[8.0] "Jay White is one of the best heels not just in NJPW but in the entire pro-wrestling today. His work is truly dedicating, and his character makes you truly despised him. Although most of his matches are average in NJPW standards, he is not the type of guy who uses flashy moves and more likely most of his arsenal of moves are heelish. Jay also has a great in-ring psychology as seen in most of his matches acting like a sadistic and sociopathic villain. His time as a Bullet Club member made him a main event star in NJPW and fought the likes of Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada and Kota Ibushi. Safe to say that being a heel in NJPW is what saved him from his career, as they had a lot of babyfaces there in NJPW. A lot of people including me may think that Jay White is the "final boss" because during his time, he is the most stand out heel in NJPW. Unfortunately, upon signing with AEW, he is just another guy that Tony Khan signs as his "flex" and still doesn't have a defining moment a year after he signed but let's see in the future on what to do with him. More so, my basis of this rating is his time in NJPW with a little impact on AEW, although his time in AEW doesn't affect my rating very much due on how little his time there. Jay White resembles a comic book villain come to life. Amazing dark and edgy character."

[8.0] "In an era of super athletic, flippy, thigh slapping wrestlers with flashy moves he was a real breath of fresh air, a great heavyweight wrestler. He is a good athlete with a good look but storytelling and psychology are his greatest qualities. Hiroshi Tanahashi clearly had a huge influence on him on these aspects. He was a great heel, a great fuel for the babyfaces. I'm specifically talking about his run in New Japan as he was used very well there and felt like a star even if he had a relatively rough start. At first he was a more subtle heel who didn't need to cheat to win but for some reason he didn't get a lot of reactions during his first few months. Maybe some of his ideas were a little too subtle I don't know but the first version of Jay White didn't connect with the crowd that well despite being already good at what he did. Then he started to cheat and become a more archetypal heel and it got better for him, the crowd was also more used to his moveset at this point. The run he had after he joined Bullet Club was very successful and he became the top heel of the promotion quickly. Culminating in a great double gold dash where he was the Intercontinental champion and the first big hurdle for Naito's story. Then the pandemic happened and he didn't want to travel to Japan so Gedo had to make some adjustments and Jay wasn't working in Japan for a while. He came back, had a forgettable reign as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, not really his fault as the pandemic was not the best time to watch pro wrestling but it sometimes felt like his head was already elsewhere. Still, he put over Okada in a good enough match but it was obvious the point was just for Okada to get his win back as usual. He had a very good match against Hikuleo where he did his best to put him over and then he went to AEW and it doesn't seem like he has been doing a lot of interesting stuff there. Despite using his goons he lost to a one legged man that already wrestled the same night, and now he's the trios champion of a dead brand (ROH) so obviously that's extremely different from how New Japan used him and he'll probably never be as relevant again but it doesn't seem like he cares that much anyway. I'll remember him for his great New Japan run, he was one of the best wrestlers in the world at that point in time. Could have been a great babyface because he's amazing at selling moves but we never got to the point of getting that babyface run in New Japan despite it being teased a few times. I guess he'll get a decent program here and there in AEW before going back to irrelevancy for months because american wrestling has a very fickle way of working but he could be so much more than just another guy in a bloated roster, that's my point. He's a very talented guy but it has to be very hard for him to show that right now."

A hell of a promo and a very methodical, top of the line counter-wrestler but a lot of the time it just feels like he's going slow for the sake of setting up something that either doesn't happen or it doesn't live up to the previous 25 minutes of build."

[9.0] ""Switchblade" Jay White is one of my current favorite talents in AEW, always enjoy watching him. Jay White is a great wrestler in the ring, he's very similar to Randy Orton in the ring, not flashy, but his moves have a reason to them and make sense. I saw someone point out on Twitter that his moveset consists of him targeting certain areas on his opponents body to make sure his finisher more devastating, which I never noticed until that day, which has made me appreciate his abilities even more. May not sound all that great, but think about how many wrestlers who just do moves for the sake of doing them and compare it to that, get it? Anyways, he's a very charismatic heel with good promo ability, hope he can bounce back from his lost to MJF in that dreadful main event, hate that feud and match so much... (Also would love to see him go solo and separate himself from The Gunns and Juice Robinson)."

