Prior to the WWF's national expansion, SD seemed to be positioned for an upper mid card run at any moment but it never happened, usually he was giving a win to in coming heels and established veterans alike. SD was hot & in during the late 70's/early 80's but by the mid 80's he was kind of washed up; usually he was annoyingly tentative and used weak offense. In the rising golden era, far too many times beating SD wasn't beating much. His earlier work is recommended to see why he was a threat "in theory" during the latter years. Check out the first few months of 1981 especially, it helps his case. (Wrestling history is fun, in the early 80's Jones was getting victories over the man who would later portray "King Kong Bundy" - let that sink in for a few moments! ) 6.75 |

But without being biased, SD Jones is probably the best babyface jobber ever. Unfortunately, you knew the guy was gonna lose whenever he is on a TV card, but he still had a few wins then and there against the Jobber heels. Even if he was a jobber, he still got his own action figure, had his face plastered all over WWF promotional snack items, and was involved in WrestleMania 1 losing against King Kong Bundy. I may also mention that he probably is the most booked jobber in pro-wrestling history with working over 1900 matches with the WWF. |

Aside from the memorable match with Bundy, and the battle royal spot where he lost a coin toss to Tony Atlas to decide the winner because as tag partners they didn't want to fight, I watched a house show from 1987 and SD Jones totally botched an electric chair drop with Rick Rude and instead of falling back with Rude, he just kinda shrugged him off and poor Rude just fell awkwardly in a bad spot. Those are the three big memories of SD Jones. |

I just used to fast forward through most his matches unless I was in serious love with his opponent |

Strong enough to almost body slam Big John Studd when only Andre could. His limited mobility prevented him from being a regular mid card performer, he gains an extra point for completing his task to perfection. Once a rising villain entered the territory, they'd dispose of the fodder jobbers and get some mic time. Once established as a talent to watch, they'd next be pairied with SD and, after a key Jones error, they'd win a exciting back and forth contest. The villain would then go on to fight the likes of Tony Garea and then elevate to main event status with a possible title run. One thing was for certain, all major bad guys had to run through Jones. Further they were all in trouble at one point in the match. RIP. |
