McAfee actively ruined several matches and entrances because he couldn't keep his mouth shut. He adds nothing important, interesting, funny, or entertaining to commentary. It's the thing with this guy in college football too. A lot of those fans who aren't into wrestling also can't stand him. I was never impressed with him in the ring either. He was fine for a non wrestler but a segment of fans were acting like the second coming of Ricky Steamboat was upon us. McAfee wasn't as good as Stephen Amell. Pat McAfee doesn't respect the wrestling business or college football. He respects being a 40 something frat bro who stands during his shows for...reasons...and wears tank tops."
[0.0] "I actually thought he was really good when he first started as a commentator, and he was a decent performer. But over the last couple of years he's become so unwatchable. He tries to make everything about himself on commentary and says just some of the most cringeworthy things I've ever seen. His commentary during elimination chamber 2025 was beyond unwatchable, and if he wants to get better at it, I'd recommend him doing NXT commentary. His performance skills have regressed as well. He had some good performances in NXT, I'm not seeing most of that on the main roster at all. I can't believe they demoted Corey Graves to NXT for him."

Firstly, I try to not rate wrestlers on out of character actions or opinions but I feel due to how he's presented he's exempt from this. Pat McAfee and anyone related to the barstool side of the internet is a cancerous grifter. This guy has absolutely zero redeeming qualities as a commentator outside of the fact that he plays a dipshit babyface. Extremely grating voice as well, veers towards PG era Lawler with how noticeable and obnoxious he is. Awful annoying commentator who hopefully fucks off for good eventually."

Turned WWE into a gimmicky snoozefest with his asinine, annoying sports commentary and constant interruptions of promos. He also essentially took away whatever small modicum of respect that I'd gained for Michael Cole too."

Pat is also a pretty good wrestler when called upon, he checks all the boxes, great talker? Check. Charisma? Check? Wresting ability? Check, so yeah I like him, I know that might be sacrilegious to say according to a lot of the internet marks but I enjoy his stuff"

I will give him props for his recent promo on Gunther on Raw, which I'm sure will lead to an absolute barnstormer(! ) at Backlash, however, how can I put this, the dude is such a screaming mark as an analyst that he ruins a LOT of great moments for me. The reaction to John Cena's heel turn on commentary was completely overcooked thanks to his inane shouting and marking out. His repeated knack of trying to get himself over any way he can is incredibly tiring. I'm also not an NFL guy, so a lot of the hype that he has completely goes over my head. Sorry Pat, time to go."

Still, his outrageous enthusiasm and continuous yelling seem more like a diversion than a benefit for the broadcast. He seems to be striving too hard to be entertaining, but instead, it comes across as forced and grating. His lack of thorough knowledge of the product, let alone wrestling as a whole, irritates me most. Although enthusiasm is fantastic, it cannot substitute real sports knowledge. I love it when Cole and Wade have to side-step him, as he provides no value. Replacing Corey Graves with McAfee was an absolute joke. He will go down as one of the worst commentators in WWE history."

Unfunny and obnoxious, the worst thing on WWE programming right now, which is already a high bar considering the amount of shit its full of right now. He's better in the ring than on commentary but that is such a low bar to clear. I don't know why WWE keeps him when it seems like few people like him on commentary, he doesn't add anything to any segments or matches."

[0.0] "One of the worst commentators in professional wrestling history. Everything he does is part of a plainly transparent plan to get himself over with what I assume to be his target audience: teenagers who speak in fire emojis and little internet sayings. His vocabulary is limited to that of an engagement farmer on social media. He refuses to be quiet, even during serious moments, and it is never to offer anything valuable. His jokes are never funny, and they kill whatever emotion the wrestler is trying to get out of the audience. It is sometimes just for the sake of just making a noise, like a dog bark or duck quack, because we have to be reminded that he is there. Even down to his little signatures, such as getting on the table as a popular wrestler makes their entrance, or doing his pencil tossing and catch thing that would only truly amuse an infant, he's just so frustrating to watch. He killed key moments like the Cena heel turn, and who could forget Pat whining for an entire show about Canadians booing the US national anthem? He is so attached to the WWE product right now, he feels inescapable. Why is he getting storylines? The less said about those matches, the better. The frat bro persona rubs against my personal taste, but there is a lot in wrestling that is just not for me. What makes Pat a unique case is that he will shout, scream, and "YEET" his way into your consciousness whether you like it or not. I just won't listen to any more of his commentary."