Great seller and could even work as a babyface, which can be seen on New Year's Dash 2021. People hating on Jay White only know the overpushed guy from the Kenny Omega feud and his sudden world title win. He has improved a lot and really can be a top guy anywhere he wants to be. EDIT: I sadly have to rate him 2 points lower because his AEW presentation just isn't what I want to see from him. Ib my opinion, he was better off in New Japan."

Schade... Edit: Zu AEW passt er viel besser, wieder 7 Punkte."

He's got a knack for thinking up backup plans for his moves being countered. He's an amazing heel and has all the attributes a heel would have, such as being cowardly, manipulative, and arrogant. He has a ton of charisma and actually made great sense as a leader of modern BULLET CLUB. So why is my rating not higher? Well, its because of one major thing: his match lengths. His matches have an awful often tendency to be SO. DAMN. LONG. He's good, but he relies way too much on his matches being long to be good. I don't understand that. I guarantee he could have an <15 minute match and it would be fantastic. I just wish he himself could realize that."

I think he's right there with MJF and Dominik when it comes to the greatest heels today. The only issue I have with him is how bad his career has gone since the pandemic. Out of the Main NJPW roster for over a year, a run in Impact Wrestling that did nothing for him, an overhyped series of Open Challenges that, without giving bad matches, nothing out of that stood out. Kinda made an impact in his return to NJPW when he won the World Title, but after that he just was on his way out of the company, feuding with Hikuleo out of everyone. [9.0] "Imagine not thinking Jay White is an excellent wrestler. People have taken notice of him more recently due to his natural promo skills and his heel persona, and yes, that's definitely a big part of why he's so great. However Jay White is an exceptional talent even independent of that. He's going to go down as this generation's Bret Hart, not only because of the realistic, grounded nature with which he wrestles, and the excellent with which he controls the momentum of his matches (often employing some of the best counters in wrestling to do so), but also because of how he understands incorporating small details in his matches that make them very satisfying upon rewatch, be it in the form of callbacks to a previous match or subtle ways of making a maneuver more logical (such as ducking a back-elbow strike to position himself for a Saito Suplex). He also just seems to 'get' selling in a way that so many people don't. Very often, wrestlers play up the impact of a move to a hammy degree as a way to make matches more accessible and easier to follow, but with small things such as moving away from his opponent as he sells an injury or getting out of a pin with the least effort possible, Jay White is able to, for lack of a better way of putting it, 'sell with a brain', and he does so better than virtually anyone I've seen post-Bret Hart. It also has me thinking that Jay could end up being a dynamite in-ring babyface one day, even if he'll probably draw more as a heel."

[10.0] "Jay White is one in a million. He is an outstanding worker, he might be the best promo in the world today, and he is a master of psychology. I could go into detail about his awesome counter sequences, but one thing about his matches that always sticks out to me is how he cheats: I think that he is the only active wrestler today whose cheating actually makes a match better. Sure, other workers like MJF will cheat to advance a story, get over as heels, or set up a more exciting spot for a future bout. But the matches where they win by cheating almost always would been better had they either lost or not cheated. Jay White is an exception to this rule. His secret is surprisingly simple: instead of cheating at the end of a match, he cheats in the middle, thereby not sacrificing an exciting back-and-forth finish, but he does it in such a way that he pulls you into the action, rather than taking you out of it. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Jay White's character work is unrivaled by any other heel: he is a slimy asshole at first glance, but when a high-stakes match becomes more heated, he becomes so desperate that you pity him if he loses. I will never forget when he, practically in tears, literally begged for Ibushi to tap out at Wrestle Kingdom. I am confident that there has never been anyone quite like him."

