Tracy Smothers

[7.0] "Only know Smothers as the all dancing, chin flicking comedy goon of the FBI and marvellous at it he was too. Always a great start to any ECW PPV circa 98. The absolute disdain of Joey Styles on commentary was a joy "about as Italian as frozen pizza." Apparently a genuine tough guy, Lance Storm and Edge & Christian paid warm and sincere tributes to him. Been to watch football in Milan, Naples and Bergamo and still not convinced there is a Nashville in Italy."

[2.0] "He wasn't anything special. He had some of the worst babyface promos I've ever heard in my life. They could be ironically entertaining though so he gets credit for that. As a worker he did the fundamentals well enough but he also had the worst looking dropkick for a finisher. SMW was the only place he could be a babyface because if the stories are accurate he really was obsessed with wearing confederate flag gear and waving the confederate flag...as a babyface...in 1994. Even by that time that flag was universally reviled and rightfully so. He gets a lot of credit for his late career heel work but that was comedy and while that's fun, he didn't do much with it except pretend to be Italian."

[8.0] "Tracy Smothers was living proof that old school wrestlers could adapt and thrive in a changing business with the right mindset. Starting out down south in the territory days, the wrestling world quickly changed around Smothers, and he got his first national break in WCW. After he saw little upward mobility after jumping to the WWF, Smothers took a chance on the extremely anti-old school cult promotion ECW and its fans. Despite these odds against him, Smothers underwent a complete career redefinition as a member of the Full Blooded Italians, with his glorious dancing delighting the rowdy Philly crowds and beyond while having extensive chemistry with Little Guido and Tommy Rich. Once ECW flickered out in 2001 along with WCW, creating a second wrestling reshaping which had even fewer national opportunities for the near 40 year old Smothers, he took his talents to the indies and again found success in promotions like JCW as a crusader against everything Juggalo and death match while getting one final showcase to thousands at TNAs Hardcore Justice. We lost him far too soon due to illness, and I bet he would have been a tremendous manager at the back end of his career. The Wild Eyed Southern Boy could work a crowd like very few others ever could, and more up and comers should look to him as a way to get heat from crowds."

[8.0] "Tracy Smothers did it all. From fighting bears to teaming with Steve Armstrong to becoming Italian to feuding with the Juggalos, all while being an absolute menace. If you don't enjoy the Wild Eyed Southern Boy, STRAIGHT UP, EVERYBODY DIES!"

[5.0] "Another solid tag team wrestler for the lower mid card and never really went far in the big two (WWF and WCW) but he was more appreciated in the small time promotions and old territory style companies."

[8.0] "A lil Tracy Smothers makes everything a whole lot better. One of WCW early 90's not so hidden gems; the tag team with Steve Armstrong was fan-fkn-tastic and I absolutely LOVE that team and everything they did. Underrated promo guy, even if the accent was *shudders and recoils*. A real kickass fiery babyface, I like his heel work to a degree - but it is his babyface material that I LOVE. Bill Watts turned him into enhancement talent and that sucked. Things were fun in SMW but then he went to the WWF. Vince McMahon might have named him as a dedication/nod to The Brisco Brothers but the name was terrible and again, the booking of enhancement talent to me didn't fit. I appreciate Paul Heyman doing more with him in ECW and it helped take out the bad taste I was developing in regards to his booking. He shoulda gotten more. I miss the dude... 8.25 rounded down/underrated & recommended."

[7.0] "Tracy smothers was great as heel or face, and a good old southern boy. He above-average offense and could sell. His mic skills are very underrated as well. I thought the older he got the better he was. Not a huge fan of his Freddie Joe Floyd role but played the underdog well. Really liked his WCW work, and really enjoyed some of his work over the past 5 years. ALWAYS ENTERTAINING!"

[9.0] "R. I. P. Tracy Smothers. One of the most underrated wrestlers of all-time. A tough guy behind the scenes, good in the ring, and great on the mic. Cause near riots in JCW and IWA Mid South. It's just disappointing that Tracy never made it to main event status. Was only a lower card guy in WWE as Freddie Joe Floyd and a lower card guy in WCW as part of the Southern Boys with Steve Armstrong. Was more of mid card guy in ECW as part of the F. B. I. with Little Guido, J. T. Smith, and others. Surprised he has this low of a rated, expected more around 7. 5 Sad that Smothers never made main event status and said that he passed away in 2020, he will be missed."

[10.0] "One of the greatest professional wrestlers of all-time, and I genuinely mean that. From the bottom of the barrel in Tennessee to New Japan, All Japan, WCW, WWF, and ECW, all the way back to the bottom of the barrel, persisting on, inspiring EVERY wrestler he came into contact with. I don't believe in any deity, but God bless Tracy Smothers."

[8.0] "Tracy Smothers is somehow STILL entertaining as all hell. He plays the role of a grumpy southern asshole so so well the veteran is still one of my favorite heels today. He can really play his character well."

[7.0] "Smothers was a solid in-ring worker and especially shone in the ring as a tag specialist in teams such as the Young Pistols with Steve Armstrong. He never quite caught on as a single at the top levels - his WWF run as Freddie Joe Floyd, for instance, never went anywhere - but he memorably became a part of the FBI in ECW, and gradually showed himself to be a good in-ring entertainer and talker, especially excelling as a heat-drawing heel."

[9.0] "One of the best! Tracy actually had good in-ring skills and was an underrated talker. It's truly a shame he was used as a jobber in the WWF. A 9."

[7.0] "Tracy Smothers was a good worker and was a great babyface in SMW. He was an even better heel on the independent scene, post-ECW. It was a shame that his run on the national stage saw him used as a jobber, because it was a waste of his talent."

[8.0] "Seriously underrated talent. Great storyteller, fun talker who's only real letdown as a wrestler is his lack of a look. Definitely deserves a better rating here than he has."

[6.0] "Tracy Smothers is a good wrestler, but even a better trainer. He trained Kassius Ohno, Delirious, Daniel Bryan. He last fought in 2011."
