[9.0] "Gulak is one of the most technically proficient wrestlers of his generation. He excels in mat-based grappling, chain wrestling, and ring psychology, often bringing a refreshing, no-nonsense style to an industry dominated by flashier moves. His work in 205 Live and on the Cruiserweight Classic earned him a cult following among fans who appreciate pure wrestling. He showed unexpected versatility too -- his "PowerPoint Presentation" gimmick added a comedic edge that proved he could entertain beyond just grappling. His Cruiserweight Championship run in 2019 was well-earned and helped give credibility back to the title. While WWE often underutilized him or kept him in the midcard, Gulak consistently made the most of every role. Whether as a serious technician or a straight-faced comedy foil, he's the kind of wrestler who makes everyone around him better. He may never be a world champion, but Gulak is a wrestler's wrestler -- sharp, skilled, and quietly influential"

However, it's hard to respect a bully who purposefully drops trainees on their head, especially in this era where such stuff shouldn't be tolerated. There are loads of fundamentally sound wrestlers across the world today, so it's not worth seeing Gulak around in any major company. Not to mention, he's a boring promo whose glory days included giving intentionally dull promos with a powerpoint gimmick. Apart from that, there is nothing special about him, especially since he's already on the older side for an indie guy these days. Unless he fixes his attitude problems, I don't see him amounting to anything worthwhile."

Reminds me of another one of the all-time greats Dean Malenko in terms of ring work. WWE not renewing his contract was a COLOSSAL mistake on their part. Rousey only wishes she could wrestle as good as Drew. His work as part of The Colony and Catch Point was top notch. Hopefully he makes it back on TV soon, maybe ROH, MLW, or TNA could use him. Should have had a few mid card title runs (US, IC, NA, and a couple of tag title runs with Bryan or Nese)."

You can thank Drew Gulak for that - genuinely one of the best wrestlers out there from a pure technical standpoint, has a lot of love for the industry (he used to be a wrestling forum kid), and is a bonafide Chikara icon. I want more out of him, of course, but WWE definitely knows what they have. There's a reason why, when his contract was up and he was a free agent, they made SURE to resign him. They both know and understand his worth backstage. -------- EDIT: As of today, Drew Gulak has been released from WWE. My review has nothing to do with the accusations towards him and is indicative solely of his career - the rating I give him is due to his incredible wrestling skill and his time in the indies, specifically in Chikara."

Gulak started his career in CZW where he managed to become a champion and showed a number of good matches, including a wonderful psychological rivalry against Danny Havoc. In Chikara, he tried himself in more comedic roles and it seems to me that this is really what he does perfectly well. As a member of the Gentlemen's Club and the Colony, he was able to really open up, his eagle flight is just the most hilarious thing I've seen in wrestling. In WWE he is mostly in the lower roles, but he can show great matches when he is given more time. He has a pretty forgettable look however, and his selling isn't the greatest either. But those minor quibbles hardly take away from his strengths. The guy's been underrated even on 205 Live, he should have been the face of the division as soon as PAC left, but it instead took him nearly two years after that to get the belt. Now he's a jobber on SmackDown, a crying shame considering his talent. I consider him to be this generation's Kurt Angle, but he'll never fulfil that potential in WWE as long as they keep on booking him in this way. I'd love to see him work in New Japan, it would be a perfect opportunity to showcase his exemplary character work and technical expertise, I'd give all of my money to see a rematch from the CW Classic between himself and Zack Sabre Jr."

He's already drawn a bit of mainstream attention for his role in the Cruiserweight Classic, and as his time in WWE increases his exposure, he's definitely going to get noticed. He's got much better psychology than many of the cruiserweights, and he's got a long list of great matches under his belt. His biggest weakness -- one which will surely be exposed on the big stage -- is his microphone ability. Gulak has a bit of difficulty presenting himself seriously -- he never comes off as terribly sincere, and his promos definitely need work. Even beyond that, he doesn't have much of a character; he looks like an indie wrestler suddenly dropped onto Raw, and that's no far from the truth. At only 29, he's got years to find his way, and more than enough talent to do it. To really progress, though, he needs to work on his personality."
