[7.0] "Example of the southern style of wrestling at the time. Hard hitting technician who had several good matches. He was solid on the mic and could connect with the fans."
[6.0] "He was never that good at cutting promos but they weren't terrible and if needed, got the message across. Sometimes a wrestler is referred to as ahead of their time or in the wrong time. Ron Garvin was right where he needed to be. He was no nonsense, tough, and had decent enough physical matches."
[5.0] "Kind of bland character wise but fun if you are looking for a "chop fest". He looked way better in the NWA or southern territories. Totally out of place character and image wise in the late 80's/early 90's WWF but he did have some good matches with Greg Valentine."
[10.0] "Got to give Ronnie whole lotta credit. He took his tough and classic territory developed personality into the new world of charisma among the Dusty Rhodes, RnR Express and Ric Flairs of the globe and made it as World Champ. Many probably don't agree with him winning the belt, but I'll say the same with Rick Steiner; it was great for his time, especially someone defeating Flair."
[5.0] "Right off the bat let us all admit his world title reign absolutely dragged Crockett's company WAY down. While it's certainly fun to watch him stretch and potato enhancement talent & jobbers alike - such a trait will only get you so far. His "brother" tandem with Jimmy Garvin was far too unbelievable - neither made a secret that one was Southern and the other - CANADIAN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. This fact kinda superseded their work together-never mind the fact that they also did not gel. Solid ring work for the era but only exciting when facing far lessor talent, not an enviable position. His WWF run was - odd and seemed to be a dig at Crockett more than anything. The Miss Atlanta Lively character however is a guilty pleasure, criminally under utilized and he should have been THAT gimmick in the 'F - had he ran with Miss Atlanta Lively we might be looking at a higher score."
[7.0] "A very good, and actually underrated worker in my opinion. Love his stiff, hard hitting technical style. Not a guy I would put as the world champion, especially in major promotion though. *cough* Jim Crockett *cough*"
[7.0] "Ron Garvin was your classic hard-nosed, no-nonsense babyface, whose physical style made it easy for fans to get behind him; they knew that when Garvin fired back, the heel was getting the snot beaten out of them."
[8.0] "Ronnie Garvin was a very good wrestler and was perhaps Ric Flair's greatest opponent. Unfortunately he will always be remembered by fans as being an undeserving NWA World Champion. To be fair though, the fans were quite upset that the heir apparent in Magnum TA suffered a career ending injury and Garvin was promoted to the top spot. Once given the title, the booker (Dusty Rhodes) did very little to solidify Garvin as a legitimate champ giving him only 1 televised title defense (against Tully Blanchard) and a few house show defenses against Flair in 3 months. What can't be denied though was Garvin's work ethic. Chops that look like Wahoo's, stiff exchanges and a fiery tenacity. Garvin is really underrated. I suggest anyone who hand-waves his brief world title reign to check out his work in the NWA in the mid to late 80's."
