[0.0] "There have been bad bookers before Vince Russo and bad bookers after but no one has ever came close to his level of ineptitude. He's so thoroughly hated that one is almost tempted to be a contrarian and defend him but no, he is genuinely that bad. His early fame came from better bookers like Vince McMahon (and considering some of the absolute trash he booked in his final years running WWE, it's saying something that Russo is demonstrably worse) taking his "best" ideas and working them into something manageable. And even then, trash like Brawl 4 All happened."
[1.0] "You are not a true wrestling fan unless you hate Vince Russo with all your being. His touch is the reverse of King Midas - every wrestling promotion that he has been employed becomes worse. He's not a good writer, he's not a good wrestler, and he's not even a good heel personality. Overall a bad footnote in the history of pro-wrestling."
[0.0] "Could not imagine someone worse for the wrestling business than Vince Russo. He brought so many awful things into wrestling, the horrible gimmick matches, especially the women's, is such an awful thing to introduce. I genuinely feel like he set the business back and ruined WCW, hence I feel I have to give a 0"
[0.0] "Vince Russo in the worst I can happen in the professional Wrestling, how could he be on so many sides if his ideas were horrible? Quick count of horrible decisions: he invented the Bra and Pantties Match, I do not think it is necessary to explain why this is horrible and is bad; WCW destroyed, when WCW was shattered, Vince arrived and shattered the shatters; TNA almost destroys, I think they did not learn from what he was able to do; He gave recognition to Ed Ferrara, this in horrible, which he saw in Ed (Oklahoma or as half of "The Powers That Be")? ; WCW destroyed, really, I feel that I must talk more about this, everything was wrong, stupid history, matches with stupid rules and total destruction internally. Yes, perhaps he did the beginning of actitude well was (although most of his ideas were stupid, he was only in the beginning and then went to WCW) but everything else is bad."
[3.0] "Here's what would happen at Wrestlemania 41 main event if Russo was the booker. Cody Rhodes, WWE Champion, defends against John Cena at Wrestlemania in Las Vegas. Cena returns, claiming he's after title #17, revealing he's funding Brandi Rhodes' heel faction, "The High Rollers." Brandi slaps Cody with casino chips, turning on him. Build-up includes a "Casino Chaos" match (Cena wins via Dustin Rhodes' interference) and a "Vegas Vice" segment with Don Johnson, ending in chaos. Match: "Sin City Showdown" (no-DQ, falls anywhere). Ring has a roulette barricade, slot machine, and fuzzy dice. Cody enters on a motorcycle, Cena in a limo with showgirls. They brawl through a blackjack table. Dustin interferes but Cena accidentally AAs him. A "Vegas Prize on a Pole" yields brass knuckles for Cena; Cody kicks out. Wayne Newton swings a chair, misses, and Cody suplexes him into the slot machine. Cody wins with a Cross Rhodes through a flaming poker table. Brandi teases betrayal post-match. On Raw, Cena demands a cage rematch with Brandi in a shark cage."
[6.0] "Vince Russo is a love/hate guy. I respect his writing for the late 90s in WWF, it cannot be overstated. His WCW career is highly criticized, and for good reason. His booking of himself winning the WCW title might be the most annoying thing to me personally. I never paid much attention to TNA so can't really comment on that portion of his embattled career. I will take up for him when people attack him for "the death of WCW" - that company was clearly dying out before Vince Russo ever arrived in Atlanta. And god rest the late great Roddy Piper, I highly respect his opinion but can't blame Vince Russo for Owen Hart's death. Accidents happen, if anyone is truly at fault it would have to be the stunt coordinators in my humble opinion. I obviously wasn't there and was just a fan watching RAW the day after Over the Edge 1999."
[3.0] "The legacy of Vince Russo is quite murky. He was one of the people responsible for the WWF's resurgence in the late 90s with the Attitude Era, but he is also responsible for ruining one promotion to the point of closing and nearly doing the same with another. He helped create some of the more memorable characters and angles but also created some of the wackiest, ridiculous, and downright abysmal storylines and gimmicks too. Vince Russe bought in the crash TV style of booking that could be done well with a filter, but could be awful with nonsensical swerves, pointlessly quick matches, numerous backstage skits and segments, and the constant breaking of the fourth wall with insider references and worked-shoot bullocks. It doesn't help that Russo decided to insert himself onto the product as a participant, really trying to copy the shtick the McMahons were doing. Nowadays, Vince is one of the many grifters you offen see and hear complain about the modern wrestling product, constantly dropping bad takes and opinions in order to stay relevant in a business that left him behind."
[3.0] "Known for his crash TV style and edgy storytelling, he played a key role in WWE's Attitude Era, helping create compelling characters and unpredictable moments. However, Russo's reliance on swerves, gimmick matches, and controversial angles often led to inconsistent storytelling, especially in WCW and TNA. While his creativity brought excitement, his booking often overshadowed in-ring action and generally more of his stuff is bad than good"
[0.0] "I'm not kidding when I say this man is the worst writer to ever be in charge of mainstream wrestling promotions, Vince McMahon should have never hired him as a writer or even let him write for their magazines. Seriously, this man has done irreparable damage to this industry. Despite people look back on the WWF's "Attitude Era" with fondness & nostalgia, people forget that the era had A LOT of problems when Vince was the head writer/booker (it did get better once he left). Then he goes to WCW and the company goes from bad to even worse, he ruined WCW so badly that Dark Side of the Ring needs to do a 2 part episode on his days as head writer/booker in WCW, from David Arquette as world champion to the dumb gimmick matches, countless swerves, etc. it's all a trainwreck. He sure didn't help TNA, did damage the moment he convinced his pitch for the name to the Jarrett's, is this man 12 years old? TNA really kept this man around, even when Spike TV didn't want him, and it's not like he was valuable. Overall, Vince Russo is one of-if not-the most creatively bankrupt men in this amazing "sport" we all love, glad no one in the industry wants him back. I know this word gets thrown around a lot by people, but, Vince Russo is a legitimate cancer to professional wrestling. Seriously, 99.99% of everything he touches turns to shit."
