119.04.2024JediSaiyanMaster12034.0While I admit that Michael Cole isn't the worst commentator of all time and he's had chemistry with Pat McAfee, but that's all the positives I can give you. I don't get this reevaluation that Michael Cole is getting when he's still a mediocre at best commentator who is only serviceable when he's being carried by vastly superior commentators like Taz. He gives off the energy of someone who wasn't a wrestling fan and just a normal broadcaster, but not a good one. I can't tell you how much I hate whenever he uses the phrase "vintage" or will say "oh my" or "can it be? " or "you gotta be kidding me" whenever a big moment or a return happens, immediately deflates the moment. While it's nice WWE acknowledges pro wrestling outside of WWE/WCW/ECW, hearing Michael Cole using words like "professional wrestling" and talking about other companies just feels unnatural and ineffective, it feels like he's saying these things just to win the internet fans over. Overall, while he's gonna go into the WWE's Hall of Fame no matter what, I'm still not sold on him, he still sounds the same but without Vince shouting in his ear to say ridiculous nonsense, and his heel run is one of the all time worst heel runs any individual in pro wrestling could ever have. I get he has longevity in the WWE, but so does Kevin Dunn and he sucks too.
209.04.2024EthanBenfield If this was 2020 I would have agreed with most of the negative comments. However, with Vince no longer being in his ear all night, and with his chemistry with McAfee, I have come to realize how good he is when he is allowed to be himself.

607.04.2024Wllfriedzaha1.0Horrific commentator with an awful voice. Recently began breaking kayfabe which is just strange. The oh my and can it be nonsense for every great return. The voice of the worst era of wwe and now parades himself around like some legend. Awful. Its hated but he peaked as a heel commentator as a miz fanboy as he could actually get some heat and wasnt painful to listen t. now he just reads the internet and says that in order to get brownie points. Does have a tough job following Jim Ross to be fair to him but theres so many better
704.04.2024YellowJournalism9.0Michael Cole is great. Michael Cole was great even when Vince McMahon was yelling in his ear. He made it to the top for a reason, he knows how to convey what's going on int he moment while also bringing his own personality into his commentary. In my opinion, his work with Jerry Lawler holds up just as well as the work he is doing today.

1702.03.2024IDriveAFordFusion6.0Michael Cole is like NASCAR on NBC's Rick Allen (I know it's like comparing apples to oranges when it comes to the different topics they cover, but I feel like both are similar in commentary style), you are either going to love his commentary or dislike it a lot. I feel like Michael Cole can come off annoying at times, but he is very solid for the most part, he's even better when he gets excited about something, like his commentary when Rey Mysterio was hitting Dominik with a belt at Wrestlemania 39, that was a pure gold reaction from Michael. His obsession with heel Miz in 2011 was not really that good but it was somewhat funny, but also obnoxious at times. Overall, Michael deserves a 6, but he isn't close to the best commentator in Pro Wrestling history.
1825.02.2024new era lover10.0He is the most consistent commentator of all time. I dont get the hate, I never did, he fits his character perfectly. He never lets, like, blank scenes without commentating, cause there are commentators who just dont talk all the time. He always knows what to say and makes a show entertaining by himself. Why do you think raw suddenly started getting better in 2022-2023. I think he is the best example of a play by play commentator. I really dont know what to say bad about him. Maybe sometimes he gets too into not breaking the 4th wall but thats just how his character is

3129.11.2023Akatsuki8.0Michael Cole's career from the PG era & onward had a lot of down moments with a few good commentating here and there. However, during his run with Ruthless Aggression SmackDown, he genuinely seemed like he cared about his job & clearly was having fun and a lot more energetic calling some classic matches during this time. Even in his small stint on Raw during the Attitude Era was decent. He doesn't get a rating higher than 8 though because he was one of the few individuals who severely got worse when the PG era came into fruition.
3222.11.2023joniii4.0People keep seemingly going on about how Michael Cole has turned a new leaf after his ear has been McMahon free but I don't think he's good still. Most of his commentary sounds like it's played back from a WWE 2K game with occasional extra lines added, and me and my friend have a thing where we go "shut up Cole" when we watch PPV's every time some dumb sh*t comes out if his mouth. And he says enough for that to become a habit. There's commentators that are way way better like Kevin Kelly, Schiavone, Riccaboni, Taz, Excalibur, Barrett and Kevin Patrick.
3322.11.2023Chriswarrior118.0A legend on the mic he had a lot of bad years cause of the Vince booking of the commentators and mainly of him and JR. His run as a heel was a disaster but when he is allow to do his job like his been allow right now under Triple H he showing why he is showing he is one of the best like he showed some moments before once he was allowed.