Then after that Gunther match he is the only one who really benefited from it, and that just makes me angry. Terrible commentator, ok wrestler but just shouldn't get some of the opportunities he has. I am going to just write about nothing so I can get the character limit reached because I have nothing else to say about this man. He also doesn't know the name to a lot of moves. If he weren't already famous WWE would have never got him as a commentator. As a wrestler he's ok but really overrated in my opinion and only has decent matches because of who he's in the ring with."

[9.0] "Pat McAfee is everything celebrity crossovers usually aren't. He's authentic, he respects the craft, and he brings an energy to wrestling that's been missing for years. From day one, McAfee showed that he wasn't there for a paycheck or a cameo. He was there because he loved it. His debut match against Adam Cole shocked a lot of people. It wasn't just good for a non-wrestler. It was good, period. He understood the timing, the storytelling, the heat. He knew how to work the crowd, and more importantly, he knew when to shut up and sell. On commentary, McAfee brought back something WWE had lost -- genuine, unpredictable enthusiasm. His banter with Michael Cole injected life into a stale announce team and made SmackDown broadcasts fun again. He's the rare commentator who feels like he's experiencing the show alongside the fans rather than reading off a script. Pat's charisma is undeniable. Whether on commentary, cutting promos, or in the ring, he brings a vibe that feels real. He doesn't try to sound like a wrestler or act like a tough guy. He's himself, and that's why fans connect with him. He brings humor, energy, and heart, and he makes everything feel bigger just by being there. When he steps in the ring, he delivers. His matches at WrestleMania and NXT have shown that he can hang, and his physicality is better than guys with years more experience, shown in his recent match with Gunther."

It's insane to me how bad he is as a commentator, he makes Michael Cole look like Gordon Solie. So many glaring issues with him, always talking over wrestlers, never knowing when to stop talking, constantly yelling for no reason, his stupid dancing during Jey Uso's entrance ontop of the commentary desk, never taking anything seriously, talks over wrestlers cutting promos, making unfunny jokes, bringing an unbearable frat boy vibe that has become more and more annoying as time progresses, clearly knows nothing going on when he's calling the show, I could probably name more, but I'll stop there. All I can say is, if this is how Pat McAfee is like during the NFL when he broadcasts, then I can safely say I'm glad I don't watch football, and I seriously don't understand the love for this man."

He tries to make every match or event about himself, and I get trying to play the guy who buys into all the excitement and hoorah of gimmicks and songs, but the amount of times this dude talks over a PPV entrance alone just to steal the spotlight is astounding. Not only this, but even at certain events or interactions with wrestlers/legends you get the sense he doesn't even know when he's going too far. Like you can see everyone's body language basically saying "shut up dude" and he has no clue. Perfect example of my disdain for this guy, was when Gunther choked him out it was the funnest part of the show. Can't stand this guy."

" or any loud or animal noise. Arrogant like at the Toronto Elimination Chamber showing a sense of entitlement not just once or twice but throughout the entire show. Now they dedicate segments to him that could be spent doing anything else, I would rather them try to sell me more terrible AI generated Cody Rhodes shirts, will buying one make him go away? I don't see anyone outside of America finding him funny or endearing, not to mention those who are. The shows are better without him, he will likely leave again whenever the American Football seasons start again so thank goodness."

A lot of it feels forced and he just starts talking about random stuff during the matches. He lets his personal feelings & self-importance get in the way of a lot of stuff (mainly referring to Chamber and the RAW after Chamber.) I mean, his little beef with Dom is funny but that's about it. Some of his jabs at wrestlers are funny but then he tries too hard and then it's just cringey. He always tries to put himself over instead of the wrestlers in the ring, and he actively cheerleads for Jey Uso or some of the other faces when they are wrestling or doing promos. His first run as commentator was good too so I don't know what happened. WWE could easily promote Vic Joseph and he can go back to doing his show or College GameDay which is obviously much more important to him. He also weaseled his and his friends way into WWE 2k24 in one of the worst DLC packs of all time. Even Booker T, who in his own right is very annoying at times, is a much better commentator than he is. Overall the product would be much better if Pat McAfee wasn't apart of it."