[7.0] "One of the most disrespected and undervalued people in the wrestling business, he is often criticized by sheep or those who blindly follow Jim Cornette's opinions. Many claim he was a terrible booker and writer, yet he played a major role in the rise of the Attitude Era and the rise of stars like Triple H and The Rock. It's hilarious how people ignore the fact that, in the two years following his promotion to head writer, Raw surpassed WCW Nitro in head-to-head ratings, after years of losing that battle. He took what was a stale product at the time and injected entertainment into it. I don't believe he's a booking genius, as seen in his WCW and TNA runs, but the refusal to give him credit is super cringe. The narrative (and the fact that it's so insanely popular) that he simply gave ideas while others in WWF polished them is proof that people will go out of their way to discredit him due to bias. If that's all he did, then how in the world did he manage to become head writer? That narrative has zero proof to back it up, yet everyone runs with it. The way all the wrestling fan sheep try to discredit him is so odd you'd think he was some kind of evil person. Yes, people can point out the bad, like how he contributed to WCW's demise (an already doomed company) or TNA's stagnation, but that doesn't mean they should completely ignore the great television he contributed to in WWF. Running with the lazy "He had 1/10 good ideas, and they were all filtered" narrative or acting like he wrote nonsense that was simply carried by The Rock, Austin, etc., is just disingenuous."
[0.0] "The damage that Vince Russo has done to professional wrestling might never be undone. This man did nothing but insult the product, the fans, and everyone who has ever cared about professional wrestling every time he was in charge of anything. The fact that THREE different promotions thought it was a good idea to let Russo run their show is beyond me, he never should have ever been involved in this business. And yet, ultimately, he got what he wanted, and that's a generation of WWE fans who actively dislike in-ring wrestling. And that's a shoot, bro."
[0.0] "Vince Russo might be the biggest train wreck ever to hit wrestling. He was all about shock value, pointless swerves, and wacky angles that made zero sense in the long run. Whether it was WWE, WCW, or TNA, he left a trainwreck everywhere he went with random title changes, overbooked matches, and inconsistent storylines. Instead of letting talent shine through solid feuds and smart booking, he kept throwing in cheap stunts that turned off fans who wanted to see good wrestling. If you want to see why long term planning matters in wrestling, just look at the chaos Vince Russo left behind. If you told me that Vince Russo had a hidden agenda to sabotage the wrestling industry I would probably believe it."
[0.0] "One of the biggest pieces of crap in wrestling history. Horrible promoter, booker, and writer. Can't believe he actually has a podcast where he critiques things. Every sentence he seems to use the word "Bro". Pretty much helped destroy WCW and almost destroyed TNA."
[0.0] "The guy is a complete clown and his current presence online only exists to rage bait wrestling fans. I must admit, there's a reason why he was the top writer in the then WWF for a while. He definitely did have ideas, it's just they were all filtered by Vince & the rest of the staff. Left to his own devices, you get what WCW became in the end and what TNA was going through in the mid 2000s. Which is basically poor TV and poor writing. His idea as to what professional wrestling should be is completely asinine and just doesn't work. He obviously cared about wrestlers as characters, and it's clear that he gave more depth to certain wrestlers in WWF during his time. But again, he needed a Vince McMahon to filter his ideas and turn them into something "good." All in all, Vince Russo gets a lot of hate, and it's all deserved. Loves to run his mouth about this and that, it's clear why he's disliked by 99.99% of fans and wrestlers."
[0.0] "Terrible, terrible booker with no long term plan, no booking philosophy, no concept of how to structure a show and no ability on-screen as a talker or a wrestler, yet he made himself world champion. All the successful bookers had a philosophy or at least a vision of what wrestling should be, from Crockett to Vince to Inoki to Baba to Onita, they all had a vision of what they wanted, Russo had no vision, he just throw stuff on TV and hoped it stuck, which it did not. He was better in TNA but he still made a lot of the same errors he made in WCW. I'd say he books wrestling angles like its a tik tok, get it over with quickly and without substance, then move on fast. Anyone employing him after 2000 was being very foolish."
[2.0] "The unfortunate case study of being the wrong person at the right place at the right time. Really needed someone to filter his ideas down and contort them into something feasible and applicable to wrestling. My personal biggest grievance is the inability to properly book an angle for any woman that wasn't about ownership, miscarriages, slut shaming or similar affairs."
[0.0] "For someone who defended that wrestling and its storylines should move closer to what was done in TV shows/dramas and movies when it came to narratives and the like, Vince Russo was certainly terrible at coming up with and writing those same narratives. Add to that the fact he contributed massively to the deaths of WCW and TNA, and all the damage he did to women's wrestling and women in wrestling in general, and there's very few good things that can be said about him, if any at all."