3622.10.2023Josh768.0I am very surprised the low rating for Michael Cole. I would think he would be at an 8 or 7 at least. The guy goes out of his way to commentate for World Wrestling Entertainment for around 25 years and hasn't missed more than 4 shows. He is quick on the mic and has said some very memorable lines.

4324.09.2023Okaro1437.0Cole was a trope, a very generic play by play commentator and the matches he called were void of passion. He did his work well but still he was dull without personality. Things have changed though after he started calling with Pat Mcafee, he has become more free, more fun, more passionate and less predictable and tedious. Even after McAfee quit, he kept the passion he had with McAfee going. He is no longer bounded by the shackles that had held him down and is so fun right now. He isn't completely free from making mistakes but still, his work is so much better now.
4415.09.2023perconflncns9.0The average for cole on this website is blasphemous, his commentary is some of the most passionate and enthusiastic in the entire history of the business. Unparalleled energy that consistently elevates matches and I'm glad at least the more recent comments on here are understanding of the legend status he holds.

4726.08.2023Number One Omosapien10.0This man has been getting way better without Vince in his ear, specifically since Pat came along, and then he's gone uphill from there. He does Smackdown and Raw, hate him or love him he's been the voice of the WWE. His commentary throughout the Bloodline saga is top tier. This man calls his matches with unmatched energy and enthusiasm, and we're beginning to see a lot of that shine through since senile Vince stopped talking to him through the headset. Pairing young guys like Kevin Patrick with him will only help them as well
4826.08.2023Emanuel606goatF10.0He's been getting so much better since he's had Pat's company. The Show with him has a completely different vibe, just compare it to the other narrator for example, who is still miles away from Cole. I feel he is underrated and deserves more respect for his years and dedication to the sport... Having to put up with Vince's voice in your ear for over twenty years couldn't have been easy. At the end of the day, he is the best that the Company (WWE) has to offer us, great to know that he now does Smackdown and RAW! This will give extra credibility to the shows every week, you can be sure of that.
4905.08.2023KKeanel9.0It's funny how people immediately changed their mind about Cole when Vince stepped down. He has been going solid through his whole career, just delivered some fresh stuff without old man screaming to the earphones. Michael is living legend of WWE and his voice alongside JR, The King, The Brain and Gorilla will be recognized with most memorable moments of this company.
5026.07.2023yungbono9.0If it comes to commentary, he's the GOAT. You can hear that he loves what he's doing. Amazing career.
5114.07.2023NickJammer222110.0The greatest play by play commentator of all time due to his longevity and his ability to call matches with unmatched enthusiasm as well as constantly keeping the audience's focus with quickfire commentary as well as unmatched energy. Anyone saying that Michael Cole is not a great commentator should be ashamed of themselves
5213.07.2023BigDouglasFade7.0
5311.07.2023BigDave12310.0The undisputed GOAT of commentary. Get so much unnecessary criticism because he "didn't start in the business" or because they just miss Jim Ross. His enthusiasm, delivery and passion as well as being able to give information for newer viewers makes him perfect as the main play by play commentator for WWE.
5402.07.2023Rainmaker41964.0
5502.07.2023IronManic0.0Ok this is atrocious. For about a year now, people have been saying "Michael Cole is the greatest commentator" and has become "much better" under Triple H's regime. I've been hearing him for about 2 decades & he still sounds just about the same. What, just because he says the word "wrestling" it makes him the greatest? Or just because he can mention outside promotions, it makes him the greatest? No. A GREAT commentator is able to make you invested in all the products and shows. Jim Ross back then did it every week on Raw and the PPVs. Michael Cole sounds so bored, forced and robotic on SmackDown every week. He does slightly increase his energy on PPVs, but only for a few matches. Cole still gets the moves wrong, sounds forced, boring, stale and as I said robotic. I know he's been getting booed for 25 years, but now apparently fans cheer for him when he makes his entrance? If this is true, they only cheer just cause they want to be a part of the popularity pack. Pat McAfee (the guy everyone likes) praised Cole every time in 2021 and 2022. Like I said, when a popular guy like Pat praises Cole, everyone else will bandwagon. Michael Cole was at his best with Tazz, but only for those few years. For 26 years in total, he just didn't sound too interested. Has a robotic voice, messes up a lot, trips over his words frequently, and doesn't sound too invested. 0, since he's been here for 26 years and still is generic. He'll only be inducted into the HOF only for his long tenure and longevity. NOT his skills.

