a point."

[2.0] "I did not like josh mathews of first day till now.. in impact as a Commentator he is on my nerv many times with his some useless words but as a heel Commentator he can be better as now if he change this situation that he follow."

[1.0] "1 point, because I used to think he was ok, back when he was calling Velocity and a couple other WWE shows. But in TNA, he has become like poison to my ear. Listening to him now is like being held down while someone pours boiling sewage in my ears, and laughs at my screams. I think TNA has been overhated at times in their history, but any company that would feature him in his current state has no excuse."

[4.0] "As obnoxious as he is, I never found Josh Matthews to be that bad of an announcer. He's better than the Pope... granted, that's not saying much."

[0.0] "Actively antagonising your paying audience is an extremely sahort-sighted move when you are the voice of a company. Doing the same with social media and having the gall of calling yourself the greatest of all time, sincerely or as an act, is just a baffling demeanor that really leads nowhere good."

[0.0] "Beyond a terrible commentator. The man is so pretentious, and self interested, that he outright disses the fans who put money in his pockets. Josh Mathews had some potential as a commentary, but upon joining TNA, he would rather cracking inside jokes, and make himself seem like the grand icon of color commentary, when in actuality, he's more worth less at his job, than a turd that sticks to the bottom of a shoe. Not only is he bad, but he's an asshole, so he gets nothing from me."

[1.0] "Just a bad announcer. Josh Mathews really has no redeeming qualities. He comes across as snooty, abrasive, obnoxious, and an all around douche, especially on social media. He makes Matt Striker look like Gordon Solie."

[2.0] "Was never a fan of this guy, but I don't remember him being this awful during his time in WWE. Just horrible. Quite possibly the worst commentator currently on a televised wrestling show. His current run on commentary in TNA has been insufferable at times."

[2.0] "I don't recall this guy being such a bad commentator back when he was doing Velocity, but today on Impact, this guy is one of the worst commentators I've ever heard in a big company. He's supposed to be the play-by-play face guy but he does this terrible switcharoo every god damn week, exclusively for EC3, turning into a heel commentator for just that one guy. He MUST know he does this, I can't comprehend it at all."

[8.0] "It's a shame that Josh got fired from WWE instead of Cole. He's superior to Cole in ever aspect of pro wrestling announcing. For one thing, not only does Josh make the job of play by play entertaining and not only does he seem to be able to work with ANYONE, but he always talks about the wrestling in the ring, the holds, the moves, the psychology. WWE seems to encourage most play by play commentators to leave that out of their broadcasts, but Mathews always put the wrestling first. I'm glad he's in TNA. It's a shame he had to replace Mike Tenay, but at least he's someplace where the terms "pro wrestling" and "wrestler" aren't dirty words."