[2.0] "If there's one thing I'll give him, he kickstarted the attitude era, but I'm sorry, I cannot take him seriously. When he went into WCW, it all fell apart. He made himself the champion, and at one point, David Arquette. And his time in TNA was barely better. Remember the Last Rites match?"
[1.0] "Russo is easily one of the worst figures in pro-wrestling history, the damage that this guy has done to our sport is irreparable, and I absolutely hate him, not only for the several bad things that he wrote, but for what he represents, his philosophies are the complete opposite of mine, and in my opinion his thoughts on professional wrestling are shit. I'm only giving Russo a point here, because of the stuff he did at the Attitude Era, the only period of time that he was actually 'successful', not because of his brightness, but because out of 10 ideas, he had 1 good and 9 bad ones, but he did had good ideas, that helped the company, and all of the bad ones were just discarded or polished by guys like Vince, Cornette, Patterson, Pritchard, etc... After going to WCW in 1999, Russo played a big role on the company's downfall and he's a big reason of why it ran out of business, some of the worst stuff that ever happened in pro-wrestling history happened there under his command, and the company became a total mess. After pretty much destroying WCW, he spent long years with TNA, which explains why I was never interested by that company in my entire life."
[0.0] "I cant take anyone seriously who justifies their hatred for this sport by claiming mainstream fans dont care about wrestling, then proceeds to write some of the worst television ever. This mindset only lead to damaging the sport, instead of elevating it."
[0.0] "The worst booker in wrestling history, the worst WCW champion in history, the man that killed WCW, the worst of everything in history. A man who only sees titles in props and has an unhealthy fetish with poles in wrestling matches. I don't care that his shoot promo on Hulk Hogan at Bash at the Beach was great, it doesn't make up for the fact the he makes stupid booking decisions. In fact, after the Booker T and Jeff Jarrett match, he made Booker lose the title to himself. Oh right, that happened. To call Russo an actual champion would be an embarrassment to every wrestling fan. Even those who appealed to his smallest minority thought this was bad. It's probably the worst example of mark booking. Despite everyone telling him he's an idiot, I don't think he's gonna listen. So I'm going to stop listening to you. Good riddance."
[1.0] "Vince Russo is wrestling infamy. He had a few good thoughts here and there, but he wrote like "swerves" were the only thing that mattered, like you could replace actual storytelling with throwing random crap at the wall just to "shock" the audience. He took a good thing in WWF and ran it into the ground with ridiculous, nonsensical angles, then jumped to WCW and basically put the final nail in their coffin, as that's easily the worst run a major US Company has ever had, and they never recovered. Russo never met a good wrestler he couldnt "fix" with some stupid gimmick or worked shoot. His obsession with being edgy led to some of the most embarrassing moments in wrestling history, and just has absolute contempt for actual wrestling, simply because he doesn't have the capacity to understand why people like it. the fact he kept getting jobs is proof that wrestling can sometimes reward the absolute least talented people as long as they're infamous."
[0.0] "I will not critique any of the outside televised parts of Vince Russo as if I did that, Id go to the negatives; however, the character on-screen and him holding the WCW World heavyweight championship was a key defining moment in the end of WCW as a company."
[6.0] "This man does not deserve the hate he has been given he gave people like Boker T a chance to be a main eventer. Made Bret Hart champion when he should have been a lot sooner in 1998. One of the few people not scared of Hulk Hogans power. He may have had a lot of crap ideas but he made wrestling the most popular it ever was."
[0.0] "Just a complete moron who think's that he is the saviour of wrestling and all-knowing being of wrestling. I'd do anything in the world to never have anyone talk about anything this doofus says ever again. Single handedly set back women's wrestling in north america back DECADES with how awful he was"
[0.0] "An absolute loser with horrible ideas who lucked into every small amount of success he ever had. Responsible for some of the absolutely worst moments in wrestling that are still laughed about decades on. A wrestling world without Vince Russo is an incredibly better wrestling world. Terrible, just terrible."
[1.0] "I'm rating Russo on his on-screen character skills. He gets a point for his promo abilities, that's it. If I was rating his off-screen antics, I'd find a way to go negative."
[0.0] "I could write reviews like the other ones below me where I dissect everything wrong with the man but to keep it short, to sum up everything wrong with him, I'll sum up in one sentence. This is a dude who claims to hate the wrestling business but makes all his money off the wrestling business while burying the wrestling business and making fun of the fans of the wrestling business which he himself claims to be a fan of."
[0.0] "Awful booker and directly responsible for the demise of WCW and TNA. His horrible ideas hurt the careers and lives of numerous wrestlers such as Owen Hart, Dr. Death, Daffney among many many others. How he had a job for so long boggles the mind. If I could go into the negatives I would"
[1.0] "You can tell he's not very intelligent if you listen to him speak for a couple minutes. Vince McMahon brought this guy into the business. Just another one of McMahon's incredible contributions to the business! I'm giving him a 1 because he booked a small handful of genuinely interesting things (in a sea of crap that almost killed the business). Massive contributing force in the death of WCW, and TNA's overall stagnation despite the company having the best roster on TV at the time. It's almost like his poor booking decisions were intentionally designed to cripple WWE's competition................ Hmmmmmmmmm..................... Nah! Vince McMahon would never do that. He was such an upstanding, honest business man!"