McAfee is someone with no introspection just hears thing and says thing no matter how uninformed the person may be (Rogan, Rodgers, etc.). Perfectly emblematic of the American electorate. He's an absolute pant load that struck lightning on his first introduction to the wrestling world. His style is overly loud, obnoxious, and completely distracting from the actual matches. Instead of enhancing the action, he makes everything about himself with constant yelling, forced enthusiasm, and unfunny jokes. His delivery feels more like an over-the-top podcast performance rather than someone providing insightful or engaging commentary. Beyond that, his persona just doesn't click for me. He tries too hard to be the center of attention rather than letting the talent shine. Wrestling commentary is supposed to complement the in-ring storytelling, but McAfee constantly derails the moment with his antics. Overall, I find his work unbearable to listen to, and I genuinely believe WWE would benefit from a more professional and polished voice in his role."

He barely provides real insight, often shouting nonsense instead of calling the match properly. Wrestling commentary should add to the story, not be a distraction, and McAfee is nothing but a distraction. His jokes rarely land, and his attempts at humor feel more obnoxious than entertaining. Football, or whatever sport he cares about, season can't start soon enough. I have been watching wrestling for around 15-20 years with lots of historical watching and I have yet to see a commentator trying to make the other commentators as well as the fans mad at him more than he does. He brings a goofiness and reliability to the product that was nigh nonexistent in the company's previous regime. His basis of athleticism was being a punter in the NFL, and his commentating skills come from his natural charisma, hosting his own show and honestly saving ESPN College Game Day from fading into obscurity. People's main complaints about him are he either talks too much or talks out of turn. There are differing opinions on whether this is a bad trait of his or not, and I'm leaning towards good because the WWE can profit off of his banter with Michael Cole and any other remark he makes, being great for business. Pat McAfee being on commentary brings an excitement and a feeling that most commentators can't harness."

" He comes off as that student in a group project that is completely unprepared and has contributed nothing to the group's success, yet is the loudest to try and mask his awkwardness. I used to watch Raw every week but it's just becoming harder to do while listening to this fool. I considered giving him 3 points but after hearing him call Kairi Sane "Iyo Sky" at WrestleMania, I feel comfortable scoring him as a 2."

I don't mind when the booth has fun and jokes around, but with McAfee it's just too much and comes off as insulting to the audience. Wish he would stop talking about "6 star matches" on WWE TV, it's just not his lane and is quite obnoxious."

I can't imagine how unfulfilling that must be. I'm (mostly) joking of course, to each their own, but I always have loved him as a commentator. His chemistry with Michael Cole is awesome, and I think they bring out the best in eachother. And on top of that, a half decent wrestler too! Hope to see him in the ring again sometime in the future. He's no Logan Paul, but he can go, no doubt about that."

The entire discourse over "googling" wrestlers who make surprise appearances doesn't make sense at first blush when you consider that, typically, a promotion's play-by-play announcer (in WWE's case, Michael Cole) will quickly give you a run-down, but then it makes more sense when you consider that typically, WWE's color commentators (e.g. Graves, Booker, JBL) have been so bad you want to mute the TV come 8pm, and Pat really is no exception."

He puts over absolutely everything to such a degree that it's corny and exhausting. I don't doubt he's enjoying himself and plays to that but at this point it's just obnoxious the way he'll get on the table to dance to certain themes, demand Michael Cole acknowledges Roman Reigns, etc. Absolute definition of a jock commentator."

In many moments he takes away the tension from the segment with unnecessary coments or jokes. And, sure, this might just be my personal opinion, but he's painfully unfunny. I kinda get the hype for him, since I have to admit he's really charismatic, but he's just not good enough to be every week on the show. Honestly, he's just like Jerry Lawler without the misogyny to me."

He has the commentary style to match cameras changing every second. If you told me he was on an attempt to solely get conspiracy theorists on board with WWE, I would believe you given his espn show. WWE's constant temps to legitimize itself with the larger world comes at the expense of their tv production. Keep him for special events but keep that few and far between."