Him pulling out anything he needs to in order to get the victory is another thing which shows how good he is at being a Heel and this can be seen in his Classics with Ibushi and the criminally underrated match with Ospreay at the 47th anniversary show in which he showed off his amazing creativity and sold like hell for Ospreay, If you want to make somebody look good in the ring then putting them against Jay White might be one of the best things you can do. I have spoken alot about his slow style but he is also capable of working the typical modern New Japan epic style if needed as he has alot of creative ass shit in his arsenal and being the kind of wrestler he is this allows him to pull these moves out at the right time having the crowd eat out the palm of his hand. One thinks he's boring and one of the most overrated wrestlers in New Japan and the other thinks that he's underrated and one of the best heels in the industry today. I'm in the latter of the two but i'm not going to overlook his flaws which are glaring in his matches. First let's call a spade a spade. White is a world-class heel. When he first showed up in NJPW i wasn't impressed. After he got pushed, he proved his worth. White has a very classic style way of working a match. He understands psychology and how important it is in a match or against a babyface. He's great on the mic and his counter/reversal wrestling is on the same level as Okada. He's that smooth. He brings something unique yet original to the table which i have great appreciation for. Unfortunately i have begun to notice several issues with Jay White matches. The booking of Jay White matches don't have much variation. White is great in the G1, but the booking of each match is almost copy pasted. His matches have begun to have westernized booking. At what point does the cheating and interference overstay it's welcome and weigh down the workrate? His match with Kota Ibushi in the G1 Climax 29 final is one of my favorite matches and the interference beautifully played into the story. But when the interference is in every one of his matches it begins to lose it's magic and get repetitive. White's in-ring work used to be hit or miss, but he's gradually improved. He perfectly mixes impactful, believable offence with believable character work. Jay White is a one of a kind wrestler right now and if he works out a few kinks he could reach his full potential."

Jay returned from excursion when NJPW was getting more and more settled into its current epic main event formula and shook it up with a style that seemed more suited to heeling it up in the NWA in the '80s than hanging with Okada or Omega's brand of storytelling. His work was infuriating at first for the right AND the wrong reasons, his cheating and scouting tampering with the flow of matches in a great heel way but also exposing a lot of his weaknesses. Gradually, though, he's worked those out and has been putting on clinics for more than a year, culminating in his phenomenal performance at WK15. Along the way he became the best heel and the best promo of his time, and given his age and his safe working style, he seems to have nowhere to go but up and may wind up one of the definitive wrestlers of his era."

They always follow the same pattern, with rarely a variation; stall a little, tease cheating from Gedo, wrestle for however long, and then go into the same series of distractions, bumps and interference spots that you could call in your sleep because they're always in the same order at the same point in each and every match."

That being said, White has done a great job showing that not only does he deserve to be in that slot, but that he might be one of the most talented young wrestlers out there at the moment. White physically can work at a smooth and fast pace, through you wouldn't know it considering he's taken a far more methodical pace that fits his heel character, a devious opportunist that'll take a win from anywhere and at the worst of moments. The guy is already a master at working the crowd at such a young age and is probably the first BC leader in a long span of years to be actually hated by the crowd, which is no mean feat. Much like Ogawa, White isn't afraid to use dirty tactics when it suits him, and actually reviles in his dickhead reputation to great effect: he comes across as cartoony at points, but never to a embarrassing extreme like EVIL or whatnot. The heat he got from stealing Ibushi's title shot for instance was unadulterated in how salty it got people, both irl and even on the smarkest of forums. A great old school heel and will be a star in the business, regardless of where he ends up."

As said, his in-ring and athletic skills are nothing if not magnificent, and even at his young age he has already amply "paid his dues" so pushing him is absolutely no-brainer. But since NJPW sold millions of Bullet Club t-shirts back in 2014 and Gedo and Jado love their interference and especially low blows (why this obsession with low blows anyway? ) Jay White keeps on paying his dues as the bland Switchblade instead of fully unlocking his potential. He's another young wrestler I really really hope will become a huge act in the future because he just deserves it."

At the age of 26 he already possesses a masterful understanding of just how someone should wrestle. His style, being very methodical and psychology-driven, allow him to dominate specific parts of a match while making the opponent's sudden bursts of momentum and offense feel that much greater. It feels like an old-school way of working, that both looks like a legitimate match and makes everything he does purposeful. Some people may find his subtleties and quriks to be revolutionary, and while I personally find that a somewhat outrageous claim (other wrestlers have done what he does years before White), they do make him look that much more ahead of his peers (one of his best being how he moves out of the position his opponent's finisher needs - simple, but so good to see). His mic work is often overlooked, but Jay White does hold a silver tongue that knows how to make key wrestlers and matches feel important. From his debut against Tanahashi where he was awkward and looked out of his own depth, he has grown into one of NJPW's top gaijin in a time where they needed him most. It's still too early to see how his future will turn out, but if we can give him the chance and "Breathe with the Switchblade", maybe he really can change the wrestling world."