[0.0] "Effectively killed off WCW tried his best too kill off Wrestling as a whole, his ideas only worked out when VKM filtered them, disrespectful to the business. For his worst booking look at Bash at the Beach 2000 in WCW or the "New York Rules stipulation on WCW Thunder."
[1.0] "A singular point for the fact he had *some* good ideas. He wasn't 100% god fucking awful, just 99%. He absolutely did book a couple shows that were actually good, and he did always make sure everyone on the roster had something to do. That being said, he didn't understand wrestling in its basic fundamentals, and most of his story lines were in poor taste at best. I understand 25 years ago was a very different time than it is now, and during that time sexism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, drag-bashing, racism, and honestly any form of bigotry wasn't taken as seriously as it is now, and was used for comedic effect or something along those lines, but considering it wasn't even good back then, I think it's fair for me to put serious criticism on the man for incorporating that so much, especially towards his bashing of women in storylines. It's not a coincidence how many times he's painted women as liars of abuse and pregnancies, as well as being unfaithful. Asides from how deeply offensive a lot of his booking was in that aspect, he also quite literally didn't understand what makes wrestling actually captivating. Take a look at his WCW work for instance, where every match on the show contained a ref bump, interference on top of interference, constant bending to flat out breaking of the rules, and nonsensical booking in terms of who goes over who, without any form of consistency or flow. Gimmick matches should be a special occasion, not something that takes a majority of the show's card. Asides from his awful booking and writing, he was also a damn terrible character. Absolutely unbearable, especially in WCW. 1 point for Survivor Series 1998, that's literally all he's got."
[0.0] "Destroyed WCW, almost destroyed TNA. A complete cancer to the industry, whether as a booker, as on-screen talent, or as a man with a microphone and a podcast. Even the other Vince's creative disasters look like Don Quixote in terms of narrative excellence."
[0.0] "Complete shit no redeeming qualities to the man he was a shit booker everywhere he went ruined a lot of peoples careers ruined multiple wrestling companies takes credit for the big boom of pro wrestling in the 90s when he had absolutely nothing to do with it a garbage person and a waste of space fuck Vince Russo"
[0.0] "You know bro, I gotta give it to Russo bro, the Brawl For All was 100% to see that big bully Bradshaw get beat up... And not just an excuse to give undercard guys CTE! Bro, WCW needed to be a shoot all the time because when you are telling everyone that everything else is fake but this is super real that's what gets the internet talking bro... Bro, Jeff Jarrett is the greatest wrestler of all time let's make him the champion of every company I book. Bro, wouldn't it be super cool to have David Arquette be the champion... Wait.. Bro... what if a writer made himself the champion? Vince Russo was completely delusional and part of the reason Wresting went on a downward spiral for many years and is still trying to recover and probably never will be the pop culture spawning icon it once was. Also bro has a podcast and he isn't even good at that in fact.. Part of my 0 rating comes from his comments he's had on his podcast claiming insane things and lying straight out of his mouth. Vince Russo is a psychopath compulsive liar on the levels of Hulk Hogan. His lies expose the harsh truths and reality of how things were.. Just watch the Dark side of the ring about Bash at the Beach 2000.."
[0.0] "I don't care about the attitude era, his work on WCW and TNA is the worst mainstream wrestling thing that happened (that doesn't involve wrestlers passing away or injuries). He can have one good idea out of 755, but the constant interference killed WCW and it's not a exaggerating. He killed WCW by going there and killed it once again by leaving Kevin Sullivan on power"
[1.0] "Listen bro, I think Vince Russo bro is a bit of a one trick pony bro. Sure he contributed to the attitude era bro, and wrote a lot of quality trash eerrrr I mean crash TV bro, but did he understand wrestling bro? Did he have a favorite guy growing up bro? Did he understand what it truly meant to be a fan and get lost on these bizarre ventures bro? Fans and Jim Cornette might have been a little too harsh on Russo bro. Yet he genuinely seems to be lost in the sauce bro. Like Hulk Hogan, the lines between truth and fiction from their tales gets really confusing fast bro. Once he jumped ship to WCW he essentially killed the company bro. True the NWO was getting way too big, and things needed to be stripped back bro. Yet things could have been handled a lot better bro, once he became WCW champion bro, we all knew the end of times for WCW was near bro. His jump to TNA was just amazing bro. His gimmick match ideas were super obvious bro, just add a pole and you got crash TV bro. Once it was revealed Russo was in the IMPACT zone bro, it became clearer TNA was WCW 2.0 bro. Makes Jonathan Coachman look like Paul Heyman bro. 1.0/10."
[0.0] "Do I really need to explain why I feel that Vince Russo is worthy of a 0/10? He is the worst Booker in pro wrestling history. Take a long hard look at what happened to WCW once he came into power. Nuff said. There should be a Dark Side of the Ring episode on the Death of WCW because of this guy."
[1.0] "Vince Russo had 1 good idea in his life and that was the carefully planned out booking of the 1998 Survivor Series tournament, and I am not even sure how much of that show can be attributed to him because the guy seriously needed someone else in the room to keep him grounded in reality. His outlandish crash TV and swerve booking quickly soured on the viewing audience and now his name is synonymous in the wrestling world with a booker who has no idea how to run a wrestling company or that of a completely inept tempt worker who got promoted to CEO. The shadow of Vince Russo still looms over the wrestling world even 23 years on and even after 2 decades past his biggest failure, he was still given chances in the wrestling biz instead of just disappearing like Jim Herd."
