101.12.2023Conquistador373.0The Big Cat almost had me, but some short comings really damage him. His punches looked so weird/bad/frail. His movements were sometimes very awkward and it was obvious he was either hurting or had hurt something to the point where it was now totally anatomically incorrect. This made some matches pathetic and unwatchable. His mic skills were very strong & his voice was so unique, charming and captivating. But sometimes he said some really bizarre things that I will not dare go into detail over, but WOW! ...very shocking at times. You can get heel heat without resorting to the lowest hanging fruits. One of those cases where I really enjoy some matches/things, but the same amount leave me gasping in horror and shame. EDIT: Absolutely hideous at commentary "beyond a shadow of a doubt"...."beyond a shadow of a doubt, beyond a shadow of a doubt, BeYoNd A sHaDoW oF a DoUbT, BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT, " I won't do it more because the b@st@rd says it 86 times a fkn match for crust's sake STOP IT! this drags him down to a 3, this guy SUCKS. Beyond a shadow of a MUTE BUTTON doubt. UGH!

822.09.2022TheOneAndOnlyCactus10.0The Big Cat is another important face in the history of wrestling that isn't talked about very often nowadays. The big man could go in the ring. Quite agile and fluid in his movements, as well as a believable seller, but most importantly, an amazing talker who could get heat like few others in his time. Helpful in breaking the color barrier in the South as well in the wrestling business, what's not to love with him?

1020.05.2022hirsty979.0Not half bad in the ring, one of the more exciting guys of the 1970s, a great promo guy, really innovative in that regard. I was also a big fan of his commentary work in Midsouth. Bonus points for breaking colour barriers down south in his era of professional wrestling.

1220.10.2020Shoot Headbutt Lover8.0Agile Big Man and a very charismatic personality. I'm not super familiar with his career but from what I've seen from him he was one of the best in the North American scene at the time.
1331.07.2019KyleEnjoysWrestling8.0Very underrated performer from the Classic Era, Ernie Ladd was a great big man & could certainly move well for his size. He had a terrific look & worked really well as a heel against guys such as Bruno, Strongbow, & Andre. He was also a gem on the mic. My favorite Ladd moment was when he was talking to Vince & kept calling him "Mr. TV Announcer" & challenging McMahon to slap him. You just don't see things like that with the boring backstage interviews that we get today.
1424.06.2019IsThisWrestling10.0One of wrestling's greatest attractions, as well as one of its greatest promos. Such an amazing performer that wrestled far harder than anyone of his stature and notoriety needed to. An incredibly powerful presence.
1529.12.2018JEK 199110.0One of my favorites of all time. Very skilled in the ring. At 6"9 he could do anything in the ring. He broke color barriers in professional wrestling history by becoming the first colored booker.

1804.09.2016SpruseJohnson10.0Like it or not Ladd could draw a crowd. He was one of the best talkers of his time and while yes his in-ring work was not at the level of Race or Flair he played the heel to perfection. His fued with Rhodes in Florida was outstanding. If I can think of a wrestler who deserved on of the big 3 WHC it would be him.
1919.11.2015Squared Circle10.0A consumate pro. He was big, athletic and good with the mic. He could generate a feud in seconds, Bruiser, Baker, Strongbow, Atlas etc. A clean win over Ladd would validate a champions reign, Backlund, Morales and Inoki. The Inoki loss was key to validating the NWF in it's early years. His rating gets an extra point for helping to bring that Federation into prominence. He also got title shots against legend Sammartino and Funk Jr. He was effective in four major organizations, as the NWF was indeed major when he was in it. He grabbed gold early on with a good AWA tag run. One of the few who could stand in there with Andre and not look tiny. On additional point for working several territories at once effectively. RIP Big Cat

2104.05.2014Hieronymus8.0Few wrestlers are as colorful or exciting as the "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd. A former NFL player, The 6'9" 319lb Ladd towered over his peers in the 1960's and 70's. Not content with merely squashing his opponents, Ladd would take to the mic and make wildly comical (and often insensitive) threats such as "I'm gonna pluck them feathers! " (Jay Strongbow) and "I'm gonna take Tony Atlas and send him back to Africa! " Notable for being one of the first black heel wrestlers, he'd pretend to be in serious pain when facing trouble during matches and take to the corner citing "an old football injury, " while making use of the opportunity to wrap a foreign object in his hand that he'd gouge opponents with. Far from a gimmick wrestler, Ladd was quick and nimble for his size, capable of convincingly selling moves for smaller or inferior wrestlers. Although he held NWA titles at various times, he is perhaps best remembered for famously squaring up against Andre The Giant throughout his career in a series of exciting pre-steroid era power matches. After his in-ring career began to wind down, he would utilize his unique charm in a commentary role for the WWF.