5821.06.2023GonzoAppreciator3.0I know a lot of people like to say Cole would be a great commentator without Vince in his ear but I just don't subscribe to that belief. He's defintley gotten better over the last few years but that doesn't make up for the downright terrible work he's done for the majority of his career. And then there's that awful heel run which was easily one of the worst heel runs in wrestling history.
5918.06.2023Hiimfriendly4.0
6010.06.2023crs2858.0When he does not have Vince in his ear and is allowed to have fun he is one of the best commentators in pro wrestling. With the right commentary partner he can enhance every match on the show. Just don't make him play the heel because that was annoying.
6109.06.2023arminamin9.0Without Vince in his ear he is an amazing commentator. He is definitely the best current commentator and one of the best of all time
6223.05.2023Mister Cute Face4.0He's clearly talented, but man is Michael Cole a tough voice to listen to every week for 20 years. I hate the stuff Vince has him say and how shilly he is. I get that's part of the job, but we never hear him talk about lower card matches as they happen. He's telling you what hashtags to use, talks about the main event story, and reminds you to tune in for the next event. Again so much of this is out of his control, but the overexposure has ruined him for me.

7011.03.2023OnlyHalfTheEffinShow8.0Cole gets a bad rap, and understandably so. He's the mouthpiece for the off-his-rocker overlord of WWE Vince. When Cole actually gets to just do his job, without having to echo out whatever shitty scripts creative forces on him and when he isn't playing the worst heel of the PG era, he's a good commentator in my opinion. His calls of "Mick Foley has accomplished his dream! And the dreams of everyone who was told, you can't do it! " Or "Seth Rollins just pulled the heist of the century" are legendary. Cole does benefit heavily from a good broadcasting partner, his work with Taz was always enjoyable, and lately Pat MacAfee has been able to seemingly bring Cole's passion back into commentating. For the amount of years he's given to the WWE, he deserves better.
7109.03.2023Jacob Jones8.0Something that gets forgotten about when it comes to Michael Cole is that he has had many peaks and valleys throughout the course of his twenty-five year career in WWE. Once the butt of many jokes when starting out, Cole first came to his own when he substituted for Jim Ross during his issues with bell's palsy. While not to the caliber of the legendary announcer, Cole did manage to hold his own and it was likely one of the reasons why when SmackDown was created, he became that show's primary announcer. It wasn't until 2002, however that he hit his first peak, forming an excellent tandem with Taz that lasted four years, showcasing both his in-ring IQ and his knack for comedic timing. He wouldn't have to wait long to find his second peak, forming another solid duo with JBL that lasted until 2008 when he was drafted to RAW. This is where the first valley of his career came into play. While, yes, Cole was (and still is) a good announcer for RAW, he was always going to be compared to J.R because simply put, he's not good ol' J.R. His voice doesn't carry the same emotional weight as him and his banter with Jerry Lawler wasn't as strong. Things got really bad commentary-wise in 2010 however, when Michael Cole became the world's most obnoxious heel, and while, yes, he did an excellent job playing this role, it came at the cost of commentary quality. Thankfully, this was axed in late-2012 and he reverted to babyface thanks to his excellent coverage regarding Lawler's horrific heart attack. For a while afterwards, he was...alright! He had some annoying moments and mannerisms (thanks in large part to Vince yelling at his ear) but when he was good, he was one of the top commentators in the game. Since 2020, however, Cole has had a renaissance, embracing his intelligence and love for the sport and playing more to his strengths (that being the straight-man compared to his companion's shenanigans), especially when it came to teaming with Pat McAfee, the best announcer/color commentator duo WWE has seen since Ross/Lawler. He's stepped up his game not just on television, but on PPV as well, and with this run, it's here Michael Cole has finally ascended to what the company has wanted all along. To be the voice of WWE.