[1.0] "He has Midas' touch, but for awful wrestling. The guy have few to none redeeming qualities, and most of his achievements were made on the back of other people. Dumb idea after dumb idea, almost killed TNA, contributed to WCW's downfall, and has been accused for being at least partly responsible for the death of a beloved wrestler. He made some good? Yeah, maybe, but he needs to be held accountable for all the awful things he has done."
[1.0] "His attempt to repeat a writing success in WCW after WWF became a total garbage and cringy joke. Russo and Hogan's backstage work is the worst thing that we could imagine happened for WCW and at some point TNA. Dark card of wrestling history."
[0.0] "Edited, but the score remains. This guy is a pox upon the earth or perhaps living universe. The incessant use of "bro" seems like an extreme form of Tourette's. Hideous booking mind and has made some really rotten television that could never possibly age gracefully in this space time continuum or any other. I did like that he took Hulk Hogan off tv at that time - but not the way it was done. There are sprinkled bits of "yes, ok - I definitely like that" but a broken clock is right twice a day, so. yup. ZILCH."
[0.0] "Ruined everything he touched. Single handedly one of the worst minds in professional wrestling history and forever a stain on wrestling in general."
[1.0] "I'll give this guy the same number of points as the number of years it seemed like he was actually trying to write coherent, good storylines. Other than that, he was complete shit in the most moronic of ways."
[0.0] "Recently, WWE Network was showing the "Monday Night Wars" documentary, and despite not even being alive during that era, I was hooked rather quickly. The documentary went into great detail about the man known as Vince Russo, and all I can say is wow.. I had heard about him killing WCW but I didn't actually think it had gotten as bad as it did. From what was showcased, he was a horrible booker, an asinine personality on television, and just a shitty human being. His philosophy of wanting to put younger guys over was good on paper, but his vision of it was to fire everyone over the age of 40. That is just ridiculous. WCW 2000, from what was shown, looked like absolutely abysmal programming. The shows were plagued by issues such as the commentary having no clue what to say or what was coming next, technical issues, and god awful matches and storylines. That's not even to mention his saga with Hogan that resulted in him walking out of the company at Bash at the Beach. All of this can be blamed on Vince Russo. Vince McMahon also made a great point about Russo' supposed "success" writing for WWE, in that all of his ideas were good because McMahon was there to put them into motion and make them compelling and executed the best they possibly could be. With no Vince McMahon guiding him, Vince Russo is worthless. And his takes on today's wrestling landscape are absolutely dogshit. Disgruntled, worthless old man who blames everyone but himself for his failures."
[2.0] "A terrible booker. And he was not a great wrestler either. His booking was atrocious, and he takes credit for the Attitude Era when it was guys like the Rock & Steve Austin & Undertaker & Mankind & Triple H and all of them who made it great. Then he tried and succeeded at killing WCW and tried to do the same to Total Nonstop Action wrestling."
[3.0] "Russo has given fans a lot of negatives in his career: Brawl for All, Arquette's title run, Judy Bagwell on a forklift and the Oklahoma character to name a few. Most people do forget some of his better moments: Deadly Games Tournament, Booker T WCW title push, and the Attitude Era. He was better when someone was there to stop his worst ideas. Overall not great as a top promoter/writer but did alright when he was a writer coming up with outside the box ideas."
[1.0] "This guy is one of the major reasons why WCW failed. His crazy ideas are unwatchable (especially DDP-Arquette-Flair-Jarret-Nash title change within 1 month). He made WCW in 2000 become the worst promotion of all time. 1 point for an amazing storyline during the Attitude Era in 1999."
[0.0] "An argument could be made that Vince Russo is not only the worst booker in wrestling, but also the worst storyteller in the history of the English language. Off the top of my head, I honestly can't think of a single book, TV show, or movie that has more incoherent storylines than a standard Vince Russo angle. If you are someone who thinks logically, watching any Russo-booked wrestling program will make your head explode. He's a wrestling booker who seemingly hated wrestling, and a textbook narcissist who constantly put the focus on himself instead of the in-ring talent."
[2.0] "He gets 1 point for his booking of the Deadly Games Tournament in 1998, that was his magnum opus. He gets another point because I like some of his early day TNA stuff. SOME of it, that is. Literally everything else he touched was turned to utter garbage. Russo had the opposite of the Midas touch."
[0.0] "How is he not rated lower? Almost single-handedly destroyed pro wrestling from the late 90s to the mid 2000s. For every good thing about WWF that he was "responsible" for, he was responsible for a ton of shit. ("Brawl 4 All" anyone? ) It was only when he reached WCW and TNA that the bad outshined the good. I would even argue against the claim that he was responsible for the attitude era by pointing out the sheer amount of talent he was working with in Austin, Rock, Foley, Taker, Vince, etc. The fact that his name is alongside Sting and Funk in the history of the WCW title is a blackmark on the business as a whole. I'm with Cornette. Fuck this guy."
[1.0] "He has a couple of positive aspects working in his favor, such as trying to give everyone on the roster something to do, which is what earns him at least a point for effort. Not that those "something to do" were always positive things, but that's a totally different conversation for another day. Russo in the WWF worked because all the stars aligned and he could do no wrong (frankly he could have booked Austin vs The Rock playing UNO or something in the main event of a PPV at that time and it still would have done a killer buyrate), but pretty much everything else he touched was pure shite. I get what he's going for, trying to be different, but how can I buy that 95% of the program is fake apart from that one "this ain't none of that fake crap" part of the show? What motivation does that give me to watch the "fake crap" part as a viewer? It's just nonsensical and it simply is not how wrestling works. At least not the wrestling that I enjoy, speaking for myself."
