Mayu iwatanis has had a legendary 735 day reign with the iwgp women's championship, 2× world of stardom championship reigns , 2× wonder of stardom championships , ghc women's championship , 2x goddesses of stardom championships amoungst many more belts . Mayu iwatani also is the first wrestler that comes to mind to me when I think of major babyfaces in wrestling. It's hard to not route for mayu iwatani, she puts her whole heart into the ring. Wrestling made her grow as a person from a very rough time in her childhood that made her experience a rough period of social isolation to becoming one of the greatest wrestlers ever . Alas she has a unfortunate history of injury and I hope that she has many more healthy years in the ring. Marigold is at a hard period of it's life span rn but perhaps mayu iwatani winning the marigold world championship will be what pushes the company to new heights. Mayu iwatani has already carried stardom on her back for many years and hopefully she will push marigold to greatness ."

[10.0] "I'm convinced I could show a Mayu match to any decent person and they would say, at least, two things: 1) She's really great at wrestling and 2) She's really loveable. That kind of instant impact just shows what a talent she is and the strength of the character she has created. She could have been a star in any era of joshi puroresu, has absolutely no weaknesses and even continues to add new notches to her belt (such as her being super heelish in 2020). Also, she's never really failed to deliver when the spotlight is on her and has carried Stardom on her back multiple times. Finally, she just has this insane quality that when her opponents get in the ring with her they suddenly perform at their absolute best. It is that simple and this is more than carrying people; it's like her greatness somehow manages to imbue her opponent with greatness too for just one occasion. Long may she continue because the joshi puroresu scene will have a big hole in it when she retires."

"Mayu Iwatani is frustrating to evaluate because she makes extremely difficult things look like accidents that somehow landed correctly. That sounds like criticism. It is mostly admiration. Her movement has a looseness that separates her from wrestlers who appear to be carefully demonstrating every step. She can seem half a second away from losing control, then turn that uncertainty into the precise opening the match required. I dislike when admirers use this quality as an excuse for every awkward transition. Not all disorder is secretly genius. Occasionally, a sequence simply looks uncertain. Yet the larger emotional effect is difficult to deny. Mayu appears vulnerable without surrendering credibility, and resilient without becoming mechanically invincible. The audience can believe she is in genuine danger because she never protects herself with a permanent aura of control. Her comebacks feel discovered rather than scheduled. That unpredictability is the appeal. She does not present perfection. She presents survival with enough grace that people mistake the bruises for wings."

However, she's but a shadow of herself now and has plenty shown the good old saying of "some wrestlers are just really stupid I don't know what to tell you", because not only she's performed while injured and aggravated said injuries, but also shown she's willing to defend even the worst type of people just because she considers them 'friends', and is willing to blame their victims instead. The authenticity is the true strength of her work, not simply in her character but in her in-ring performance. The selling has to be seen to be believed. What fans call "Zombie Mode" is wrestling storytelling at its purest. She absorbs punishment that looks like it's ending her career, appears barely conscious, and then somehow finds the will to continue. Joshi fans will find Mayu appealing, not simply because she has all the hallmarks of great Japanese women's wrestling, but for her ability to create moments that stick with you. [10.0] "Easily one of my favorite wrestlers ever. She is a platonic ideal of a wrestler for my taste: fast, hard-hitting, near-picture perfect in all her moves and can takes hellish bumps. From the beginning of my starting to watch Stardom in 2021 through to when she finished up this year, there wasn't another wrestler that I knew was so reliably going to do their part to give as much as they could to make a match fun, funny, exciting or thrilling. Probably has the best, most reliably amazing superkick in the world, a gorgeous moonsault, a wonderful array of snapping kicks to take the air out of people or decapitate them. She is so quick, is typically in the perfect position for moves, and will make any wrestler she is in the ring with look tremendous. Even her natural personality of being an airhead that snaps into serious focus for important matches, not as cartoonish (not a criticism) as Kurt Angle but on the same wavelength, that usually leads to fun interactions pre and post match (headbutting the title she's retained, kicking the victory trophy after a successful defense against Syuri, nearly tripping heading into the ring, accidentally throwing her "baseball" out of the ring before her name announcement). Watching her is a joy, I do wish she stayed in Stardom for the higher general caliber of wrestlers to compete against but I'm happy that in Marigold she's still maintaining her own high standard and elevating the wrestlers around her."

The former was a prodigy from the outset, working so crisply and innovatively that he was winning praise from legends like Nick Bockwinkel while still in his rookie phase and only getting better as his career wore on. Iwatani's story is the opposite: we met her as a gangly, awkward rookie, frail-looking even by the standards of modern joshi. Even as she showed more and more heart in her early years she also put forward a maybe-real, maybe-kayfabe sense of insecurity still present when she began to step up to the top of the card in 2016 and 2017.All the while, she got better and better. Now, she's one of the best in the world, unmatched in the ways a wrestler can say everything in the ring solely through expressions and intensity. She makes every match feel important, and always puts across the sense that all but the greenest rookie opponents are threats in the way she wields her (by now considerable and varied) offense with urgency and grit. Not since Kenta Kobashi has their been a more complete underdog-to-ace arc in wrestling, and her open desire to pay it forward by leaving a promotion she could have ruled with an iron fist until retirement to ensure the wider joshi scene is being properly trained for success is proof of how much she is willing to give the business that gave her life direction."

I also don't think she has much charisma, even so she is a Joshi legend and that's why I respect her."

I think there might be a dilemma with her whether to stay in Japan or to branch out to the United States like her contemporaries like Io Shirai, Asuka (Kana), Kairi, and recently Giulia have done. Her success can match the first 3 or it can be like Sareee aka Sarray where the WWE wasted a very good wrestler. Having a long reign as IWGP Women's Champion is probably enticing but the title has nowhere near the level of credibility that the AJW's WWWA World Women's Championship had in the 80's and 90's. The competition is nowhere near that level at this time. While Manami Toyota is arguably the greatest women's wrestler ever, the only thing that kept her from being absolutely the greatest women's wrestler was going to the United States and competing (although fair enough to say the competition in the United States was not good in the 80's and 90's). I think she should give it a chance but her success will be measured by her ability to connect with the American audience like Io, Asuka, Kairi, and even Giulia have."