At times, he can get good heat but sometimes his top work controlling segment is really dull and unexciting. Moreover, NJPW keep sticking with 30+ minute epics which really expose his in-ring work more. Sometimes, I feel like his heel work feels forced and unnatural as well. He has been really disappointing a lot since his comeback. I wouldn't say he is bad but still far from great. He is nowhere near the top Gaijin as Omega or AJ used to be. He was always a promising young lion, and then I had no idea what to make of his new heel character once he returned with his majorly underwhelming WK match. But he quickly turned things around. He became quickly accustomed to his character, feeling much more natural in how he carried himself in the ring and backstage, and he immediately became the biggest heel in the company. This was sadly parcelled with his matches not being the best (though still good), since he was so busy being a heel that he wouldn't give us the extraordinary clashes we came to expect from NJPW's pushed stars. I slowly became quite enamoured with Jay's style though, as I was intrigued by how truly intelligent he was in planning every possible way to avoid his opponents' attacks and ensure his own attacks landed with the most damage possible. His transitions and counters became very entertaining, especially since his unusual style would play very well off of the large number of 'normal' wrestlers he was facing, since they'd all have different responses to Jay's antics. By 2019, Jay has now completed the final part of the puzzle, as he has proved many, many times that, putting aside the sneaky, cowardly, methodical heel work, he can also work the trademark big-match NJPW style. His matches with Ospreay and Okada are in my current top 10 MOTY list, and his matches with Ibushi and Ishii in the G1 were also great. In those matches he easily gave traditionally compelling performances with his incredible selling (which at times almost made him into a sympathetic babyface), fantastic physicality, incredibly creative set-ups, and impeccable technique. Jay is a genuinely slimy and detestable character that we all want to see get his comeuppance, but he's also a charismatic and skilled wrestler, and I thus appreciate the range that he covers."

Perhaps it's how I watch wrestling; I'm the analytical type, not much for yelling and cheering and getting swept away with emotions. Whenever White does his heel antics, I just roll my eyes as it's predictable what happens next (momentum shifts in his favor, I'm supposed to be upset, but I actually don't care). White's heel antics are not innovative, unless you think him dead weighting near the end of a match for an inevitable counter of some kind is some stroke of genius. It's been done before, as everything has been done before in wrestling, and he does it continuously, which gets repetitive and tiring. I'll admit that Jay White is a good wrestler, and I'd still watch him before other lackluster wrestlers who get his level of push. But he is not great, not the best heel (ever), best gimmick, or whatever hyperbolic statements his godawful fanbase sheepishly spouts. He is not the caliber of wrestling talent as the other 'big 3' of NJPW, or even a top 10, as he lacks both the popularity and tenure. He has done nothing to bolster Bullet Club as a stable except to appease the absolute worst type of internet smark who still whine about Omega's BC a year ago for having simply replaced him. He's been given clean wins over top talent in their first match together, destroying any kind of interest or buildup for subsequent matches (it takes most wrestlers several attempts to beat Okada, but he won the first two times). This is despite needing to cheat to win in various other matches, so he can supposedly hang with the best of NJPW, but not always? Even Okada needed his obstacles to overcome, but the reality is White's already overcame almost all of them in less than two years. He's a guaranteed G1 winner someday, guaranteed multi-time Heavyweight champion, and while you mindlessly parrot his catchphase, I'll be invested in anything that doesn't involve him."

His facial expressions also look goofy at times. The Switchblade gimmick makes no sense either and reeks of NJPW shoehorning nicknames for every roster member. I hope they'll tone it down in the future, sort of like how Kenny Omega ditched the Cleaner shtick with the broom. Finally, Jay has a great physique but something about his face makes it look like he's not a wrestler. Very weak jaw with a young face. Maybe this will change with age or a beard/hairstyle change. If you look at his work while he was a young lion or on excursion, Jay strikes me as a natural babyface, a face who is now making the best out of a heel gimmick that didn't initially suit him. He's growing into it though, at least according to his fans. Personally I still don't take him seriously as a top guy. I expect him to be at or near the top of the NJPW card for many many years to come."

But the next night at New Year Dash when he attacked Omega, I was hooked. The best promo in NJPW and while not the best in-ring is still spectacular. He is also the only guy in NJPW that gets genuine heat and I love it."

He has his slimy POS character down and it's been awesome ever since his angle with Juice Robinson. His in-ring work is great and improving every time out and the crowds are starting to react to him more and more. His matches against Finlay, Kyle Fletcher and just recently against Juice have shown his growth. Hope he gets even better during the g1"