[1.0] "Contradictory personality! When he was in the WWF, he was held back by Vince McMahon, and after his departure, the WWF even became even better in terms of the quality of the show ... Russo finally killed WCW, which by 1999 was already in a deplorable state when he started working there, many probably at that time time they thought that his ideas would save the company but they were wrong because they did not have a person who could control him! And if before the arrival of Russo, WCW positioned itself as a Sports Entertainment company with sometimes good matches, then Russo turned everything into Crash TV, finally killing the company ... In TNA, his ideas did not work either, and many fans literally screamed for him to be fired."
[8.0] "An outsider to the industry. That meant less narrow-mindness when it came to 'tradition'. Offered a fresh approach to writing wrestling for TV. He stepped on VKM's moto 'characters before wrestling' with his own style and was one of the key parts of WWE's (and wrestling's) most successful period. His drawback, that sometimes he insisted too much on his style of writing. Not all situations allowed his style to succeed (lack of money in TNA, lack of unity and different style in WCW). Demolishing the 4th wall was a big risk, that probably wasn't worth taking, but I'll take that more as a positive. Overall, someone that dared to be different and was pretty successful."
[0.0] "I will utter the words I never thought I would say 'Jim Cornette was right'. His work in WWE and WCW is well known for better or ill. People see, to forget how awful he was when in charge of TNA creative, constant awful story telling, constantly trying to stab people in the back backstage and a weird obsession with 'working the boys' because he pretends to hate the IWC but he writes exclusively for them. His only use today is using him as a helpful benchmark on who to block on twitter, I should probably give him one point just for that."
"Pros: Gave everyone a chance on the roster regardless of their position on the card, Made sure that an ego of wrestlers didn't get in the way of the overall booking, His WWF run spearheaded the boom they had in the late 90's. Cons: Whilst entertaining, after WWF, none of his booking made sense, In WCW and his first TNA run he was the centre of the show despite countless of others being better than him for that role, The WCW title in 2000, All the stupid match stipulations, Never lost a match and beat multiple world champions, Every. Single. Swerve. Bro."
[8.0] "Vince Russo is one of the most polarizing figures in wrestling. Personally I like Russo, his writing is entertaining and 1997 and 1998 are two of my favourite years in WWE's history. Both years where Russo played a huge role in making the show must see TV. By 1999 the WWF got too silly, and once Russo left in late 99 I'm glad Chris Kreski gave us WWF 2000 which I think is the best year in WWE's history. While I haven't seen his WCW work from Oct 1999 - Jan 2000 the ratings stayed in the 3's and I think would have went up if he stayed on. WCW 2000 is something, but it didn't kill the company as many would have you believe. Not seen his TNA work but the ratings are evident, when Russo was with the company the ratings were on the rise. Also Vince Russo is an incredibly entertaining character, his shoot on Hogan at Bash at the Beach 2000 is great. So yeah his writing may have faults, but you got to sometimes laugh at wrestling. While WWF 1999 can be hard at times to sit through, I do appreciate the fact that Russo gave everyone something to do and did help make 1997 and 1998 two of WWE's best years."
[0.0] "Absolute zero, shame and embarrassment and dog faeces in one. I was - and still am a huge WCW fan, I watched it religiously and I still rewatch it on YT all the time, although I don? t watch any current wrestling program at all. I stopped watching wcw in the late 1999 - I had no idea what happened, but suddenly it became unwatchable. I did not know who or what russo was, internet was very new to me then, and I rarely watched wwf, because it was never my cup of tea - I thought wwf? s 1997 was great - I still have vhs tapes at my parents place from that era, my favourite childhood wrestler (Stunning) Steve Austin was becoming huge star as Stone Cold, Bret I always liked, Shamrock came over etc - but I was not wwf cartoon style wrestling fan, it insulted my intelligence even when I was a little kid. Everybody raves about the attitude era, but apart from a few exceptions, I found it lame as hell. Again, Austin vs Bret was absolutely great, The Rock was entertaining, Jericho was entertaining, rest was generally unnecessary vulgar, moronic, cartoony in a different way and Jerry Springer like and I didn? t appreciate it, even as a teenager. I remember seeing Big Boss Man and Al snow program back then - with the dog, I found it pathetic af, Val Venis and the choppy choppy stuff - that has russo written all over it and sorry, but not sorry, this is not good. Yes, I listen to Cornette every week, I know he hates shit stain, but like I said, I stopped watching wcw when russo came over and I had no idea what was going on, I had no idea russo existed, that there was someone new in charge, I just came to realisation, that it started to be unwatchable and it is not a coincidence. He is an individual of a very poor taste, poor judgment, a true pos, which I normally would not say about a person I do not know personally. I give him a zero, only because I cannot give him a negative number, ."
[0.0] "The only reason the attitude era was hot when Russo was the booker is only because the things this man did were so ridiculous that it was seen by the fans as a car crash that they couldn't look away from. And of course with Austin and Rock, people were going to watch the product anyways even if they had to endure the horrible fantasies of vince russo. For every one good idea, he unfortunately had another thousand awful ideas. Made the stupidest decision by making himself and Arquette wcw champion which killed the title and made anyone holding it after them look like a joke. This guy managed to kill a company like wcw which at some points, surpassed the success of wwf and this is the only thing one needs to know to realize how atrocious this guy was at anything he did in the wrestling business."
