105.09.2025Tom LeBlanc7.0Bassarab was very underrated. Athletic, smooth in the ring, and a natural babyface, he could easily hang with the Harts and Bulldogs. His team with Owen Hart really showed his chemistry and ability, but politics and personal issues kept him from ever breaking out. A very talented worker who deserved a bigger career than he got.
202.06.2025bherbert19806.0Ben Bassarab is one of the more underrated names from the Stampede Wrestling scene. A solid worker with impressive athleticism, clean execution, and babyface fire, he had all the tools to be a breakout star in the 1980s. His tag team work, especially with Owen Hart, showcased great chemistry and energy, and his smooth in-ring style held up well against the stiff, fast-paced Stampede standard. Where things fell short was his ability to break out beyond that regional scene. Despite rumors of interest from the WWF, backstage politics and personal tensions -- particularly with the Hart family after his split with Alison Hart -- likely played a role in those doors not opening. He never got the big-stage opportunity his skillset may have warranted. As a worker, Bassarab was better than a lot of people remember
309.09.2016thebigmontbowski7.0Bassarab was one of a lot of neverending churn of really great young stars promoted as faces on Stampede. He was quite athletic and teamed a lot with a young Chris Benoit. He truly seemed, if I recall, to come up through the system Stu had in place in order for a young talent to even get on the show. I recall him very early in his career, along with Benoit for that matter, literally spending the vast majority of matches selling. It could be painful to watch because essentially, they would pull a move or two, then get grounded and beat on for ten minutes. Pull another few moves in a rage, go back to the pounding for a few minutes. I only mention it because it speaks to his toughness, because he certainly was that. I do not know the story, but somehow his marriage to Alison Hart went badly due to him being well, a pro wrestler, basically and living the life a bit too hard. It put him out of favour with Stu and one day he was just gone it seemed.