7402.02.2023AugustBurnsRed8.0Michael was great as an interviewer during the attitude era. Good as a commentator with Taz during ruthless aggression era. Current era he's also not too horrible. His only real bad era was parts of the PG era where he had Vince in his ear the whole night, I can forgive him.
7518.01.2023BongStroman6.0
7615.01.2023PhenomenalGun8.0Under Vince's management, Cole was downright insufferable and was justifiably despise. However, under Triple H's management I think we're starting to see more of his true commentary. I believe we saw glimpses of that when he commentated alongside Triple H, but now his chemistry with other announcers and his calls are getting considerably better. He's definitely talented and there's no way he'd have this job for this long if he didn't have all of this talent waiting to be let out. Wish he had more freedom for more of his career but at least he's got it for now.
7702.01.2023LivingLegend10.0July 2022-present day Michael Cole is my favourite wrestling commentator. He feels so genuine and the way he talks now feels like a massive weight has been lifted off his shoulders. Like he's been set free. His enthusiasm feels real instead of produced. He can say the word "wrestling" and can talk about history from outside of the WWE bubble. His chemistry with Pat McAfee and even recent partner Wade Barret is excellent. 2022 has been the year of Michael Cole. For over 20 years he sounded lifeless, robotic, and his buzzwords were obnoxious. His heel run was a dark time for WWE programming. But after the tumor in his ear known as Vince McMahon was sent kicking and screaming to his retirement, Michael Cole has been revitalized. One of the best improvements since the new regime.
7829.11.2022LT7.0
7928.11.2022Enriquepollazzo8.0He used to be the worst ever and should be rated very low for his career work, but since I am rating it after his best ppv in awhile (survivor series 22) I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he is going to be this good now without VKM in his ear.

8108.11.2022TSwifty7.0I've changing my rating from a 1 to a 7. I've really started to appreciate how much Cole has gotten right over his career. There's a long time period which I still can't stand him, around 2010-16 for example. The corporate script made everything sound unnatural and when they tried to turn him heel it was awful. But let's get to the good things. Cole and Taz were a great commentary booth during the 2000's. They were only overshadowed because of JR/King. When Cole was paired with Pat it felt like Cole's passion was reignited. They're genuinely fun to listen to. It's gotten better since Vince's departure. Cole's actually allowed to say "wrestling" and call referees by their names and reference other promotions. He sounds like a real person. His over the top calls are hilarious too. Lesnar flipping the ring at SummerSlam, Dominik beating up his father at Extreme Rules, etc. God-tier stuff.

8424.10.2022AxlRouth7.0Michael Cole during the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Era's of WWE was very good at his job and the combination of him with Taz was only rivaled by JR and King. When Vince McMahon began to squeeze Cole's individualality out and force him to stick to a rigid corporate script he did it better than any other announcer could as he's the only one that has lasted from the late 90's to today. Now in late 2022 with Vince gone and Triple H giving him back his soul he has become one of the best things about SmackDown. He's having so much fun now, he's calling all the right moves, he's referencing previously taboo things such as indie promotions and the term "pro wrestling." He has to be given the credit he rightly deserves.

8612.10.2022AlDente017.0I think Michael Cole's okay. He's not the best commentator, but he's very faithful and devoted to WWE - he was able to do humiliating things at times, it was stupid but it's proof that he loves WWE and loves wrestling. Plus, there's a big change for the better since Vince doesn't scream in the headphone what to say.
8709.10.2022JustAWrestlingFan8.0I have extreme amounts of respect for Cole for his 25+ years served to the company. He has been insufferable at points, but when he is good he is extremely good. Hoping to keep him as the voice of WWE for many years to come still.

9907.07.2022danzgalliwag8.0Michael Cole used to be a huge part of why I couldn't stand watching WWE. But honestly the more I think about it, he's way better at his job than most people give him credit for. The past few years especially, since McAfee joined him, it's been nice to see Cole regain the same sort of enthusiasm he had back with Tazz on Smackdown. Between like '08 and '12, he might've been the worst commentator in pro wrestling. But never forget that Michael Cole was so good at getting heat that people would turn off Raw over him being such a heel. Whatever you think about him, I urge you to seek out and watch Cole and McAfee's live reaction to Liv Morgan's cash-in. Pure happiness.