[0.0] "Brawl 4 All. Winning the WCW World Title. Owen Hart. The Oddities. Oklahoma. Mrs. Bagwell on a Forklift. 2000 Bash at the Beach fiasco. The Reverse Battle Royal. The Last Rites Match. Literally killing WCW and TNA. Naming TNA... TNA. Need I go on? The one good thing this man did was help make enough trash to create Botchomania."
[0.0] "WCW 2000 is probably enough to describe this man's mind. Possibly the worst thing to ever exist in pro wrestling. Even his so called "masterpiece" in the Attitude Era was full of overbooking nonsense. There's a reason why WWF 1998 and 1999 weren't on the level of WWF 2000. It's because he wasn't there in the latter. Simple. And don't even mention his TNA work. Sh*tstain indeed."
[1.0] "He gets a one for the attitude era and recognizing the god level talent of one Phenomenal AJ Styles, though honestly any writer with a brain who watches an AJ Styles match early in his career would get that the man had an unlimited ceiling, so."
[9.0] "Most successful writer in the HISTORY of the business. The mastermind behind the Attitude Era. Dude made Monday Night Raw MUST WATCH TV and the ratings are evidence of that. I genuinely think RAW would be a better show if they made him head writer again. I don't care what anybody says, this guy is a wrestling legend. Putting the world title on David Arquette was stupid though, I think we can all agree on that."
[4.0] "A pioneer of wrestling entertainment. He contributed a lot to the business and is one of the key players that paved the way for wrestling to truly shine as an entertainment business. Unfortunately he also did a lot of bad and contributed a lot to the failure of two promotions in WCW and TNA. TNA has since rebounded but cannot still match its early success during the AJ, Angle and Joe's period. While WCW failed from a lot of nonsensical bookings including two despicable World Title Changes ( one where he himself won). Russo was great in WWE but became despicable in his later years where he self booked himself to a World Title and contributed to the failure of two major wrestling promotions."
[0.0] "One of the worst and most damaging person to ever be associated with wrestling the tiny amount of things he got right are overwhelming tiny compared to the things he did that where offensive or just terrible the wrestling business would be better off if he had never been in it"
[1.0] "By & large, a complete buffoon. I try to listen to him on interviews today & have no clue how anyone can get through more than two minutes of listening to this guy. I get that saying "bro" every other word is his gimmick, but it has to be the dummest thing someone does for fame & relevancy. Somehow he stumbled into a couple decent stories in the 90s. But that has to have been dumb luck. The vast majority of what he's been responsible for has been utter garbage."
[0.0] "This man is literally a wrestling business killer. I think he was the main reason why WCW failed and his booking throughout the whole career was the absolute shit. I don't like his podcasts, I don't like his interviews, I despise this man like no other in this business. Holy shit..."
[2.0] "This dude sank the wcw ship and started the downward spiral that has led to wwe getting complacent. I think the ultimate reason wcw failed and wwe did not was because Vince McMahon is a wrestling guy first and foremost and Ted Turner was not. I don? t think wcw would have ever stayed on top but I think they could have maintained a presence that would keep Vince McMahon honest. Russos terrible booking decisions made sure wcw was buried for good and I? m saying that as a wwe guy, but all that really meant was I watched raw live and taped wcw so it was sad to watch that promotion for the last 2 or so years."
[3.0] "Despite the negatives outweighing the positives when it comes to Vince Russo, the man has done some good things for the business. He made the Rock over as a heel, helped the Attitude Era become popular, and even recognized AJ Styles's potential. Now onto the bad things, Vince ruined WCW in every aspect such as ruining wrestler's careers by putting them in humiliating storylines or giving them awful gimmicks. Do not get me started on his reign as World champion its laughable in every aspect."
[2.0] "One point for mostly booking the "Deadly Game" tournament, one of the few examples where his booking style actually worked and got Rock over as a heel, and another point for recognising the talent of a young AJ Styles and putting him considerably over during early NWA/TNA. Otherwise, it's a big mess of bad to incomprehensible angles, heel turns, and insulting match quality. Russo NEEDS people like Vince to keep him under control, otherwise he just goes balls to the wall with his ideas."
[1.0] "The kind of guy you can not leave unsupervised. Even though he had a few descent ideas he could not work without someone over him validating his ideas or not."
[1.0] "I always try to find positives about wrestling personalities, no matter how much I don't like them. But Vince Russo... sorry, he's the wrestling equivalent of the Great Beast in the Book of Revelation. People sometimes complain about silly or grotesque storylines, lack of logic and horrible matches but trust me as an old WCW fan: compared to what we had to suffer through those things are like the Raven vs Tommy Dreamer feud, the Summer of Punk and the Tanahashi/Okada rivalry. I am giving Russo one point for one reason and one reason alone: as terrible as his booking was, as half-baked his ideas were, as lacking in logic as he was, somewhere in WCW there was somebody in a position of power who actually thought these ideas should be given the green light and put on prime time TV. Let that sink for a minute."
[8.0] "Even though he killed WCW to be honest with you he made the WWF Attitude era excellent. He is a great writer and journalists. His columns in WWF magazine as Vic Venom were great. When he went to WCW he made a joke out of it. He should have never been WCW Champion. Ridiculous feud with Ric Flair."
[0.0] "Vince Russo is a man bereft of any redeemable qualities. His sole talent, his one true ability, has been to spin his contribution to the Attitude Era in such a way that he has been able to live off of that 18-month run of success for almost 20 years. His run in WCW? A failure. His first run in TNA? A failure. His second run in WWE? A failure. His second run in TNA? A failure. Yet there is a segment of wrestling fans who hold this guy in high regard, and believe each and every excuse Russo trots out as to why it's not his fault that he's been an abject failure for almost 20 years."
[0.0] "The worst thing that ever happened to wrestling. He challenged the format and, heavily edited as part of a team, seemed to have a brief period of success, but since then he has destroyed everything he's touched, and now cannot even be hired in wrestling on any level. Awful in every level, try watching him onscreen in WCW and try not to claw your own eyes and ears apart."
[0.0] "Is it ironic that Jim Cornette has five 0 star ratings and Russo has exactly five 10 star ratings? I am 90% sure that those are the same five Russo nuthuggers on both accounts. This man is the worst piece of garbage to ever get involved in professional wrestling. His fanboys think he's responsible for the attitude era when he's responsible for nothing but the fall of WCW and TNA. He's ruined countless careers and promotions. Anything higher than a zero for this guy is just absurd. The guy who gave Russo a ten below me is a complete moron. Greatest creative genius in the business ever? You need to see a doctor ASAP."
Ich würde insofern mit Ravens Urteil über ihn übereinstimmen: "Russo is fantastic for the Midcard, but not great on top"."
[0.0] "“So I have come to the conclusion if you are part of the NXT crowd, the people who were in Orlando, the ‘This is Awesome’ crowd, you fall in three categories. It’s this simple, bro. You’re either A) homosexual. Okay, you like men. For you to react this way, you have to like men. B) You’re either no homosexual but have homosexual tendencies. Or C) You’re in the closet. It’s that simple bro, because men do not react to other men that way.
[0.0] "How does he have an average rating of 3. 41? That's insane. He took WCW and destroyed it, in so many different ways. His decision to make David Arquette the champion remains the most baffling decision in wrestling history. I'm sure if he had more time he would have had Pee Wee Herman become champ."
[0.0] "One of the worst pro wrestling bookers of all time. He's probably only pitched 2 or 3 good ideas in his 20+ year career as a booker. It is baffling to think he has managed to worm his way into so many promotions despite having a key role in destroying WCW and causing TNA's decade long plunge into irrelevancy. Russo simply has no grasp on the fundamentals of pro wrestling and actively disrespects it and everyone who has ever sacrificed blood, sweat and tears over it with angles such as David Arquette winning the WCW world title and switching said title almost 20 times in one year. Oh, and let's not forget he is the self-proclaimed genius behind the brand naming of TNA. He may as well have just booked the promotion into bankruptcy right there and then. Vince Russo is simply an idiot that deserves no attention no matter how stupid he continues to make himself and the world of pro wrestling look."
[4.0] "Russo gets blamed for destroying WCW but a lot of people were involved in the down word spiral of that company. When I think of WCW from June 1999 until the end, I actually preferred the periods where Russo was in charge as opposed to the other creative forces."
[0.0] "This man is an insult to the wrestling business. He literally killed wcw because before he got there they were better. when tna dies he will be at fault and everyone knows how that happened. For example he made himself and David Arquette champion which is just plain stupid. honestly he needs to stay out of the business for his own good."
[0.0] "Who gave this guy 10 points? Who gave him 1 point? I hate him and wish he never came into pro wrestling. He even booked himself as a world champion!"
Ich zitiere Tony Schiavone: "That will put some butts in seats".
[0.0] "Vinny Ru is everything that is wrong with professional wrestling. He's been instrumental in the demise of 2 territories. His asinine ideas have led to one wrestler's death, ruined or damaged the careers of a multitude of others, lies pathologically, and did I mention that his ideas were instrumental in the demise of 2 territories?"
[2.0] "An obnoxious individual who never properly learned about or cared to learn about wrestling. His philosophy was just so completely off base that when he no longer had a filter to keep him honest, he drove the places he worked for into the ground."
[10.0] "He is the man behind the Attitude Era! OK, he's made some mistakes at WCW and TNA but nothing that terrible. To me, he deserves more respect. Love him or hate him, Russo is the greatest creative genius in the business ever! But that is the kind of thing that Vince McMahon and Triple H want you to think, if they don't like someone they just bury him."
[0.0] "He's simply the worst booker in wrestling history. I never lived to see his work in WWF/WCW but what i've seen in TNA is clearly enough to ask how this guy kept a job for so many years."
[1.0] "For every good idea he had, he had about 20 bad ones lined up and ready to launch. Whether the blame of WCW's downfall can rest solely on him is up for debate, but it can definitely be agreed that he doesn't bring anything positive to any company he works for. I give him 1 point because his smarmy New York accent was a great way to piss people off when he played an on-air official. Just keep him away from your creative team!"
[0.0] "Terrible on the air and off the air, Russo is probably the worst pro wrestling booker of all time. His run during his time in WCW was grade A garbage. His run in TNA wasn't any better, without Vince Mcmahon there to filter his terrible ideas Russo is just worthless."
WCW & TNA: 0 Punkte.
Sonst wirds katastrophal - on a pole!"
